Puppy has an upset stomach and eats stones! Advice needed.

Hi,
I need some advice on my puppy Chester has a bad habit of eating stones like they are food she doesn't think twice, I've tried my hardest keeping her away and they do come out one way or another but I've heard it's because she could be missing something in here diet? If so I'd like to find out what??

Also I can't find the right food to stop her from getting diarhea, I have to keep putting her on turkey mince and rice till her stomach is better. I've had her on winalot puppy tin food mixed with pedigree puppy dry. I've also tried baker's puppy dried food but it give's her too much energy any advice on this as well??

Hello. Our 10 month old gets stones as well. I take treats out the garden with me (well just her kibble actually) and if she picks up a stone I say "swap" she spits the stone out and I give her a kibble....you could try that. you have to go out with them all the time though.

As for the food not sure where you are from Uk or USA but I wouldnt feed a new puppy on chum, bakers, or anything like that. It upsets their tums and makes them hyper. We feed ours on James Wellbeloved puppy, turkey and rice, or nutro do a good one as well. If you feed her a really good food and nothing else she shouldnt get upset tum...
Be very careful... stones can cause intestinal obstruction which can be deadly. The behavior is called pica-

Don't leave her outdoors unsupervised... the "swap" command is good. Teaching her to "leave it" would be good too... before she can even pick the stones up... then distract her with something safe to play with.

We feed Eagle Pack Holistic Select and have had no tummy troubles. Not sure where you're located so I don't know if this is an option.
Thank's for the tips, I have fenced off the main area where the stones are kept, as well as teaching her to leave which help's with treats.

Also the stomach problem I put her on pedigree puppy dry food and her stomach seem's to be fine so far I'm still keeping my eye on her, I think it also helps because she hasn't swollowed any stone's since she can't get to them.
Thank's again for the tips.
