Have you tried using Bitter Apple spray? Oliver never was a chewer, but it worked very well for my sister's terrior.
I feel your pain.................

Heart was so well behaved until she reached the ripe old age of 7 months...Then..one day..I noticed...the dining room chair legs..on 4 of the eight chairs were chewed...THEN DINO noticed it!!!!  I don't know when she did it or why---- God knows she has plenty of eVERYthING!!! I did use bitter apple and I think it worked!!!!!

(I am waiting until she is about 18 months, then I will have them refinished.)
My last pup chewed the chair rungs and the baseboard in a corner. Big pups chew big things. I notice no one ever catches them doing it either.

Nigel ate my husband's glasses, grabbed his wallet and chewed slightly, and has been stealing my husband's shoes and chewing on his belt lately.

Notice a pattern...I put all of my things away or out of reach. Yesterday while I was at the gym he grabbed my husbands shorts to chew on his belt some more. (still not put away safe) His keys were in the pocket so Nigel set off the panic alarm. Today...the shorts and belt were in Nigel's mouth AGAIN. I give up...not my stuff.
Hi,
I had the same thing with Rosie when she was 8mths, spray the area's with cheap perfume that will stop her. I did this on all my wooden chairs, kitchen units and anything else she was interested in.

Hope it works for you
We also tried the something like the applebitter, but did something all natural, i can't remember the name. But that stopped him from chewing on shoes and what not.
I just have a problem with him nabbing my stockings! he loves them.
My husband calls it whittling. Occassionally my two (2.5) will still chew on the kitchen chairs. they don't chew on anything else :?
i give up with wilbur lol he chews it with or without spray!

Nothing to be scared of, you just got to teach them to chew on other things BEFORE they find your chairs!! Cassie TRIES to chew on the corner of the coffee table, she wants it so bad! I also caught her chewing on an ink pen, the ones with the liquid ink inside the barrel of the pen, I walk in the room, she stands up really quick, looks up at me, with a 'im sorry' look, her beard BLACK 'Drop it' I said. She did it, she acctually dropped it, I was so proud of her for listening to the command I ALMOST forgot about the trails of ink on the capret... we just moved in! I can tell were not gonna get our deposit back!!
Contrary to his name, Chewie never, ever chewed on any furniture - or shoes, or parts of the house! :D
Hi,

Good suggestions and ideas from many!

Just remember sometimes it's not enought to teach them what you don't want them to do but also to teach them what you want them to do instead.

If you catch them in the act..a firm NO and immediately replace with a chewie toy and lots of praise. Eventually they get what you want them to do and what's acceptable. When not around I've heard that yes bitter apple does the trick.

The quicker you replace the behavior with having a chewie toy handy helps. Have chewie toys in strategic places around the house is what I mean as you can do the reinforcement asap.

Having said that..my Merlin boy chewed two rungs on my chair at age 3..gasp..never did it before! He's at the age when he listens so when he saw my displeasure..firm NO and then gave him a toy instead and lots of good boy!" did the trick. I'm not sure why he did that and I'm thinking perhaps someone had spilt food down there to entice him to try it out age age 3.

With pups, many are teething and thus feel the need to chew. In the wild mother wolves often bring sticks into the den for the pups to chew on. It's why many of our little furkids view shoes laying around as something you've left out just for them..lol!

Good luck!
Marianne
I got some bitter apple...I think it worked....but I now have to repair the chairs ...then see if he chews...right now it is hard to tell if he is still chewing....I have only caught him once......and he knew he had done something wrong........
