Ears!

Summers ears, well just one, was a bit smelly so I had been putting in ear powder. Yesterday I noticed she had like a small ball of hair in her ear, it was firmly attached! Looking in the other ear for guidance we decided it was a waxy matted lump of hair! Yuck. So several times today I have tried to tease the matt out, with her scratching her ear and my hand to help. I managed to get my thumb and forefinger under the matt, and it just came out in my fingers. So how can I stop this happening again I have looked at the ear cleaning bit on the forum, but I find it hard to grasp the hair....

There are these things that look like scissors BUT are not they start with a H. Doctors use these. You grap some hair with this thing and it locks so no slipping and give a fast pull, and keep doing this until hair is gone. My husband does this while I hold the dogs, I swear they have hair that goes to their brains. Hopefully someone knows the name of these !
Hemostats? Don't know if this the proper way but I've seen groomers do it: generously powder the ear, twist hair with fingers, grasp end of hair with hemostats and turn them gently. This removes the hair without yanking, it eases it out and causes less pain.
Ok I will look into these thingies next time I go to wholesalers. The hair I got out today must have been rooted somewhere near her toes.... 8O 8O
