It is not up to another person to determine why someone else should choose to take care of an animal. It doesn't matter if it's a mouse, a goat, a snake or a dog. It's a personal decision that one makes. If you are at the point where you are making judgments about where someone else puts a value on that choice, then you need to understand how much your opinion matters. Unless, animals are being harmed in this process, your emotions and opinions are only relative to you. You don't get to make up the rules. We are humans and as humans we rightfully can live with animals. Any animals. Maybe someone wants a dog because they are cute, maybe because a friend got one, maybe because they are lonely, maybe because they had one when they were young and remember how fun they are, maybe because they want responsibility. It is sad that some people don't think through these reasons and realize that no matter what, a dog is a big decision and for better or worse, you should be responsible to that animal for it's whole life. Life happens thought, and dogs like people are abused, easily left behind when they are not needed any more. But none of these facts gives anyone the right to put down other responsible people's choices. They are no better or worse then your decisions.

If you truly believe that it is cruel to the parents/offspring of Doodle litters, then you would probably have to take your arguments up to all breeds. Obviously, people acting in irresponsible and cruel treatment of animals can't be condoned. Complaining about mutts vs. pure breds, animals prices, reasons for wanting a certain breeds, reasons for deciding how to get your dog...all seems a bit petty and immature. If you believe that all people have to make the same decisions in life that you do because you have figured it all out then you might have bigger issues then the welfare of animals to deal with.
Confused Did I miss something????
Seriously. Where did this come from? Shocked
I almost thought I was on the wrong screen on my computer Laughing
This was posted to an old thread about labradoodles, schnoodles and such.
huhhhhhhhhhhhh
Thanks for the clarification, Ron.....thought I was losing it but then again it is Monday Embarassed
It is not only cruel but it is totally irresponsible to breed a "designer" mix and charge big ticket prices for them when the humane society and shelters are full of just such "mutts" who are in danger of being put to death for want of a good home.
BUT some mixes are just not right. eg..... toy poodle and oes???? not right.

eh?

NO mix is right.
Guest...

I agree with everything "Tasker's mom" says...

in addition, many of these so called designer breeds' temprement and physical appearance remain totally unpredictable due to unethical breeders and rush to sell moneymakers.

The problem with designer dogs is people might think they're trendy -- and that's not a good reason to buy a dog," said Susan Smith, community relations manager for the Franklin County Animal Shelter in Columbus, Ohio. "And before they put down, say $1,200 for a labradoodle or puggle, they should look first in a shelter because they can probably find the same type of dog here."

"We would say 'buyers beware' to customers who believe designer dogs are the best of both worlds," she says. "With a purebred, you know what kind of coat quality you're getting, what kind of temperament, what kind of gait … all of this is documented and guaranteed. With designer dogs, there is no guarantee how the puppies will turn out." These quotes are taken from ABC News website and think they both make valid points!!!!!

(just my 2 cents....)
I agree with you all. Shelters have many designer dogs already. Does the AKC recognize this breed?????????????
I did mean that all mixes are not right.... more or less just stating the safety of the dogs when very weird breeding goes on. I was just a bit vague. opps mixs are mixs add designer tags hopeing for more $$$$ I quess. I just feel for the dogs.

No, of course not. It's not a breed. You don't take two different breeds, breed them together and miraculously "create" a new breed. Creating a breed is a long and painstaking process. Not a quick wham-bam-thank-you-m'am tete a tete between Ms Golden and Mr Poodle...

Ran into one such proud puppy owner the other day coming out of a puppy class. Kept staring at the puppy. It was either the ugliest golden ever born or....? I finally asked and was informed it was a goldendoodle, a new BREED (capitalization hers)

Okey-dokey then. Laughing

Some times such owners will inform me that their doodle of choice is about to be recognized by the AKC. No, the AKC, for better or worse, only recognizes purebred dogs, not a mix between two purebred dogs. That would be...a mix.

The AKC is talking about allowing mixed breeds to compete in their companion dog events (obedience, rally, agility and tracking) - and the X-doodles could thus be able to compete in some AKC events - along with the other mixes. They would have to be speutered though to apply for a tracking #, just like the current ILP/PAL program for purebreds without papers.

sigh..................... don't suppose that you siezed the opportunity to inform her that it was not a new "breed" at all but simply a mutt. I know, I know, they do't want to hear it.
Until they are stabilized over many generations with established and reproducable breed characteristics, they are still a mix. Get back to me in 20 generations or more and then we'll talk about a new breed. And it will be far longer before a legitimate canine registry club such as AKC recognizes it.

Nope, I think Ron wrote the post. Wink Not much controversy on the board lately. Time to liven it up.
