Covering her food/water bowls.

When I put Cassie in the crate during the night, or when I am leaving, I will fill her water bowl and put it in the front corner of her crate. I have noticed that she will push her blanket up into the bowl, and I noticed her doing it to her food bowl, but not with her blanket, but the air, there was nothing she was putting over it. It is weird to see her do it, she does this long sweeping motion with her head and nose, and rubs it on the carpet, I'm afraid she may get rugburn on her nose she does it so hard. One of my friends said she recently went to PetSmart, she went to look at the dogs, and one of the smaller dogs was doing the same thing. Have any of your dogs done this? Any insight would be appreciated!

Why does she do that? :?:
Does she think someone is going to take it from her, so she hides it?

Hi,

One of my dogs does the rubbing on objects with his nose as well. However, it's due to allergies and the side of his muzzle is where it's affected. Not sure if this is exactly what Cassie has but worth looking into. My ole guy only does this certain times of the year and giving him benadryl helps.

Cassie also sounds as if she's going through the "burying" her food ritual although no dirt available for her to do so. You may want to avoid placing food and water in her crate as many dogs will avoid elimination in their "den" and she'd be okay without if you are placing her in there for rest periods. It depends on the length of time she's in there, but food and water may be viewed as to be avoided by her as she will then feel the need to eliminate perhaps?

Cheers!
Marianne
Its weird, because she only does it to her food, and water bowls!
I hope she does not have allergies! We'll have to get that checked out.
Dogs of old had to bury food so the other animals would not come along and eat it. Its inborn. My Husky used to do this with bones. He would dig an imaginary hole, place the bone carefully in, tap it to make sure it was in the right way, use his nose to push the dirt back in and chin tap again to make sure it was flat and walk away all satisfied that no other critters would get his bone. I would ROTF when he did this. Its a way of saving food for when times are scarce or just not ready to eat it right then.
None of my dogs have ever done something like that.
Yeah I just recently have obtained my baby about two months ago. And she just started that habit. And I'm home I can't let her out because she's in heat, so I put her water in the corner of her cage and I set there and watch her show the blanket up over her water. So I would also like to know what that is because it's not food and I thought it maybe the water was bad but it's filtered water I drink it. So would be really nice to know as to why she wants to do it to her water but not her food?
Hey there sorry about that I'm lazy and that would have been a lot of typing so I do my voice dictation and it messed up so I hope you understand what I was saying on there. Yeah just kind of weird that she's covering up her water and not her food.
