Shaving...is there an easy way?

What is the easiest way to shave them down? I feel like i can hardly get Winston to sit still long enough to brush him, though he is getting better. Should i just take like a whole day and do a little at a time? I don't want him be afraid of it, but i want to do a good job as well. How short should i go?

I have always found they are more tolerant of shaving than brushing. that said a few times I have had shaved dogs with shaggy heads.
I just shaved a girl down on Friday night who had NEVER been brushed and she's nine months old. Believe it or not, she stood very patiently while I shaved her and trust me, her coat was a pelt. It was completely felted all the way down to her skin. We took a few short breaks, but all in all it only took us about two hours to do it. I think they'd rather get it over with than keep having to go back. :?
