Playdates in Northern NY

Baloo and his family (aka The Madden's) live at Fort Drum, NY (north of Syracuse) and we are looking for others to have a play date sometime.

Is there ANYONE within driving distance, who would want to get together when the weather gets a bit better??
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
Define driving distance? I live below ALbany.
I'm only 5 hours and a border away...
We live about 2 hours away from Syracuse, and some Sunday, when its nice we would love to get our sheepies together, we like to take road trips :D :D
I'm all for a weekend get together!
Baloo and I are game-- we should make plans for something and anyone
who wants can come!! :D :D :clappurple:
Just let me know what date, I will have to look and see if we have a show that weekend. It should be fun :D
I'm about 3 hours and a bit from Buffalo....
Ok.... Hmmm. I have something going every weekend in June....

Do we want to keep it a Sunday? Is Saturday better for folks?
Saturday or Sunday works for me, I just need to know the date so I can check my calendar for shows.
July 19 or 20??
Gives us time to plan and look for a park...
that might be doable for me - I haven't made many plans for July yet. and Morgan would love a sheepie get together so he can stand up on the picnic table again and get away from all the crazy dogs  :?
Hi,

We have a huge play date, next Saturday June 14th. It's only and hour and 20 minutes from Albany. You are all more than welcomed to join us.

There will be lots of sheepies, and sheepie games. Good food and cold drinks for both pups and uprights. We promise all will have a fun day !

OK, now that you've insulted the main organizer in another thread    Sybil's fond of picnic tables and Morgan, so she'd be happy to join him there. Let me take a closer look at my schedule and if I can make it, whatever date you guys decide on, I will.

I'm trying to remember what dog friendly places they have in the area. I used to walk my dog around Green Lakes on the East Side, but it's all on leash, if you're even allowed to bring dogs there anymore, especially mid-summer. It's gorgeous in the fall. I miss it.

Kristine
OK, here's a possibility for you guys. Morgan may even approve since they have some agility equipment and such.

Che is excited about the red fire hydrants...Sybil wants to know if they're edible?

Where?? Where?? Where?? I will try and make it!! Need me to bring anything?
As far as anything else being planned.... I am up for all the help I can get. There are not many dog friendly areas here near Drum (that I have found any way) .... so I would love suggestions. There are lots of trails and such but not off-leash parks.

I also found out today that there is another family in Adams Center that got a sheepie puppy a few months back. I am trying to get contact info. I heard that from the doggie daycare place Baloo goes to play at. (SHHH we tell him he is going to SCHOOL when he goes there -- so he's not so jealous when the kids get on the school bus)

So maybe I can invite them too -- if I ever talk to her, that is.

Speaking of not-dog-friendly places~ The town outside of the base here is Watertown. Some of us have been trying to petition the city for a Dog Park in the area. We even got a place to DONATE all the fencing items needed and we've been getting donations sent into the city offices, holding fundraisers and walks, and events at Petco.... ALL to drum up interest and support.

Well.... a few weeks ago at the monthly city meeting when it came up again on their agenda-- would you BELIEVE that they actually said they were going to drag their feet on this project because they were "worried about being ridiculed" 8O ??WHAT?? We were all dumb-struck at the meeting.

Marley has developed an unreasonable fear of them!! I almost lost my arm in PA at a rest stop when she saw one.

:D :P we do the same thing and we have no kids getting on the school bus
I just looked at that link ... looks like a nice place. I think I will have to SEND THAT to the City Folks here... Onondaga county wasn't worried about being ridiculed..... :P

There is a fire hydrant at the corner that Baloo would freak out about everytime we got near it.... I had to have my husband go stand next to it and lean on it before Boo would go anywhere near it. He barked several times, slowly ventured closer.... and then sniffed it. After that he let out a big ol' SNORT (like he was suddenly miffed it wasn't anything REAL) and he's not payed any attention to it since!!! :phew:

Its a talent. 8)
LOL.....
:D
 It's all good.
Hi All,

I truly want to apology if I offened anyone, that was not my intention at all!

I guess being new to writing to the forum, I should have minded my p's and q's.

I promise not to interrupt anyone's conversations anymore.

Sincerely,

Donna Couture
Donna!!

You didn't insult anyone. I think you read something wrong!!!

Or you're not yet accustomed to the fact that we can have five discussions going on at once in a single thread, some of them thread jumpers at that

Kristine
I was never insulted..... Confused once (but that is not hard to do)
I can take it and dish it....

Like I said: It's all good! Nothing wrong on my end..... :D
I didn't realize that picnic was only 4 hrs away. I guess I looked at the State and thought.... Oh tooo far! (I'll say it again... I am a lame-o at times)

I talked to hubby and we are going to see what we can do. We may have to pass only because we are going to Pocono this weekend and the Friday after the picnic we are going to Ohio for my mom's 75th birthday party.
SHHH don't tell her-- it's a surprise!

So it's just having the funds to do it all is the issue.... taking 3 trips with 5 people and a dog on a Soldier's pay is not easy.

Keep fingers crossed.... I will consider selling one of the kids, if I get the right price!
:yay: :clappurple:

Baloo will be at the Picnic..... Can't wait to meet everyone.
Woo hoo!

Enjoy the bed hop!
Where is Onodaga park?

It's on the north side of Onondaga Lake, I believe the physical address is in Liverpool - a suburb of Syracuse. It's not far from where I-81 and the thruway (I-90) cross, so that's an added benefit.

Kristine
I think we were at a show there last year, we would be close enough to attend :D Anyone have a problem with July 12?
I have no problem with that date. I'm all for it. I think that park sounds rather nice. Maybe Baloo and my gang will go visit it before that day and scope it out-- (He really wants to play!!!)

July 12th ok with everyone else???
When you scope it out please let us know, and we ca set the date for sure. :D

I thought we were talking the 19th? I guess the 12th works - I do have to book a trip and was thinking that weekend but I can juggle - the 10th is my birthday so there better be cake
Yes we shall have cake
We were originally talking the 19th. Loried suggested the 12th and I was ok with that date too.... If you can't juggle the weekends let us know and we can go back to the 19th (or I know I can... anyone else able to juggle if needed?)

Cake sounds great to me!!! I like Cake.
do we have a date yet? my weekends are starting to fill up and I need to book my Key West trip this weekend.
I was just thinking about that this morning. I am ok with botht he 12th and the 19th. If you need to plan your Key West (very nice!!!) trip on the 12th... it's ok. We will just meet the 19th.

Ok... that was not much help was it?? Sorry. I just really am OK with either one....
pick whichever date works best - we've changed Key West to August.
Well... then I am all for Saturday the 19th. Gives us a meet N greet halfway between now and the Rochester Picnic on Aug 2nd.

Anyone OK with that?
I have another picnic I was scheduled to go to, but I suppose I can ditch that for the sheepie picnic. We should start planning now.
ohh Kristine which date works for you since you may be coming the furthest?

I am okay with either - but I need to know soon because I am scheduling herding classes.
I'm so confused! I keep checking back to this thread thinking it's a Northern IL playdate. no?
The location is in New York state, plan a road trip :D All are welcome
Do we have a definite date yet?
OK I guess we need to get this worked out-- FAST!!

I am going to that park tomorrow after I drop my middle son at Camp. I will take some pics too...

Here are some of my thoughts... please someone step on my toes if I am being whiny...

1. Do we want to do anything before the Rochester park day thing in August?? I mean... if someone has to drive a bit--- gas is outrageous-- and to do it in July AND August.... too much $$???

2. I originally just wanted to meet and play and hang out. No frills, no big to-do.... only because I am new to this whole planning a Sheepie park thing. I am the first to admit I have no clue what I am doing!!!! I just want to MEET PEOPLE.... LOL

3. I am totally available any Saturday or Sunday in July with the exception of the 5th (we didnt consider that day anyway- so it was not an issue) .... However~ lots of you have other things you are planning. I don't want anyone to have to re-adjust their schedule.... so please.... SOMEONE ELSE pick the date that everyone is comfy with. I am soooo easy going with any weekend- it's ridiculous.

  I am so pathetic. I know.
I was actually beginning to think October might be better :)
OK All..... I did some reconnisance work on the Wegman's good dog park.

I am going to post and discuss it in the Bark Park pictures place. I know the pics I have will not do the place justice. It is a nice park.

Take a look-see and tell me what you think.
OK..... I posted the pics and my long winded info in the pics section.

Any date is good for me. October may be ok (weather wise) and also for those of us who can't go to sheepiefest.... Check out the pics....
Looked at the park, and it looked great :D If you would like to do the 12 of july Rick and I are still game , let me know. Thanks for scoping the place out.
I can't make the 12th My husband made other plans for next weekend.
O.K, I can't make the 12th or the 19th either, I went ahead and made other plans. Maybe some other time.
