So Who Wants to Learn to Groom Harrisburg 2008

I have to be travelling this weekend (herding classes) and probably need to start telling my boss I need to leave early next friday to get to Harrisburg, so...

Do we have any plans for a dinner/get together on the 25th (friday night) in Harrisburg for those attending Maxxm's grooming seminar (this is what I told my husband it is:) )?
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
There's a ton of great restaurants in the area so just pick what type of food you want and we can make it happen.
If you just want to drink there's some good bars too!
I really hope there's another one that we can go to next year!!!
I would like to eat dinner and have a drink or two That's my vote. I do like seafood and steaks , but will go with the majority unless Mandy wants to cook dinner for us :sidestep:

oh my I am just glad she is willing to show me how to make Marley look like a proper sheepie. I think we owe her dinner!!
Yes we do :D
What is wrong with you people? Have you read no other posts where everything I make comes out of boxes and cans?
Maybe I will cook one day and MAKE you eat it! Wait, I don't want a bunch of ill people at my house!

So any suggestions other than seafood or steaks?
I can't say I think of seafood when I think of Harrisburg - what are the local non-chain-like goodies
I think Mandy once told me that Sheetz had good pizza
Sheetz has great Asian Chicken Salads and 3AM nachos.

There are some great non-chain places here. Just depends on what you like:
Italian
Sushi (I owe Deb a sushi day still!)
Mexican (Shellie loves the Mexican place!!)
Indian
We can always just go to Hershey and eat chocolate and drink!
Speaking of Sushi

There's a place near me called "Minado". It's a sushi buffet.

Wonderful.

They have 5 restaurants...

2 in NJ (for Deb)
1 in MA (for me)
1 in PA (for Deb to be bought by Mandy, although it's about 80 miles away, not too far from Philly, so Deb lucks out with #3)
1 in NY (No idea who that one is for, they should just close it)

www.minado.com
I will eat pizza but I DO NOT eat raw fish........
Some of the stuff is cooked!
I think we should go out for yummy Amish cuisine.

This one is the closest... by 43 minutes. There is actually a Chinese buffet near us that has pretty good sushi. Figure that one out.

Sure you can come. I'm working on a "schedule" now so as soon as I've got that worked out, I'll post it.

And go ahead and post the picture, Toby loves to look at himself!
Oh I want to see Toby!!! What kind of schedule?? Will we only do one day each?? Just curious. Guinness had a groomer do him about two weeks ago so he looks good and is in a growing out puppy cut. I think I am learning more but still need HELP!!! If we are doing one specific day each I will need to change reservations. I need 24 hr notice.
No, not that kind of schedule. Just sort of what topics, meals, that sort of thing. It's not set in stone either, it's our weekend and we can do what we want! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to forget anything or leave out something like wine drinking time.

P.S. Anyone wanting to contribute, the answer is wine! I'll have chips and pretzels for snacks and there will be soda and water. Anything else, you'll be on your own!

OH! Cindy, can you bring your clippers? Carl needs to get naked and I think all my blades are dull.
Yes I will!! as long as you show me the fine art of a smooth clip! I did a dog and he looked like he had the mange, I will also bring a hungarian apple cake, a bottle or two from the local vineyard and my wierd stuffed sheepdog that shakes and plays who let the dogs out!! Need anything else? I will be rolling in early friday evening to the hotel. I hope around 2 or three as not to get stuck in traffic. There are perks to being a bum and not working but Bob will have my foster pups  and have to get one off sat to the new owners....
I will do my best to show the smooth clip on a very Tiggerish Carl dog.

If you get in at 2 or 3 you should check into the hotel and then come over and we'll start the cocktail party early!
How many people are we at now? Here's what I have so far:
Me
VerveUp
Shellie
4dognight
Drezzie’s Mom
loried (Rick said you may have to cancel? )
DandAbi + 1
Kerry
JulieL
Shon (With your last move, are you still interested?)
DandeePhoebe/CrazyPhoebe
BGE
Crazy Jeep
CheyennBuford

Let me know if I've missed anyone or if plans have changed and you can't make it.

It's getting pretty close people!
Pic is uploaded just waiting for approval. Toby looked great. Sorry for the quality of pic it was from my phone lol forgot the camera.
I've been absent for a while what with travel and the salon and all. I'm still interested in coming. I may even be able to bring my OES client (I don't have my one of my own).
Hey! You can work on my Guinness!! He is 92 lbs and has room for two to work on him :D
I'm definitely coming on Sunday! Yay! And I'm bringing my client Robin with her sheepie, Bleu. I plan to leave Philly around 7, so we'll be there by 9 ish.

Any schedule you would liek to share? I am trying to decide what time to leave here on Friday and wanted to know what friday night plans might be.
Friday is just cocktails and dinner. I was thinking dinner around 7 or so?
I just bought three nice bottles of wine from local vineyards here (One I would like to try NOW  ) and will bake my cake tomorrow (for snacking) in between transporting dogs and having my fosters seen There is a transport to go to harrisburg for Brightstar GSD rescue this weekend if they can bump a part up I may be bring a dog up with me..........
My plans have done a total 360, my daughter wants to come home from college this weekend and my husband made other plans  I have talked about this for weeks, now everyone else has something for me to do this weekend. I will not be able to make it this weekend
Does anyone coming have a copy of "Notes From the Grooming Table"? If so, would you please bring it so that I may glance at it before I buy it? Thanks, Dee

That is the way things usually go for me too. I am sorry.

Do something for yourself! Tell your daughter to join you or come home next weekend with her laundry. As for hubby.... I'm sure you can figure out a way to work that out. 8)
Does anyone need the address, directions or any other info? PM me if you need something or I can give you my phone number if you need one on one help to get here.
Tomorrow's the big start people!!

I'm pretty sure that we're only picking up DandiAbi at the airport? Did I miss anyone? If I did, you're going to be awfully sad sitting at the airport all weekend!
I will probably be the one, needing one on one getting there. I am so directionally challenged  If only Guinness could read a map!!!

I gave hubby a gps for christmas - which I am using to get there!
Just wanted to thank Mandy and Deb for everything they did to make the weekend a success.

I hope every one had a safe trip home (and Dee I hope Cindy isn't driving you home to GA because you two lost the airport!).

I had a very interesting experience at a rest stop on the way home. I came out of the rest room and heard Marley barking and barking - now she really doesn't do this unless someone is near the car - very near the car. I look over and some old guy is holding his Maltese up to the car window 8O when i got over to the car I was a little crazed (who me?) and sort of yelled at the guy "what do you think you are doing?"

seems he wanted the dog to "see Marley" (lunging and barking at the car windows). and then he asked me what's wrong with her  8O argh by that time Marley was out of the car and I have to say I am not sure if I would have stopped her if she decided to have a little snack (Mandy you did say she needed to put a little weight on) so what happens - she walks right past the little dog like its not there :?

Thank you again - great to meet everyone
Awwww, don't get ticked off at people who treat their animals like kids! ;) Who WOULDN'T wanna see the nice fluffy sheepie?
Mandy, Thank you for having Robin, Amara, Bleu and me. We all learned so much.

Deb, I hope you can forgive my bad habits. I've made Robin swear to do as I say, not as I do. Namely, not to EVER bathe Bleu without completely dematting first.

Kerry, 4dog(I'm terrible with names), Dee, Julie, Sarah, Drezzie's mom and everyone else I'm not remembering right now, thanks so much for welcoming me. I hope I added something to the weekend. I enjoyed meeting all of you.

PS I'd love to come to a show and observe if someone wouldn't mind a hanger-on. (Amara would sit that one out). She says hi, btw, and thanks for the cheesy chips and the chocolate.
I too want to thank Mandy and Deb for helping me change my evil ways!! I really enjoyed myself and learned a lot, much more than I ever have (I am thinking a short clip is best for my boy) The wine and food was great the company was wonderful, the dogs were all magnificent. What more could one ask for.?? (except for the little red lig blinking on the phone when we got back from dinner saying our dogs barked for a half hour  )We even meet a sheepie in the hotel that was at the alpaca show, we did tell them to come into the crazy world of oes.org. Kerry, yes some prople are just plain nuts!! and I want you to know Dee and I went stright to the airport!!!! We could not believe it (I would have liked a road trip to Georgia) and I zipped right home to maryland even stopped for french fries!!!!!
Yes, Cindy and I found the right airport! We didn't even need a "tour" of PA before getting there. I don't know if the dogs had more fun or if we did. I appreciate the entire weekend. Thank you Mandy and Deb and even Anthony for putting up with it all. There would be more informed owners, both show and pet, if others were as kind and as willing to share info as these two gals. :clappurple:

Something exciting did happen at the Atl airport though! Yes, I didn't get lost. A celebrity was two gates down from me. He passed right by me and I recognized those amazing eyes instantly. I don't know actors names though. He was the bad guy in the Batman movie that was a shrink that used a burlap mask to hypnotize people. He wore glasses, has the most amazing eyes (except for my husband's), has jet black hair, and looks like a Polo model. Does anyone know who that was? He was flying like the rest of us commoners.
Cillian Murphy is the name of the actor. The character is Dr. Jonathan "The Scarecrow" Crane. Thank you, Google. ;) The next Batman movie is on the way. To be released in July according to IMDB. That's very cool that you saw him. I'm glad you made it to the airport on time.
Ok, enough talk - where are the pictures??!!!! :D :D :D
Due to previous commitments that couldn't be changed, Dale and I only got to Mandy's for about 90 minutes on Sunday. We only briefly got to meet Cindy, Kerry and Shellie, talked a bit more with Jamie and Robin. I'm sure there were others we missed on either Friday night or Saturday - bummer!

Mandy and Deb - you guys are the best!!

I knew we forgot something :? 8O :?

Actually there are pictures and video but other more talented people will be taking care of that.
Nice to hang out with everyone and meet you new folks. Mandy did a great job teaching & explaining so many things about keeping an OES in coat. CrazyJeep took a bunch of video, so hopefully a little tutorial may surface... :D

Dogs are still pretty crashed from the weekend which is always good. Frank's belly is still suffering for sabotaging Toby, Suzi & Carl's food. I'm hoping it will settle down by our next trip in a few days.

Thanks again Mandy for your hospitality!
It sounds like everyone had such a great time. I'm sorry I missed it. I ended up going to Lancaster on sat and that was it my day had got ahead of me.
Hi Everyone,

I changed my username from Crazyjeep to Zooba07 (zooba is Onyx's nick name and I never really liked the crazyjeep login my hubby created :)) Anyway, I had a great time on saturday, sorry i couldn't stay for dinner but the 4 hour drive back would have been torture if I stayed that late. I learned alot of great techniques and I can't wait for Onyx's coat to grow out so that i can start practicing. Mandy, thank you for your hospitality and your wealth of knowledge. Deb, thanks for the tips on the feet and the stripping tool.

Mandy, when you have time can you post a list of the products you recommended and their use, as well as the names of the brushes and the websites you recommend for purchasing supplies? Just a quick bulleted summary of the tools would be nice for quick reference for us non-professionals when we go to purchase online.

I reviewed the video footage I took and I think there is some good stuff to work with - took almost an hour of video. I will start editing soon (i'm just going to have my husband teach me to do it, because if I let him edit, i'm sure he'd leave out all the important stuff) Keeping that in mind, It might not get done for a week or so. I promise I'll start working on it soon, probably this Sunday. We have family coming in to town this Saturday for the NASCAR race in Richmond, so i'll be busy preparing for that the rest of this week. But i'll get to it soon, and my plan is to put it into separate short video clips that get to the point so we don't spend forever viewing all the in-between stuff.

I might need Ron's help with figuring out how to load video clips...maybe i'll just put them on u-tube and post the links, or something like that :)

Thanks again and I look forward to the next sheepdog event :)

Sarah

You got it. I'm checking with the place we do agility training, they run a pet supply store as well. She may be able to get a bulk discount for us.

Yeah, let's not post the in-between stuff!!!
Oh :( I really wanted the in between stuff

Mandy I had Marley to the vet today about her allergies. we did a thyroid panel as well - but she has lost 8 pounds in two weeks (and she was down about 4 pounds at that visit). I know she was nervous and off her food this weekend but shoot that's a lot of weight. Any idea what I can look for? the vet seemed perplexed as well.
ya know----i'm so stink'n ticked off!!!!!!!!!!!!
i wanted to go to this!!!!
how did i miss it?????

crap crap crap!
i feel like doing the Herman Munster thing! (stumping until he fell through the floor--in case you don't already know)
