We always shaved down Winston, our swim-aholic OES, twice a year. He hated grooming and not only was shaving cheaper than paying for a groom, it made more sense.
Even on a coat trimmed short, burrs and mud got in his hair. And he could really fling that dirty water around! We really learned to love 'nekkid' sheepies because of Winston! ![]() Shave him down in the next month or two and he'll have enough hair grown back so he won't be at risk for sunburn this summer. |
I say cut then down ... water all the time equals matts or lots of brushing. |
I shave mine for the summer. They spends lots of time in the pool on a daily basis. Grooming would be a nightmare if I didn't. |
I would shave the sheepie down if he is in the water a lot....like the for mentioned said " a nightmare" to try and keep the matts out when a regular swimmer. I keep Violet in long hair all year long and I live in Florida, but if she was swimming a lot, I would cut her down also. |
Clip em down! I know of a few, very few, who can keep their's in long coat and still let them into the swimming pool, but there's a force dryer on the patio along with a groom table to dry and comb them out. Once wet those clumps want to form immediately. I know, MO is in the sprinklers already as well as the flooded orchard. She carries a bucket of sand/dirt in her coat when wet along with all the twigs, grass, etc. She gets her trim next month.......if I can wait that long. |
