Crying/whining--does this sound friendly?

I took Barney over to our neighbor's yard yesterday evening after walking him to say hi. It was me, Barns, the 2 adult neighbors, their parents, and their almost 3 year old daughter. I had Barney sit nicely so the girl could come over and pet him, which he seemed to like. She then left to go do something elsewhere in the yard and he starting this strange crying/whining/whinnying noise. You almost couldn't hear it. When she came back he pretty much stopped. When she went off again, he started up.

Do you think he really likes her and was whining for her to come back? He's never really been around kids (aside from the ones we meet on our walks), and since we're having one soon, I want to make sure this is nice whining and not anything else. Oh, he also did it last week when we stopped in this same neighbor's yard and there were 2 other little kids there as well.

Oh yeah! He wants to PLAY!
Sounds like he really enjoyed the attention he got and wanted more.
How cute! :hearts:

Lacey does the whining when my kids stop petting her. She is such an attention whore. If the moved, she'll go over near them and flop and her back and start crying until they pet her. If they are close she just flops herself on them and whines.
He wanted to go with her and play. :hearts:
Yeah! Good, that's what I was thinking. I was just making sure it didn't sound like he was hungry and wanted to eat them!
Pearl does this really soft, whine...when she wants to be closer to someone...generally it is a child....
Barns is all ready for the LO :D
Barn has someone to look at eye ball to eye ball. He's in :hearts:

Also he may be viewing her as possible herding material, so I'd still be cautious. By all means keep him meeting people of all ages and sizes.

ha ha--they were definitely eye ball to eye ball! His nose kept bumping hers!

Yes, I'm very careful, probably too careful, and had a tight grip on his leash the whole time. He even did really well when she decided to run in circles around him. He just watched her, and sometimes he whinnied!
that is so cute! He likes her so much he wants her to come back and play!
