My Blue dog is gone

This has been a horrible weekend for Rick and I, we had to have our Blue put to rest Fri. morning  Blue was not a sheepie, he was a mixed breed. He had the the most beautiful red coat, and piercing blue eyes, absolutely stunning. He was 14. He had been going downhill for the past couple months, his breathing was labored, and Fri. morning started coughing up blood. I had just played ball with him and the sheepies a few days before with him and the sheepies, and he could still jump, and was the only one who could catch it, when we were done his breathing was much more labored, and had a little trouble going up the stairs.I told Rick when he got home that we have to keep a close eye on him everyday . We also decided that when the time came, one of us would say to the other, he no longer can catch the ball, and it would be time. I just did not think it would come this quick  My heart is broke, he was one of them "once in a lifetime dogs". He was probably one of the smartest dogs I have ever seen and sooooo loving. I called Rick at work Fri. morning and told him Blue can no longer catch the ball, he came right home, we gave him another big bowl of food, I brushed him out pretty, and gave him a bowl of ice cream, he so dearly loved his ice cream. We then took him to the vets and went into the room and sat on the floor and kissed him and hugged him and told him how special he was, and how much we loved him for all the joy he brought to us and our children. We told him to wait for us when it was our time and to have the ball ready. He died in our arms. I am just devastated, and I hurt so bad will I ever stop crying? My 3 sheepies are comforting and I love them to bits, they are confused also, they keep looking for their buddy Blue.

I am so sorry for your loss.
These guys are just so precious.
I am sure Blue is waiting at the bridge for you and playing ball as he used to!
Please find comfort in knowing he is watching over you and your family!
Until you meet again, he will still be with you in spirit.
I am so sorry.
Take care
Kathy
I am so sorry to hear of your precious Blue's crossing the bridge. Your post touched my heart ---

Here on the forum, you can find comfort and compassion...we ALL have been where you are so we have all felt what you are feeling now and in the weeks to come.

I can only say that this final act as a loving "mom" is one of the hardest decisions we have make but it is also the most unselfish.

How heartbreaking it is to say goodbye---but how much more heartbreaking to know that he is in pain and the quality of his life is so diminished that he cannot do the things he loved doing all his life

....it is heartbreaking to see the body go down...but the spirit, the twinkle in his eyes is still there.

My heart is breaking for you and for me...remembering how I had to make that dicision with my dog of my life, Millie 5 years ago...I still miss her, but I have so many wonderful memories..I know she will, like Blue be waiting at the Bridge when we cross...I also know that Millie and Blue are probably running, jumping and chasing squirrels right now and looking down on both of us saying....Thankyou....

Take care...
I am so sorry for your loss.

He obviously so loved playing ball with you and Rick, and I'm sure he was glad he played. You gave Blue a great treat of food and Ice Cream, and then all your love to ease his suffering. Thank you for being so strong for him.

Many of us understand exactly how you and Rick are feeling right now, and we're right here next to you to give you a little strength if you need it.
I am very sorry for your loss
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. :(
Lori so sad for your loss, sending a huge hug for you and Rick and a special Blessing for blue. Always hard when our fur babies have to leave us, we will be thinking of you all at this sad time. :(
I am so so sorry for your precious loss. I am in floods of tears for you and your husband. At least your beautiful baby did not suffer, and you were with him right to the end. Often I have left my dogs a few days more for selfish reasons, but yours was an act of totally unselfish love. Bless you.....and hugs to your sheepies I bet they miss their buddy...
RIP Blue, keep catching the ball sweetie....
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your beautiful boy Blue. I am glad you where able to be with him in his last moments. I know that was very hard, but you will never regret it. I know we all want "just one more day". but his spirit will be with you. Hugs to you and your hubby while you go through this journey of grief.

Tears,
Lori,
Please accept my sympathy to you and Rick. We've been there. They give us so much love and companionship. We don't want to see them suffer. But when we let go it is so painful. Blue will allways be enthroned in your hearts.
God bless.
George
So sorry guys!
Lori and Rick, I'm sorry for your loss of Blue. You will stop crying, then you will smile at the happy years you had together. I hope your heart stop hurting soon.
Lori, I am so sorry for your pain and your loss. I am sure it is devastating. Every time I hear that somoen has lost a beloved animal a part of me wonders WHY we put ourselves through this KNOWING they all have a limited life span (limited to shorter than our own). But then I look at my own boys and know that the joy they give far out weighs the pain at the end. Hand on to those joyful moments.
I'm so sorry that you lost Blue. I know it's one of the hardest decisions that you'll ever have to make but, in time, you'll know it was the right one and feel better about it. You'll always miss him, but you'll know that you did what was best for him and that he's in a better place now.
I am so sorry for your loss of your precious Blue. You gave him a great life and he loved you both unconditionally. Your love for him was just as great when you helped him over the bridge. He will live in your memories forever and soon smiles will replace the tears.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry for your loss, Lori. It's such a big empty space they leave in our hearts.

So sorry for your loss! :(
i am so sad for you.
would love to see photos of Blue when you are ready
Lorie and Rick, I can feel from your post just how much you loved Blue and how his passing has left a very empty spot within you. He loved you with all his being and you returned the gift. How wonderful was that!!

Blue lives on in your memories and he will come to you many times in the future. Right now his visit are emotional, but in time they will bring back memories but not tears.

I'm sure you sheepies are feeling the pack loss. They knew he was old and ailing, but they too will mourn in their own way.

Blue, you were a fine dog, you've earned your rest.
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss!
