Still alive...can I come home now?

Hi everyone!! Missed being online for a long time. I have very limited access on Wi-Fi at the local McD's but I hate doing that for any length of time and that time is used calling Carl at home from the phone system on
my computer. So my forum time has been limited.

So...I've been in Utah since the beginning of December. Trying to get some legal things ironed out with my mother's estate and visiting/working with my older daughter. I've not been able to see Carl or the half of our pack since I left but talk to him every night. The legal stuff is taking alot!! longer than I anticipated...lol...duh....isn't that the definition of lawyer? Thought life was looking up a bit as the job was picking up and I was doing well there (trying to get out of debt). This morning they call us all in and tell us that we are all laid off (including my dd who has worked there 3 years). sigh**** So now I have no hope of seeing Carl or my other dogs (I have 4 with me) anytime within reason (for me that would have been months ago.

I know I can find a new job here fast...so not as big a problem as it could be.

Anyone have any advice? I thought of the forum first since you are the smartest and most helpful group of people I know.

Anyone know a really cheap way to fly>>>other than flapping my arms which I've considered!

Thanks for reading my whine....hopefully I'll get out of my pity party soon.

Hugs to all!!!

We love you! I wish I had more advice to offer you, but the best I can do is send a virtual hug!!! :ghug:
Sorry everything is bogging down. That is so lousy. What kind of business is (was?) it?

I don't know who flys in/out of Utah, but maybe you could find a discount airline line Jet Blue or Southwest (you have to go directly to their dites to find fares, not on expedia or orbitz, for example) and fly somewhere in the US that is fairly close to home... and maybe someone could drive across the border and pick you up?

Just a thought.
Michele, where would you fly from and to? I'm always booking travel so I can keep my eyes open for you.

Sorry to hear that this is taking so long. At least it will be warming up soon!
Michele, I was thinking of you the other day and wondering where you were. I'm glad you're o.k., and wish you the best of luck in getting things sorted out so you can get home to Carl and the kids (2 and 4 legged) ASAP. I know they miss you as much as you miss them.
Thanks folks for the sympathy. The "business" I was working for was keying data in for immigration...we were a sub contractor and the main contractor finally lost the bid....so...at least 300 people out on their butts with no warning...just last week I put in a 54 hr week because of the workload we had...then this....*sigh*...not as worried about me but so worried for all those that don't have the ability to get new jobs.

I'd fly out of SLC to Ottawa, ON, Canada.

And just FYI ... Carl is there...with 4 dogs...I have 4 dogs and both of the two footers. I've also got the big van and the 26' travel trailer....I'm holding them ransom so that Carl will want me back some time in the future. One of the positive things that's happened.....
I've been homeschooling for 5 1/2 years (because we are American citizens) and now the kids are in public school and adoring it....while I wonder what's up? lol I'll have to get out my journal and relate a few funny stories that have happened to us since arriving....funny now anyway....think full coated sheepdog....poop explosion....and no running water....lol.

Well, I just found out that I can hook up in my churches parking lot but not sure if that's a good idea...I figure I must be "piggy backing" off of someone's net access...and I don't believe in stealing.....so I'm giving it back....

check in tomorrow after the gym and the first job interview.
OH WOW, what a pickle!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my goodness, I assumed you were home! Utah in winter is ugly, but maybe you are used to dark skies and snow.

You are right! Expensive to fly home. Using Delta's lowest fare and using 3 different planes, you can bring it down to around $550 RT. It is the scenic route: SLC --> Las Vegas --> Atlanta --> Toronto.

When you go to one stop: SLC --> NYC --> Toronto you are over $,1000 and direct from SLC to Toronto is obscenly expensive $1300.

I'm thinking SLC is only a hub for Delta. I may be wrong. So going with someone else, you'll have to go thru their hub.

Would you leave the dogs with your daughter?
I did Toronto, doing Ottawa you can use American or United, one stop in Chicago for around $650 rt. , Hotwire found one for $444. (I came up with some fictitious dates)

I realize you have limited internet availability but if you play around you can come up with a bunch. I started with "airlines serving Ottawa" search and on that page found something that referred to booking airlines. It was a service that compared Orbitz and all the other discount booking services. If you can change airlines, say SLC --> Denver -->Chicago --> Ottawa you can drop a few more $$.
Southwest flies roundtrip from SLC to Buffalo for about $300 ($330 with all the fees and taxes) roundtrip.
Also flies SLC to Detroit for about $200 ($233 with fees and taxes)

Use the "Southwest Shortcut" feature to find your fares.
I has been so good to hear from you. Regarding your Wi fi usage...check with the libraries in your area, many have them. Good luck booking your flight...many are cheaper on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so today would be a good day to check in. Also, check the web site of the airline you are thinking of using...I get my best prices there also. Remember it is cheaper to buy your tickets on-line then to purchase over the phone...they add on a fee. Good luck and I hope you and Carl can get together soon!

Fly into Buffalo and I will can pick you up and meet Cark halfway....$300 is not bad at all!

Would you fly with the kids and dogs?
I have about 13,000 FF miles on Continental and I won't use them before they expire. I'd be happy to give them to you, if you can use them.
I'm sorry you've been stuck for so long. I hope it doesn't take much longer.
:ghug:
That sucks that you've been away so long....
Hopefully things get straightened out soon.
Any chat about Carl possibly relocating?
Hi,

I was wondering how you've been and glad to have heard some news. I hope everything works out for you and that soon you and Carl will be re-united. I am truly amazed at your spirit and what you've done for the love of your furkids. You're in my thoughts!

Marianne
Michele,
get thee to my house woman! If you need to you can fly out of denver on Southwest to Buffalo. We'll figure things out with dogs and kids.

Thinking of you, you need to call........

Ali
