Need your help on market reserach for my school project

It's really a 2-part question, let's see if I can make the choices right! Basically I am interested to know if anyone would buy frozen TV dinners made for dogs. Please don't think of the price as a factor at this point when deciding.

If this type of poll is not allowed, Ron can remove it.

I am in MBA school and we are doing market research for a new product. I thought it would be neat to do something with dog food! Where else can I get an honest opinion other than here?

Thanks!
Karole

For us, no to frozen food. Our freezer is full enough with just meats and leftovers that I can't imagine how much room a large dog would take up. In fact, to feed Yuki for a month which is how long a food should AT LEAST last for me to buy it... she would need her own freezer. jmho :)

However, my husband and I have always talked about wanting a dog food that was a bone. Something she really had to work into to eat ...not just a "biscuit." That, to me, would be a brilliant product for our dog who doesn't chew and needs help with her teeth.
Wow great insight. My fridge is always empty so I don't care if I stuff my freezer with frozen dog food LOL. I guess someone with less space in the freezer would need to shop almost every week (if not more). What if the frozen food is for special occasions? But I guess dogs don't take change of diet well. Or if the frozen food portion is small, and supplement to the dry food. Would that work?

I see your idea, do you mean a bone like (like Nylonbone for chewing) material has all the nutritions that a dog needs? My dog doesn't like to chew anything that's good for his teeth, but he likes pig ears (bad breath).

Thanks for all your help. If by any tiny chances we actually can make a prototype, I will send you a few!

Karole
I voted, Yes and that I would buy it.

This is kind of a fake yes because I currently feed Izzie a raw diet. I do, however, buy some pre-ground raw mixes that I feed sometimes for the convenience.
I would buy frozen dog food if it was healthy. Better than my dry dog food that is. Many folks that raw feed buy it frozen for a month. I would buy for a month I have three dogs to feed and feed twice a day I looked at my bag of dog food and imagined six servings x 30 = 180 frozen dinners so to speak I guess it would take up a lot of room in the freezer so might have to buy every 15 days. Better yet have it delivered every 15 days We are not thinking of price for now right? Hey if I could get healthy good frozen food devevered for my family I would do it to!! Hope this helps I may have confused things a bit......

When we went raw we did buy a freezer...mostly for Izzie. She gets 2/3 of the space and we get 1/3. Even before going raw we had been wanting more freezer space for us.
Since we're speaking hypothetically here, I voted yes. I would buy a frozen dinner for my dogs if it were as good as or better than my current dry kibble.

That said, I do not have the freezer space, either, to buy enough for them for the same amount of time that a bag of kibble lasts (approx 2 1/2 weeks). I'd have to shop more often or that delivery option sounds appealing.
I voted no and no because we are happy with out food at the moment and wouldn't want to upset the apple cart.

If I had to make a change I would consider it.
I'm sure you'd need an idiot label on your package too. You know.. be sure to set aside for X minutes before serving. I can just see so many pets coming in with burnt mouths b/c owners give it to the dog right out of the microwave.

Also, I would wonder what sort of container it would come in. Owners may leave their food down and their dog eats the container it came in. I'm always concerned about the trays many foods come in and if any of it melts into the food although I'm sure companies are being more careful about stuff like that. Ex: Even though you're supposed to heat hot water up and then put it in those ramen noodle packages, I've never seen a korean when I lived in asia do that. They always stuck the whole styrofoam thingy in the microwave no matter the warnings not to.

LOL I can see you being a good safety inspector! I wonder if refrigerated food would be better than frozen? That way we don't need to heat up the food too much (less hot). My project is getting longer!

What we have learned in school is that it's hard to introduce a new product, since it's a challenge to change people's buying habit (perception, etc), and the distribution is difficult (unless I have lots of money!).

To all, anything you would like to see that would improve your pet's life? Ah, you gotta love school, where they let you think of crazy things and not making fun of you :p
Sowry!! You asked  :P
Oh no, they already have the food that shapes like bones!
Search for wholemeals.

But not sure if it's all healthy....
Based on all of Oscar's digestive and allergy issues, I may have to start cooking for him soon anyway. Let's see....between running Oscar to the vet, the holistic vet (where he gets massages), the chiropractor and the groomer, who the hell has time to cook?!

It's a good thing we don't have kids, because I have no time or energy for them after caring for the dog! 8)

hmmmm :lmt: new cookbook idea.....crockpot meals for dogs 8)
I voted yes although I think at some point price becomes an issue. I could see me buying for a special occasion or an ill dog to tempt them to eat. I currently use about 35/40 lbs of food a week, to translate that into frozen dinners hurts my brain :D
I voted no because we don't ever buy frozen meals or chilled microwave meals for ourselves. Just don't like the idea of microwave food (unless it's popcorn! We have our microwave just for that!)

It's so easy to feed him with food straight from the bag, instead of heating anything up. If I had to change food, I would try to stick to quick and easy things, either out of a bag, box, or can!

I love the idea of a recipe book for dogs- go ahead and make that!!
We would like that even if we only used it for birthdays etc, or maybe recipes for when your dog is ill or something?

I think with sheepies it's best to find 1 type of food and stick to it as they can have very sensitive stomachs.

Something I would love for my dog is like an activities thing, like a huge toy with all sorts of different things for him to play with while I'm out. With maybe a thing so he can play tug, fetch (maybe he stands on a certain place and a ball comes out like on flyball) and a treat dispenser, like it releases a treat when he does something...
But maybe people would think "oh I can leave my dog for ages because he has one of these" so maybe it's a bad idea after all

Good luck with the project!!
