We have an OES who is about 4 1/2 years old. Last Saturday she was fine. She got up on Sunday and started bumping into things. We took her to the vet on Monday who was not able to find out what could be happening. We took her to a university vet hospital opthamalogist today and they have discovered that she has glaucoma in both eyes. It appears to be an acute onset of primary glaucoma. We were wondering if anyone out there has experienced anything like this.

We have called the breeders and they state no history of glaucoma in the bloodline and have not heard of such a case in 14 years of breeding.
Sorry to hear about your OES here is a link to read that has information for you on Glaucoma in dogs.

Hi,

I experienced going through this several years ago with one of my boys - Panda, and visited an optomologist. I did a search and came up with my original post and perhaps there is something in there that will help you. Just a warning before you read as much of it was guess work on my part as I had not experienced any sight problems with any of my previous dogs. I was incorrect in some of my assumptions.

Then the update and what was discovered and the outcome. I am praying for you boy.

Belly rubs to your furkid and I'm sending postive thoughts your way.

Oh bless I hope you get your sheepie sorted. Keep us posted as to what treatment they can do.

Marianne just read your old thread, and I know what you mean about gut feeling. When Hubby had this pain in his back, (pulled muscle he said) that kept coming back. I tricked him into seeing the gp. and he had a heart irregularity and was in hospital for a few days to sort it out.
When our Katy was first ill on that Tuesday night she looked at me and her eyes sort of rolled, hubby said she is just tired. I insisted on vets next day and the rest is sad history. Probably us women being maternal have more instinctive knowledge than the other sex Laughing

ps sorry to pinch your thread...xx
Hi KTB - I just saw your post - I realized there was an update that followed and was searching for it while you posted.

Gracie's mom - I just quickly glanced at the first post last night, but there isn't much there, the second one may be a bit more helpful. Mainly it just contains my own dilemna whether to have surgery or not as the aftercare is rather extensive. Some dogs are not good candidates to handle it, such as my rescue Panda.

KTB,I think you're right regarding following our gut instinct as with loved ones sometimes we just "feel" when something is wrong.

Marianne
