A question re bones

Had a lovely prime rib Monday and wonder if it's ok to give the cooked bones to Dutch ?

I would not give a dog cooked bones. I was told that they get brittle after cooking and could splinter. If you want them to have a bone...get raw marrow bones from the butcher.
thanks :D I wont, and I do get the raw, smoked ones but was just wondering about these lovely bones :D
Always remember, NEVER COOKED! Cooking dries them out making them easier to splinter. Also the bigger the bone (thickness) the better. Femurs are ideal......like dinosaur bones out there,

Avoid all poultry except the soft wings and backs.......those they can crunch down and eat raw. Even raw, leg bones are not good. Of course you'll have to weigh the disease options with raw poultry and may decide not to take a chance at all.

Really? I thought raw whole chicken was okay? aaargh this is confusing :)
Well.........it's the leg bone, those could cause problems. If you debone the legs, then yes, the rest of the bones are small enough to be easily crunched. If your dog is a good chewer, then.........maybe. People I know who feed raw........and when I did too.......they/we stuck with chicken wings, necks, backs. The rest of the bird was for US! Now if you grind the chicken.......then yes, the bones get mooched up and are fine.
Izzie eats chicken leg quarters raw with no problems, but she has a good strong jaw.
Good girl Izzie!

Actually I have read our big dogs shouldn't have wings - only small dogs should eat wings.
I checked a few meaty bones sites and leg bones seem fine. Phew that's what I defrosted for the dogs dinners and Morgan LOVES them
There used to be a Raw Feed sheepdog chat group. Where is it when we need it. Actually if your dogs are doing well and chew well, great! munch away.
I watched him crunch through the leg and thigh bones last night - not a care in the world! Miss Marley had some slightly cooked chicken on her kibble - she is a dainty one
I am on a natural OES Group that does talk about raw feeding. I believe people do feed chicken wings, backs, necks, and leg quarters.

The biggest distinction to make about feeding smaller sized things is what kind of chewer your dog is. If they will just try to swallow it whole....then wings may not be for them. Others may chew it well, and it is okay for them.
