Should I return my Temperpedic mattress

I bought a temperpedic (tempurpedic ergo) about a month ago, and not sure to send it back. First few nights back was killing me, my teenager slept with me one night and her back is now hurting. I had back surgery and decided to spend the money on a good matress and this is still not working. Anyone know how long it takes to adjust wondering if I should get the sleep by number instead?? Still wake up in pain but not as bad as first couple weeks or with previous matresses. I am a side sleeper and not sure if that is the issue.

I heard that those Temperpedic mattresses can get all mildewey too...from your sweat. I would return it if you have that option...you shouldn't have to get used to a mattress. It should be good, or not so good. I don't think there is a mattress in existence for me. I also sleep on my side but I have a sciatica in one hip, and not enough fluid in my shoulder joints. Ambien is the only thing that works for me.
i have back issues big time. i had a pillow top with coils in it. not good. i bought one of the temperpedic toppers at SAMS club... and it does seem to help me. I have been looking at buying a Temp. mattress but at king size OH MY the price.... I did go (with my neighbors permission) and sleep on theirs one night while they were out of town, and I do like it.... and am thinking of getting a whole one instead of the topper...... but from SKYMALL instead....... hmmmmmm 800.00 instead of 2500.00!

But i also have thought about the sleep number. Anyone else tried one of those?

One of my patients is a "world famous" sleep Dr (he's been in bed with Oprah  ). He says the Temperpedics are one of the worst matresses you can sleep on. They hold in the body heat and are not good support.

On his recommendation we have a Simmons Beautyrest Exceptionale and I LOVE IT.
I have had a Tempur-pedic for over 2 years and love it. I would do a commercial for the company. I bought it because of shoulder problems and the problems went away. On my recommendation, 2 friends bought the mattresses and also love them. But everyone is different. If the mattress causes your back to hurt, then return it.

There are couple of threads on mattresses. I know one is on Select Comfort. Do a search in this forum.
I think it really depends on the person. At first it was really comfortable for us but we've noticed in the last year, that if we sleep in the bed for more than 7 hours we both get lower back pain. We then have slept in guest bed for a few nights (not Tempur-pedic) and didn't have any back pain. We got our mattress in the spring of 2002. I don't know if it's just worn out, which is annoying because it costs so much money. So we are looking into buying another mattress, but not Tempur-pedic. The nice thing about the TP's is that you can't feel the bed jiggling when someone else gets in it while you are sleeping.
Mother has a Thermopedic, hated it until she got a fiber mattress cover......some special type of filling. Now she's not sleeping in a pool of her sweat.......so the mattress is OK. Still dislikes walking up "in a hole."

We've had a Select Comfort for over 10 years. It's fine. Problem is I'm no longer sleeping on it as there's no room for me. My only time is if I can sneak in a day nap......then it's wonderful. The sleep number does change around especially if dogs get onto it as the mechanism must adjust for too much weight. So we have to reset it a bit more often.

Would I get another?? Hmm, I was thinking of an adjustable bed for the next bed, but that's even more $$$$$$$$$
Thanks everyone for the feedbak. I agree that not all beds are for everyone, I am really thinking of changing to sleep by number but then i read their are issues with the air pump and water in the bed and you cant make yoru bed everyday or it will mildew..UGH The only thing I do love about my temperpedic is you cant feel the other person toss and turn or in my case they cant feel me toss.
We bought a sleep number bed seven years ago after I had shoulder surgery. I love being able to change the firmness depending on what my shoulder needs (the other shoulder will have surgery in June).
No mildew problems at all.

You do have to adjust it a bit for all of the critters on the bed. And it can put you in a hoe in the morning after the dogs get off the bed....
We've had a Select Comfort bed for about 5 years now and I LOVE it. I have back problems as well and it's the only bed that lets me sleep comfortably enough. I've never heard of the mildew problems, and I do make the bed every day - so far, so good. I would think that if it was going to act up, it would have done it by now.
LOVE OUR SLEEP NUMBER TOO!
Simmons has their own version of the "sleep number" that is supposed to be even better than the original!

DEAR CONSUMER,

AT least a month. Most people find that the mind interfears with the body.
This is why mattress companies offer a month in your home free.

Typically, after two weeks the mind has stopped thinking about the way the bed moves and your body moves and feels. This is when the body is allowed to take over and sleep normally.

Temperpedic is the best sleep system out on the market.

I have been in the design industry for 30 years and I have the ability to pick and choose from any company.
For me and everyone that I have ever recommended a mattress for, they all have come back stating, "Temperpedic is the best".

Make sure you also get the pillows as well.

Good Luck.

Regards,
donna in Md.
My Husband and I house sat for my aunt who has a sleep number bed and we were so excited that we would get to try it out. We actually hated it and slept in another room. The bed would have been great if we liked the same firmness, but I like it softer than he does. So everytime we would cuddle, one of us was on the boarder of the two sides. It was the worst sleep we had ever had. If you are single.. go for it, but if you are sleeping with someone else that wants a different number, good luck.
That is a limitation. If you cuddle in the middle of the bed, this isn't for you since one of you will be off their side completely and the other probably partially off.

Remember the nice part is you can set your own side to fit your needs from day to day. And until you find your "sleep number" and understand there is a difference from other mattresses, it takes a few nights to get used to it. Some people never do. A friend loves HARD mattresses, Select Comfort could not get firm enough for her.

Ahahahaaha! Well, once you've been married for forever the cuddling in the middle thing might not be such an issue. ;)

Just FYI if you don't already know this, a lot of King Size beds have a similar issue with a hump in the middle because of the two single box springs underneath.
Had a temperpedic bed and my husband hated it. He couldn't stand sleeping in a hole. He said everytime he tried to turn over he couldn't because he was stuck in a hole. He could not get a good nights sleep at all. I didn't mind the bed because I usually stay in the same position. Woke up with no back pain in the morning. We ended up sending the bed back and got the Sleep Number Bed. Both of us love it. We have a king so each one of us can pick our own number. Wake up with no back pain, and my husband has no shoulder pain. I would recommend this bed to anyone.
I'm all over the bed and a fretful sleeper, I could not imagine a bed with a hump that would make my needs for a soft sleep & hubby's without more major sleep problems. There's got to be a hump in the middle that has to be a problem.
Well, i bit the dust and bought the sleep comfort number bed with the temperpedic top last week. I have to wait 2 weeks for them to deliver it but i am excited. I'll let you know how it goes..................
I spent $3800 a year ago on my king and it has softened,it is very hot and i wake up in pain. And of course there is no customer service fom mattress firm or Tempur-pedic. They said the three month trial is over - sorry!

A year and a $3800 mattress is not holding up - tired and frustrated!!
