An OES Lover from childhood!

I just wanted to say hello to everyone! I had an OES named Sybil as a child, and to this day there is no other dog for me! I have started my search a few weeks ago for a OES, and I am currently working with the Southeast rescue, and they are great!

I wanted to say that since I have started this process, I am extremely impressed with the rescues, and the way everyone has been so nice and patient with me (answering all of my crazy questions)!

No Sheepdog yet, but I am patiently waiting!

You guys are all wonderful!

Welcome to the community!

I am glad to see you've been patient; as you are finding out rescue people are the greatest and will do everything they can to match up the right owner with the right human! ;)

Good luck!
Welcome! I also grew up with an OES. Mine was Daisy and she was a year older than me.
She passed away when I was 11 and from the time she passed away I started begging my parents to get another. My parents ended up getting a pound puppy and he lived until a four years ago.

So said I would get one when I grew up. Sadly, it took 20 yrs for me to get my Sheepie. But it was well worth the wait. I now have 2, a male and female and both were rescues.
I'm making up for lost time.
I don't think I will ever be without a Sheepie again. Even my husband is crazy about the dogs.
Welcome!!!! So glad you are going to be getting your furever baby!!!! Can't wait to see pictures.....
I have had a similar passion for sheepdogs since childhood.

I actually sold my bicycle to buy my first OES when I was young. I'm now on my 12th sheepdog, plus fostering an OES for a short time a couple of times. All but my first dog and two others have been rescues. You're doing the right thing. Rescuing is the only way to go.
Welcome! I'm glad to hear you've decided to adopt a sheepie. There's certainly nothing more rewarding! OESRNSE is a great organization and I'm sure your patience will pay off with a companion you'll love for years.

P.S. I adopted my Genevieve from Southeast and she's a true joy.
Me too! I've wanted a sheepie since childhood too but it took forty-mumble years before the timing was right. We moved to the country last September, have miles of dog walking hills behind the house and 5 year old Daisy (patterdale/staffie/whippet cross) needed a companion so...

I kept an eye on a UK rescue forum and fell in love with a 10 week old sheepie in the Welsh valleys. I was in a long line of potential adopters though and he went to a family in the same street as the rescue organisation. Unfortunately, their family dog wouldn't accept the new pup, she stopped eating and was very withdrawn so they very reluctantly asked the rescue to rehome him. We got a call on the Friday night, a home check on the Saturday morning and collected him on the Saturday evening.

That was a month ago and we're still absolutely besotted. He's the most comical, loving, intelligent dog and happily gets on marvellously with Daisy.

The family who first took him in have been so kind. He came equipped with a lovely big bed, food for a month and more toys than your average 2 year old child  . I've chatted for hours with them and had lots of advice (she's a professional groomer). She rang tonight because I'd sent some photos by snail mail (they're of an alien species that don't use the internet 8O so I can't just whip them off an email) and we're tentatively talking about them coming up for a visit in the spring.

I feel a bit odd saying "Welcome" because I'm a newbie too but I wish you all the best in your search and hope that you'll be as lucky as we've been!

Welcome to you both--
You will love the forum!

Hey, you! Welcome!! It's good to see you here! :ghug:

Having patience is difficult, but I think you'll find yourself in very good company here.

Lots of us who've adopted our OES, or they us, have been right where you are "try-ing" to be patient. I think we'd all agree that our adopted OES were well worth the wait.

LoL! That's for sure! I think some people tend to forget who owns who when living with an OES. Our dogs are quick to remind us though! :)
Thanks to all of you!!!!

Your stories and words of encouragement are extremely appreciated!

It looks like I may be a new "mom" sooner than I expected. We are so excited, and I will most definately keep everyone posted. I will also be asking for advice of course before we bring her home, if she is a good match for us, or us for her!!!

Thanks again!
Welcome aboard!

I had sheepdogs growing up too. First my Dad had Livingston a deaf sheepie and the we had Lavern. When Lavern passed when I was in my early 20's I got my own sheepdog - Winnifred. She was my best friend for 11 years. We still miss her a lot.

After Winnifred died, we adopted Sadie from Ingrid and Betsy at OESRNSE, then we got Stella as a puppy. We also foster Sheeps for OESRNSE so at any point we have 3 OES racing around the yard and house. It's a lot of fun to watch.

Good luck finding your new friend - you couldn't have chosen a better rescue organization to help with your search.

And again welcome to the forum!
