Doggie Prozac

Hi! Anyone have experience or witnessed positive changes when a dog takes Prozac? We are trying prozac in the AM with Annie. Her tension and anxiety are becoming hazardous for everyone including herself. It's been about a week now and I swear I notice some relaxation. We increase the dose this weekend (not sure what is it). Thanks!

We purchased Cosmo...a beardie from a byb...(terrible)

I had to get a behaviourist in to evaluate him...he has what is termed as Kennelosis..

We got Cos when he was 6 months old and he was a joy when we met him...then we took him from his home and he had a major meltdown in the car....
I called the byb (not going to use the term breeder) and asked what was going on with this dog???
She said...well...I never took him out of the back yard...OMG!!!!!

This 6 month old puppy had never seen another human being, besides the "family"...had never been in a car....never been on a leash....never has SEEN a car...never been brushed...(can you believe that????)..never experienced normal everyday noises....

I told her I wanted to take him back and she said...well ...youre not getting your money back and I'll just take him to the pound!!!!!.... :x :x :x

(calm..now) Cos has been our baby for the past 4 years...baby steps all the way...all the time...He is on a prozac and another "drug"...It costs me about $140.00 a month for his meds...He is calmer and more focused on the meds..but he still get very scared at times. I have tried many many times to socialize him...he wants nothing to do with the outside world...so..we love him on his terms....

( and ...he is the sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever owned...and he has such patience when it comes to putting up with Heart :hearts: !!!!!!)

Good Luck!!!!

Ohmigod when we used doggie prozac it was about 40 cents a pill!!
Prozac is now about 10 cents per pill retail. Ask the vet to write a prescription and bring it to Costco. ;)

I just checked and 100 prozac is under $12.
Cosmo is on 50mg--Clomipramine
10mg.Bluspirone

I just refilled both perscriptions and the total was about $130.00---I was mistaken on the "per month"....it lasts me about 2 1/2 months...Then every six months I take him to a vet specializing in behaviour and he may change the meds if there isn't a marked improvement...He, the vet keeps telling me that we just have to find the right combination and there are many different drugs for this kind of "problem"...

We still haven't found the right combo...
Cosmo is a sweetie.......... he just needed to find you and Dino Val.

I used prozac on our old guy...... he never got over his flight from the UK I think he wasnot mentally ready to leave his mum...... we could not leave him in a crate, and he found out he could get our attenion if he went into the bathroom and closed the door and barked. Well we weren't home the last time and he literally demolished the door and chewed/scratched a hole through the plaster walls. He could just not be left........ bless his heart.

The vets at Tuft's put him on prozac. I never thought it helped him really.
