Food allergies

Has anyone compared ingredients in foods to see what might help with an itchy dog? I have read that beef, chicken, dairy, eggs, wheat, coen, and soy are the usual allergy producing foods.

I am changing Bella over from a formula that is mostly chicken to a lamb and rice formula. I have been agonizing over pet foods since my Winston was poisoned from it in March 2007. I just want something that works so I can get on with my life. I am including the ingredients from Blue Buffalo's lamb and Rice that I am switching to now. I was feeding Canidae but she was so gassy and they both had soft stools.

Deboned Lamb, Lamb Meal, Whole Ground Barley, Whole Ground Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Rye, Fish Meal, Whole Potatoes, Tomato Pomace (natural source of Lycopene), Sunflower Oil (natural source of Omega 6 Fatty Acids), Natural Flavor, Whole Carrots, Whole Sweet Potatoes, Blueberries, Cranberries, Flaxseed, Barley Grass, Dried Parsley, Alfalfa Meal, Kelp Meal, Taurine, L-Carnitine, L-Lysine, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Green Tea Extract, Turmeric, Garlic, Herring Oil (natural source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids), Fructooligosaccharides, Monooligosaccharides, Dried Chicory Root, Black Malted Barley, Oil of Rosemary, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin C, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Beta Carotene, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin (Vitamin B3), Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Folic Acid, Biotin, Choline Chloride, Calcium Phosphate, Zinc Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Zinc), Iron Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Iron), Copper Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Copper), Manganese Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Manganese), Potassium Amino Acid Complex (source of Chelated Potassium), Cobalt Proteinate (source of Chelated Cobalt), Potassium Chloride, Sodium Selenite, Salt, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bacillus subtilis, Bifidobacterium thermophilum, Bifidobacterium longum, Enterococcus faecium.

Tell me what you think guys...I just started the switch today.

I've only compared the main ingredients (ie, the grains and the meats used) to try and help Barney. He was super itchy with lamb and rice, so now we're trying chicken and oatmeal. He seems to be doing better on it.
I am at a loss with these dry dog foods, so I am no help sorry. In the Uk the vets say one type of food, each pet shop you go in recommend different ones.
I am afraid I now just stick to James Wellbeloved and Nutro. Looking at Wellbeloved which Summer is sort of half on (she is still eating tinned food from the vets as well) it is supposed to be really good hypo allergenic. I do like them to have a big kibble though as well, and the Junior one isnt that big.
My last oes Katy used to be on nutro large breed kibble, and Tilly insisted on eating it as well. Used to take her ages she used to take each big bit in the other room. She really shouldn't have dirty teeth, but she has! :?
If Bella can handle the lamb, the rest looks good to me. (Lamb doesn't agree with Oscar, so he eats Venison and Brown Rice.) I like two things about this list....one, there are no added proteins other than the meat source and two, the last few ingredients are probiotics.

I hope Bella does well on this kibble.

You might want to try the Wellness "Simple Food Solutions" to try and beat allergies. http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/dog_well ... index.html

Also try adding some cod liver oil in the food too. This combination has been great for us.
I have heard of a few dogs with allergies to flaxseed - it is listed in your ingredient list.
I will look into wellness after this one. I have to give it the time required 8-12 weeks to test it. She didn't seem this bumpy on Canidae, but she got worse on the chicken formula...now we are trying to switch to lamb.
The ONLY food Pepsi can handle without gas or tummy issues is Authority Lamb And Rice.
We had him on richer food with those same fruits and veggies you listed and boy was his stinky .... and runny.
She is on that food with chicken...I think the chicken is the culprit...but the stools are better and less gas. That is why I am changing over to the lamb and rice. I will look up authority too. I so want to be done with this food thing. I have been switching foods for over a year.
I meant she is on Blue Buffalo with chicken, switching over to lamb. Authority doesn't list all ingredients on their food online. Can you tell me what is in the lamb and rice E? Wellness doesn't list all ingredients on the simple solution foods either. I think I need valium...this food stuff is making me crazy.

OK. My vet gave me some pills and shampoo to control the little bumps and itching. I am switching her to the lamb based diet, which he was good with. He says it's allergies, but she is not that bad.

The little bump on her toe is probably a small benign tumor. He gave me lotion for that for now. I will leave it alone if it doesn't bother her. I just want her to feel good so we can start herding classes. I feel like we are heading the right way, but it takes a little while for a food change to kick in.

Thanks guys...I love you all for listening...and your input. :hearts:
We have Bella on the Blue Bufflo salmon and sweet potato. She still has gas but it's not as bad. She still has very soft stools and our vet said to try putting in a tablespoon of canned pumpkin. We will see and smell if there is a differance and let you know.
I didn't put my Bella on that because it has chicken flavoring in it, and I was trying to avoid all allergens. The canned pumpkin will help firm up the stool and may cut down on the gas. I use it periodically here and always have some in the house.
