Spring Play Date

Hello all Wisconsin and Illinois sheepie owners, It's been a long, cold winter and our fluffy guys/gals need to get out of the house. I am proposing a spring prelude to the sheepiepalloza.......a playdate/romp at Minooka Dog Park in Waukesha on Sunday, March 30th at 2pm. It is a relatively new dogpark to the waukesha area, fully fenced in and wonderfully spacious. Besides taking the risk of it being muddy (if the snow ever melts), I think it would be a great time. There is a small entrance fee to the park. It's located on the corner of Racine Ave and Sunset Ave. in waukesha. Please let us know if you can join Barkley and I for a playdate...

We'll be there!!!

Will spread the word to the WI rescue people who don't <gasp> frequent the forum, as we've all been complaining about our dogs bouncing off the walls!!!

Kristine

Doreen?

I can probably make it. We need to check the status of that particular dog park though as they close it when it's really muddy...which, being April in WI...

Do we have a back-up park?

Kristine
I can't make it the week after but could make it the follwing Sunday the 13th at 2pm??? I would love the biggest turnout possible so let me know what all of you think. We could try Minooka in Waukesha or Runway dogpark off of Rawson by the airport as our backup. I live right around the corner from Minooka and could check the conditions the day before or the morning of whenever we decide to go. I'm not sure where everyone lives but there are also fenced in dogparks in Jefferson and Grafton and Mequon I think. I'm open for anything, including the date change. Let me know what you think.....
Doreen
Please excuse my childish behavior and ignore my last post. Have fun THIS weekend!
No, no, that's fine, Pam - and Doreen's right - we go for the weekend most can attend. I know Sunny's busy April 6. I need to check on an agility trial April 13th, but let's keep working on this.

Yes, the Grafton dog park is fully fenced. Mequon is not.

Kristine
No Pam, we wan't you there. I need to meet Gar and see how much he and Barkley resemble one another in both looks and personality. I don't think any of us are set on this sunday as a date. Though all of our dogs need to get out of the house, we wan't as many people to be able to join as possible. Let's look at the April 16th weekend or even shoot for the weekend after that (which is also open for me....either Saturday or Sunday actually). Also, I know where Pam lives but for those traveling from Illinois there is suppose to be an awesome dogpark in Racine. Maybe we could be open to going more south in order to minimize the drive for those traveling from Illinois. Let's keep chatting about this and weather pending, make something happen.
Doreen
I can't come - but just wanted to add a little depressing news. We here in southern MN are in a winter storm advisory for up to 12 inches of snow on Thursday. So it should be right on your doorstep by this weekend!
The Racine park is GORGEOUS. But it's not fenced - far enough off the road and big enough that I take my guys offlead, but I wouldn't risk it with a rescue - and it's apparently a hotspot for blasto. 8O

I go when conditions are just right (dry or completely frozen, no wind), but....too risky. Such a shame because it is an awesome park.

My first choice would be the new Waukesha park, but Grafton has always remained open through mud season. It's not huge, but it's plenty big enough. And it attracts a nice crowd of dogs.

Will ask tomorrow about agility trial. Since I'm not trialing at the moment, I'm not paying attention to the schedule, but I think my instructor mentioned a trial April 12-13. If it's local and outside, I usually try to take some of the guys so I can work them with distractions. I'll know more tomorrow but I think that's problem the best weekend so far???

Oh, and Dawn, they cancelled our winter storm watch. Though we're still supposed to get some snow tomorrow.

The winter that wouldn't quit!!!

Kristine
I have an idea...Yes a stray one pops up now and then

Now keep in mind, its an option.

This is right up the street from my house. They have a huge play yard outside but if the weather is yucky we can stay inside. I know its later then everyone wanted but just by two hours. AND its for a good cause. The downside is that I'm not sure how many people will show up and it might be crowded.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.....

We can't make it on the 13th....

(boo hoo)
The plot thickens....

I definitely can't do the 6th - agility run-thru.

13th is still basically open though Mags will miss seeing her sissy, Lizzie. The Dog Park fundraiser does sound like a nice idea for socialization purposes more so than running themselves silly, but on the plus side a lot less muddy!!!

Back to Doreen...

(or are we fated not to be able to pull this off before after 'palooza??!!  )

Kristine
The 13th works for me. 4-7. Sounds great. I would vote to go at the beginning just in case it does get crowded. Barkley gets along pretty well with most dogs but sometimes they don't like him for some reason.
With them having both the indoor and outdoor areas, it can usually accomodate a large number of dogs. Plus, I've heard the owner of that particular daycare is fantastic.
Let's give it a go and if something comes up at least we can confidently say that we will see each other at sheepiepalloza for 3-4 solid days.
How many sheepies are you bringing to sheepiepalloza (kristine)????

Eh, do I have to declare a number? Depends who else is going, who might have an extra pair of hands and how many OES you can fit in an Volvo station wagon.... I actually had five dogs with me to the nationals last year, plus both breed and performance gear. Don't ask 8O

One went home with her breeder and a friend also dropped a dog off for somebody, so she had room in her van and took Mad back for me. It was "interesting".

Timing sounds good on the play date - I'll spread the word.

One of our local rescue people (hopefully you'll meet her, though she does work some Sundays) found a doggie day care/training center close to both of us that has a private dog park. It's only about 1 1/2 acres, but it's fully fenced, it's close, open dawn to dusk and you just pay an annual membership fee. She called me this morning and by 11 am we were both members and her rescue dog, Sadie, was busy playing with Liz, Che and Sybil. They were in heaven.

Yes, it was muddy, with a nice big pond in the middle which Sadie ran through with Liz in hot pursuit. The drive home was "interesting"  Ah, but so worth it.

Now off to bathe dogs...

Kristine
Doreen, I talked with Mary(from work) and she said they can make the 13th. Her words"just tell us where and when and we'll be there". So thats one more sheepie. I asked her about Sheepiepalozza and their daughter is graduating that weekend so I 'guess' that means they won't be there.
So, we are on for the 13th. Sounds great. I can't wait to see all of you. Doreen
Pam, sounds great that Mary can make it.
Kristine, no you do not have to declare a number of sheepies.... I was just curious.
We are probably going to rent a mini van again this year....so roomy.
If we do, we could potentially steal a sheepie for the ride home. Maybe one of the rescues...hmmmmmm
Doreen
The weather was a bit cool, but those of us that made it to the spring playdate had lots of sheepie craziness. It was nice to see the event was supporting local dogparks. Barkley, Gar and Simon romped around. I'm starting to think that agility isn't out of the question for Barkley, as he loved the ramp and wouldn't stop going up and down it.
Doreen
Where are the pictures & stories so the rest of us can pretend we were there, too?? :D
