A little humor at a time of loss

So Mr. J's grandmother passed this morning. It was nothing surprising as she took a sudden turn for the worse the past few weeks. Went from being completely coherent and remembering every detail of her life and others to... running downstairs naked not knowing what was going on or who anyone was.

Anyway, so Mr. J's father went to see her and she surprisingly knew who he was. It's like she waited for him... She said: Son, I just want one thing: A glass of wine

Then we got a phone call she passed away. It was like she went out in good ol' Mimi fashion. She drank a beer or two every day of her life, so hearing she asked for wine ....and then left brought a chuckle to us.

It was like she was drinking her last glass before getting ready to go through those pearly gates or something. "I'm ready. Here I come Lord..." 8)

So very sorry for your loss, but what a wonderful way to go! She sounds like a special lady.
Joah,

I'm sorry for your loss.

Please pass along my condolences to Mr. J.
Hi Jo,

Our sympathy to you and Mr J and your family
at this time. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

It was nice Mr J's father had some time with her,
it is so difficult when things change so quickly.
She sounds like a GRAND OLD GAL and I hope that you and your family are able to take great joy in the life she lived while mourning her loss.
I am so sorry for your/Mr J's loss at the passing of his grandma.....
Sounds like she was a spunky lady. You have my deepest sympathies.
I agree, a grand way to remember one's grandmother! Each time you tip a glass now you'll think of her.....drink to her memory!
So sorry to hear about the passing of Mr.J's grandmother but she did leave you a wonderful memory of her.
A grand Lady and a grand way to go. Pass on my condolences to Mr.J and all the family. CHEERS What a special Grandma she was. :D
Sorry to hear about your loss. Her spirit will live on as you each recall special memories you shared. May God bless you and your family during this time of sorrow.
Hi,

I'm sorry about the loss of Mr J's grandma and of course what her loss means to all of you.

Thanks for sharing that story as that too gave me a chuckle. She sounded like a great lady with a sense of humor and her last memories of her all left you smiling.

Marianne
Dear Jo,

I'm so sorry for Mr J's loss. But I don't think I'm sorry for Grandma. I suspect, she went out just as she had hoped!

Please accept my condolences....
I am sorry to hear of Mr J's grandma passing. It does sound like she went according to her plan. May we all be so lucky!
J--I'm so sorry for your loss! That's so funny that after all those years of beer she wanted wine!

That's what I said.

Mr. J is being quiet, so I've just given him space and left him alone since yesterday. He steam cleaned the carpets last night (and this guy NEVER cleans ...........unless you count putting a candy wrapper in the trash or a cup in the sink once in a blue moon ;) )

Anyway, if they're not having a funeral b/c no one can really go (we all have newborns and live far away), do I send flowers or something??
Flowers are always nice, but I prefer to make a donation to a charity or cause that she supported, in her memory. Was there one she was fond of?
Please tell Mr J I'm so sorry for the loss of his grandmother

Following the funeral of my husbands younger brother, they had a dove release ceremony at the cemetary.

Perhaps the family would consider having seperate dove release ceremonies in each of your home town parks, on the same day and releasing them at the same time.

This ceremony was beautiful. They passed out cards that had a beautiful poem written on it, along with a dove pin. I don't have the poem handy right now, but it was something on the line of:

As we are watching the dove fly away, out of sight, "Saying, Farewell." (Look, there she goes.) While others are watching as it arrives home, saying "Here she comes! Welcome!"

They also give you the opportunity to release the dove yourself, or they will do it for you. They also played a song, but I don't remember what it was.
