Has anyone been to the US Virgin Islands?

We have pretty much made up our minds to GO somewhere, anywhere that is warm with ocean winds and lots of sand to dig our toes into, the last week of April. So with that in mind we got to thinking about where..The Virgin Islands came up and Randy knows someone who went so that makes it ok to him  . I've been on line and it fits the bill but I don't know too much about it. Which Island to go to, St. Thomas which is the busiest, St. John which is two thirds national park or the St Croix which I think is the smallest Island. Maybe stay in St. Thomas and take day trips to different islands?

Where to stay? What to do? Allinclusive or not?

Anyone???

I've been to St. Thomas. I had a good time. My favorite Caribbean vacation that I ever took though was to the Dominican Republic. It was beautiful and I had the best time. It was all inclusive, which was fantastic. I got my money's worth in food and drinks!
i think sue and tim have.....sue?????
My hubby and I went to St. Thomas for our honeymoon (Nov. 2000). We stayed at the Windham SugarBay resort. It is all inclusive. We took ferry rides to St. John. We did some scuba diving. Of course it was our honeymoon, our room was GREAT!!! (we stayed in alot  ) I would go back every weekend if I could. You will love it!!!
I have to ask - what is your idea of a great vacation? Lots of activities, day trips, laying at the beach all day, gambling? Fancy restaurants or inexpensive places? Big hotel or small?

I've been to St Thomas and St John. You can easily take a ferry from one to the other. St John is quieter and great for big empty beaches, snorkling, scuba. If you want more of a choice for restaurants, lots of shopping, then stick with St Thomas.

I've done a few all inclusive (Bahamas and Cancun) and it can be a great way to go. Make sure you pick a resort with several restaurants so you have some variety for meals, since you'll be eating all of your meals on the property. Even my mom loved the all inclusive - she doesn't drink, but loved the fact that she could walk up to the bar and get a diet coke or bottle of water any time without having to worry about carrying cash.
Hi,

I've been to all three but it was some time ago. I loved them all!!!

What they are very famous for is their jewlery..I'm not talking about the 100 dollar rings but gems are considered quite inexpensive on the Island. So for a few grand you could pick up an emerald or ruby necklace that would be worth 20,000 or more in the US for a pittance of that on those Islands. If I remember correctly it's either St. Thomas or St. Johns.

Now if you don't like jewlery or if you're like me are not interested in gems it's still kinda neat to check out the jewlery stores. Also the most fabulous places to scuba dive or snorkel as the marine life is unlike anything you've ever seen. All amazing places. Have fun!!!

I've only been to St Thomas as a cruise stop. We enjoyed part of the day, but then it rained :( Folks we met did recommend the Wyndam all inclusive.
I like St Thomas but a little more fond of St Marteen.
We went to St Thomas and St Marteen on a cruise last year and loved it. Marianne is correct - The jewelry is incredible - I came home with a beautiful diamond watch. :) I also tried on the prettiest diamond necklace just for fun- but my husband looked like he was going to throw up and we had to leave the store.

All inclusive is a nice way to go - but try to pick a nicer one. We went to a Sandals in Jamacia a few years back and the food and service was ok - but not outstanding. The resort next to us was a little more expensive - but I heard the food, drink selection and service was outstanding.

Have Fun!!!!!!!
