Liitle bumps on the skin???

Bella is a dry skinned itchy girl. Since she has been shaved I can feel little pimple sized bumps on the skin under her short fur. I have seen little scabs here and there since we got her, but figured they were old. We have no fleas or ticks here. I am guessing she must have an allergy to something, but what? There are no hot spots. She is going to the vet on Friday...but I thought I would ask the widely experienced forum.

She is on Blue Buffalo now with no corn, wheat, or soy. That was the first try for no allergens...guess I have to check the treats ingredients now.

sounds like it could be flea bite reactions
Sounds like a reaction to the shaving, some type of cyst (there are many different types), reaction to some previous bites (sand flieas, ants), allergy bumps or any number of things. Old dogs get lumps and bumps just like people and with her being an itchy girl........who knows. Poor baby.
I think it is most likely allergies...we don't have fleas or ticks. I think she has been given the treatment before she came here, so she didn't bring any in. She does have very dry skin...but most of the bumps are on her back where she can't reach. They were already there when shaved.
Those little bumps were a puzzle to figure out for me too. My vet did a couple of skin scrapeings...but nothing ever showed up. I was going to make another appointment for the more extensive skin scrapeing...but she went to live with you before I got it done. She had a couple of little bumps on her head that just wouldn't go away. :? I hope you get some answers from your vet.

I wonder if it's a contact allergy... like a contact dermatitis.

I've got a couple of allergy girls, both year-round and seasonal and receiving shots for molds and dust for a few years now, but the only bumps I've ever found were on the pinnas or ear flaps. No scabs, just bumpy.

You might ask the vet if an antiseptic shampoo might help to clear this up and also a soothing conditioner for now. I keep ChlorhexiDerm by DVM on hand and use it for the occasional abrasion or ouchie.

NOT that this is what you should do... only other options you might consider and discuss with your vet...
We give 3V Caps, Vitamin E and Missing Link Detox formula everyday (only the big sheepie-girls get the 3V Caps) so they don't have any dry skin problems. It was Dr. Dodds who recommended the Vitamin E and C for our allergy girls. We feed Eagle Pack Holistic Select and their treats plus natural foods like veggies and cooked meats... some Honest Kitchen too. We stopped all grocery store treats... they haven't gotten Milk Bones or Pupperoni in about a year.

If there are any lumps (not just bumpy skin), ask the vet to try to aspirate them. One vet told us Emma's were too small to aspirate so we had them surgically removed for $900 only to discover they were cysts. Another small lump appeared a few weeks ago... the new vet in the practice grabbed a small syringe/needle and while I rubbed Emma's ears she quickly/easily/painlessly aspirated the thing, said it was a cyst and that nothing needed to be done. Sigh.

Years ago our OES-mix had little bumps on her belly that were itchy and scabby... hers were due to staph and an antibiotic and daily bathing with an antiseptic shampoo cleared it up.

Again, not sure if anything here will help, just some ideas.
Best wishes~
Well, she just had a big cyst removed because it burst to the outside. Nothing feels big enough to be a cyst...just like a pimple...do dogs gets acne? (just kidding) I will have him go over her when she goes on Friday. She also has a flat red bump on her little toe that she won't leave alone. It looks like a wart.

I hope I remember all this. She is doing so well as a part of my family...I just want her to feel 100% too. Thanks guys!

Actually, yes, they can but it's usually on the chin or mouth area. My
OES-mix had it. http://www.petplace.com/dogs/acne-in-dogs/page1.aspx If I remember correctly we washed her chin with a benzoyl peroxide shampoo too.

Good luck at the vet!
Oliver had little bumps that looked like pimples last spring. They were in his groin area, and a few down the inside of his back legs. Turned out just to be a reaction to something (misquito, flea, etc). We gave him some children's allergy meds and they cleared up quickly.

Hope your is that easy...
