I signed the contract yesterday but they asked me to wait a day before posting the information because our group is not in the system yet. I checked in with them today and they said the gal who does that will be in on Monday. I will double check with her on Monday to make sure she picked up all the people who registered over the weekend.

I will post a count after the weekend.

Judi, do you know if it's $25 per dog or for all dogs in the room?
Great! Thanks, Judi! So we'll wait until Monday to call them.

It is a flat $25 charge for your entire stay for all your dogs - just no more than 4 per room.
Hey, any updates on what time we should call to reserve rooms?
I went ahead and made my reservation. The lady I spoke to said she had it in the system.
Our reservations have been made to check-in Fri, May 23 and check-out Tues May 27. I'm so excited!
I have also made our reservations at the Diamond Inn. WhooHoo!!!! When I asked the lady on the phone to put us in a room near the SheepiePalooza group - she said it shouldn't be an issue. At the rate we were all calling for reservations, the hotel would more than likely be entirely booked by SheepiePalooza people that weekend.
I located more pictures of the hotel. Here's an Expedia link:

Thanks Stacy. At least that gives people an idea.

Here is who they have registered with our group at this time:

Cindy (4dognight)
Nita (Maggie McGee IV)
Pam (Simon's Mom)
Stephanie (sneakysheepie)
Stacy (Stacy)
Wynette (BatonRougeSheepies)

If you have registered already and I don't have you on this list then PM me and I will double check with my contact that you are listed as part of the group.

If you register after this post - just reply to this thread so I can make sure you are listed within the group. I will be checking every week or so.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you. Brochures will be going out in the mail the beginning of next week.
I'm in. I just called and booked.
I just booked us here. Me, Karen, and Ralph. We're looking forward to meeting everyone f-t-f.
Hi All,
I just made my hotel reservation, even though I am not sure I can attend. I am supposed to be returning from Africa on May 18th and I am really hoping the date holds firm! I will drive from NY this year so I can bring at least one sheepie with me. Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year (this time with my own sheepie).
Kathie
I just made my reservation too!
Myself, Chewie and Simon are in. :D :D

I still need confirmation from work that I have the time off.... as well as the week before that we are driving out to NY and back for daughter Lisa's graduation. Nothing like a bit of stress. The 2 fall in our annual window period, so they have until April 15th to let us know if we get our vacation requests for the whole year.....ugghhh!
If they deny me with my almost 19 yrs of seniority I will be looking for a new job!!
Judi is it okay to bring kids to this event? My SO can't get off work, so I was thinking of bringing my niece (9 years old) along to keep me company on the long drive. :?
Yes kids are definitely welcome. Not a lot attend but we did have some last year and they seem to love the dogs.
There was at least one little girl there last year, a real cutie at that! She LOVED the dogs!

Image
Great! Thanks! She's a great kid and loves dogs, so I'm sure she'll be fine. Just wanted to be sure it was all right to bring her. I'll talk to her Mom and see if she can miss school.
I have finally made our reservation at the Diamond Inn. Barkley, Dolan, Christopher and I will again be in attendance this year from friday to monday. Dolan, our 16 month old son loved seeing the sheepies last year at 6mos so I'm sure it will be even more exciting this year. Barkley personally cannot wait to run with the pack.
Doreen
I have made our reservations!!!!!! Now I'm so excited. We will be checking in on Saturday, my son's graduation is Friday night. I think we are bringing everybody, meaning Frank, Daphne and Daisy.!!! :excited: :yay: :go:
I got my vacation approved!
My reservations are for Friday night to Monday morning. :D

Yipeee!!!
All right....it's official...I'm in! I made my reservations this morning and I'll be sending in my registration today. Wooohooooo!!! :excited:
Me too! My registration has made it into an envelope and will be mailed out on Monday! OMG! I can't believe we're actually coming up. I'm so excited!
I'm In!!!!!!!!! :yay:

I just couldn't get Adam to commit, and I couldn't get a read on him about how he felt on the subject. So I asked a girlfriend if she wanted to come with me, and Adam was like "Wha-? I want to go!" and then her boyfriend wanted to come... so we have a group making the treck!:excited:

I'm going to book the hotel tonight, and will mail my registration check tomorrow.

BUT... I have a question for everyone.

I've been wanting to get Luna and Tonks involved in Agility. They've done some stuff while playing that has led me to believe that they'd really enjoy it. I see on the application that Sub-novice is open to dogs that have never done it before. But I've read that puppies under a certain age shouldn't do alot of the jumps. So... I guess what I'm asking for is some feedback from all you more-experienced Sheepie owners. Do I sign them up or not? I jsut thought it would be a great opportunity to see if they DO like it, before I enroll them in a class.

thanks!
Looking forward to entertaining y'all Friday evening at the warm up bash at my house. Last year we had 13 sheepies in the back yard; looks like we might double that this year.
I can't wait I think I was the first to book my hotel and I have sent in my paperwork!! Pray for sunshine 8)
Yes, by all means, pray for sunshine!! 8)

George - we're so looking forward to romping in your backyard with all the other sheepies!! :P
Hello Everyone! I have just confirmed my reservations for the hotel and Arthur, Matisse and I will be attending.....

We will see everyone on Friday!! This is our first year attending, and I'm quite excited to be able to attend.....
:excited:

Michelina~
Hey that's great news, Mich!! I can't wait to see y'all again!! This is going to be such FUN!! :excited:
I CAN'T WAIT!

Of course my friends & family (not anyone on the forum) think I'm goofy for driving all that way for a sheepie event. I need more IL friends who get as excited as me about their dog. Actually I do have one but we don't get together very often. Oh I wish more of you lived nearby!

Foz just got a haircut but I think he'll need another one before we head out to St Louis. That way he will get messy, dirty, matted, and Steve can clean him up much easier that way./

I'm so surprised at how many of you drive such a long way. I think I may be taking a sleeping pill for the drive up :D Steve thought it might be a good idea so that I wouldn't complain the whole way and so that I wouldn't mind his music :D I'll wear an eye mask and drool so that noone will be interested in me when he and Foz stop at the rest stops. Gosh, I'm weird!

Oh yea, we will be staying from Friday through Tuesday. Judi, will there still be doggie day care avail on Monday?

Did I metion how excited I am to meet all of you???!!!!! I may be a little out of sorts on Friday (see above).
I just googled your trip - only 300 miles Phew that's nothing. Marley and I drove almost that far after work on Friday to Mandy's :D :D

My husband thinks I am certifiable. Its over 1,000 mile trip for me and I am driving out on Friday and back on Monday - I may be totally incoherent on Saturday. But I can't wait either.
Stacy....

We will be having doggy day care on Monday..(while suppies last...  (the supply of doggy day care club members....)) I am sure Judi will be replying with details ...but I didn't want you waiting for an answer....

Thanks, Val! Judi had emailed me last week and was glad I had asked. I think she was confirming availability of people and then would post inquiring about how many dogs were interested in day care :D
Stacy, I hear ya!! I'm going to be watching DVD's in the back,,,hahaha.....I think our trip is 14.5 hours.

You are too funny. I do the same thing at the gas stops, were I look like a "rag muffin" (what my mother calls it), so no one bothers me in an area I'm not familiar with when we stop....

hahaha!!

If you are weird, then I'm weird too....
I'M BOOKED!!!! :yay:
Hey, I'm from California... and I'm flying in for the Palooza... meeting up with Jil and Bentley... I will be getting into the St Louis airport around 2pm on Friday... anyone willing to help me get near to the hotel or tell me about public transport in St Louis???? any information will be welcome. Jil will not be arriving from Michigan till around 6pm and that would mean I have a few hours to kill at the airport... Suggestions, ideas.... anyone
Someone from the club would be glad to pick you up that day. If you would just e-mail the club at sheepies@stloes.org with your flight information then we will be waiting for you. We will e-mail you back that we received it so you know for sure.

Judi
Wow, that is just awesome. I will do exactly that. I was going to try to use public to get someplace away from the airport to wait for Jil, but if she can just get to the Hotel and not worry about me, it would be nice for her as well as me.

Thanks Judi, you guys have this really well organized... I guess you've had a little experience at it.
I CAN"T WAIT! I'm insanely busy at work so I haven't had much time to catch up. I still can't believe how many people are coming in town!

Judi, you guys are fantastic!
I checked mapquest today and it's 1,022 miles......that means...extra dvds for the ride and a few extra catnaps...lol

I'm quite excited to meet everyone!! :D

Michelina~
Michelina, are you gonna drive home afterwards, or take a right and head for New England?

Soooo, you'll be 3 weeks early. Who's counting?
lol.... I wish I could take a right and head up to MA and stay for a few weeks!!! We're driving back home from St. Louis and leaving Florida once again on the 5th of June for NJ to visit relatives, and from there to MA. That journey all together from MA to FL is just about 26 hours....that is the ONLY ride I'm not looking forward to....

But seeing everyone again, and all of my sheepie friends and their uprights is very much worth it, paws down!!

You can never have enough OES in your life.....haha!

Michelina~
Ahem, NJ to MA puts you in Pennsylvania!!
Maxmm wrote:

This is very true..... :D
guess that depends on where in NJ cause on my map it puts you in NY.
Umm... hellooooo?

It puts her in Massachusetts!
eventually 8)
does any one know if the hotel requires crates be used for dogs in the room...?
Most hotels that I have stayed in do require a crate.....I honestly don't know, but we're bringing our crates.
i only have one crate... and they no longer both fit into it!
REALLY??? I didn't even think about it as I doubt Foz will ever go in one again. I'm thinking more the bed :D
We always travel with crates, but the wigglebums sleep in them at home, too, so it's easier to bring with - that way they have their own "room" no matter where we are. I don't know what the hotel regs are though. :lmt:
I just called the Diamond Inn about the crate question - Crates are not required when you are in the room with your Sheepie(s) - but suggested. She said the hotel is surrounded by highways and they suggest crates since dogs can slip out of the room. Anyway, the only time a crate is required is when you aren't in the room -

See you at Sheepiepalooza!!!!!!!

same here
I guarantee you, the hotel would have been a lot sorrier if I had to crate Clyde than if I left him loose, lol. You'd all be able to hear him no matter where you were in the hotel if we tried to crate him!
I am not leaving Guinness in the room or anywhere else alone!!!! He will be with me at all times I have always done that Except at harrisburg grooming and I left him with bogart and when we returned that was a message our dogs were barking for over an hour
Bringing 4 sheepies with me - if I brought crates for all of them along with the folding chairs, suitcases, dog blow dryer, food, etc... not sure there would be room enough for the dogs.  I am guessing with the amount of sheepies coming in that you won't be able to tell which room the barking is coming from.

P.S. If anyone is looking to possibly adopt another sheepie - Rodney will be with us and he is available to be adopted.
BatonRougeSheepies wrote:

Folding chairs - I hadn't even thought about bringing those - good idea. This is our first sheepie event ever and I have no idea what to bring - any suggestions would be appreciated.
Those folding camping style chairs and portable water bowls, and wet wipes are a must!!! A lot of times you will have a thirsty OES....sometimes they can have runny stool too so wet wipes and small hand towels are great for that. I always find that bringing a case of bottled water is useful too. It always comes in handy throughout any trip if you are traveling...... I hate searching the hotels for vending machines so we bring our own beverages wherever we go.

poo poo bags, small hand towels, wet wipes, portable dog bowls (fold down fabric ones) and treats along with two bottles of water is in my doggy bag at all times!!! Dunno if this helps anyone....

As far as the blankets and stuff like that, I've seen people bringing their own picnic blankets to sprawl out on with their families.....But I've never attended SheepiePalooza so um....I dunno what to expect.....lol

Is there anyone that has been that can offer advice ?

Michelina~
We travel with so much stuff, it's comical. Like you, Mich, I keep a doggie bag packed with essentials in the car at all times. I've got food, water bottles, bowls, treats, towels, extra leashes & collars, baby wipes, bushes, comb and poop bags in there. And there's a big comforter in the back of the Highlander that they lie down on, too.

Then, when we go on a road trip, I bring their crates, those folding camp chairs for the uprights, bottled water for the dogs, more food (I use a small cooler to transport the dry dog food), any grooming tools we might need, a cooler for me with drinks & snacks and any miscellaneous dog stuff I might want to add in (like this trip we're bringing the backpacks so someone can teach me how to put them on the wigglebums!! )

I'm very TYPE A, so ridiculously organized. As such, I think I've actually got an excel sheet check list if anyone wants to consult it, PM me your e-mail addy & I'll share it with you. :)

Well dan is insiting I bring his larger car rather than my RAV, do you think he would notice one more black and white dog?

Once you have more than two - and even then...I've found an x-pen can be wonderfully helpful. Certainly it's easier to pack. Think of it as a folding playpen for dogs. I can fit four in one easily but my girls are small.

As for the barking - let's police ourselves a bit. Hotels that accept dogs are getting harder and harder to find and this once sounds so dog friendly. Let's not be the group that spoils it for everyone else   I mean, it'll be bad enough when the hotel staff gets a load of all that hair 8O

Also always bring spare bags to pick up after your dog and the inevitable people who don't. Yeah - it's not your dog's waste, but, again, would be great to be able to use this hotel next year too :D

Standard procedure when you watch somebody's dog take a dump and then the owner walks away without a second glance, you helpfully trot up and offer them one of your spare bags to save the trip back to ...<?>...to get one. So nice of you!!

Also, dogs who must lift their legs should not be allowed to do so on ornamental bushes, trash cans, other people's cars, walls, your husband (publically, at least) - even if you're in the middle of a fight - you get the picture. What they do on, or in!, your own car is your own business

Yeah, I know I'm preaching to the choir, halos and all. But keep in mind that if we're are the main group there, everything Joe Blow's passing Fluffy does will get blamed on us, so better to be on our best behavior.

Now to explain this concept to Sybil.... :lmt:

I'm bringing two friends that are currently dogless, but love dogs and especially have come to love my Tonks and Luna. Maybe we can work on them, and get them to adopt Rodney!!!!

LMAO!!!! That is me to a T - How funny is that!!!

I always pak the xpen too. it goes in the car under the folded soft crates and a blanket and they lie on top of it. SOmetimes it doesn't come out of the car, other times I have found it really useful. I am sure Dan is going to wonder where it went while I am gone becuase we use it in the garage as well when we have a wet dog or three.
