Bella is having surgery today

OK...I know it is minor, but anethesia is always a risk. Bella had a subaceous cyst burst and it got infected. I took her in today (I didn't feed her just in case) and my vet want's to remove it. So I pick her up this afternoon. She is also having her teeth cleaned. She needs to lose some weight...the anethesia cost almost as much as the surgery procedure with her weighing 91 lbs on their scale. Yikes! No wonder it hurts so much when she steps on my bare feet.

I just hate leaving her anywhere...I am such a softie for those big brown eyes. :(

she will be fine, we can not help it but worry. I have to wonder how much mine weight!!!
Goodness - she weighs 91 lbs? She's a big girl. :D

I hope all goes well. Good idea to have everything done since she's going to be under anyway, might as well do it all at once.
Good thoughts going to you from us....

Give Auntie Bella a big sheepie kiss and furry hug from Heart :hearts: .....

Let us know how she is doing.......
Good luck Bella!

With those newly cleaned teeth maybe you won't want to eat so much, and you'll be doing a lot of smiling!

CHEESE! :D
Paws crossed for Bella!! She will do fine. No matter how small the procedure...it's hard not to worry. She's going to have some beautiful Pearly White's too.

Please let us know how she does.

Give her a :ghug: from us!

T.
She'll be fine! :ghug:

She'll have a nice clean mouth too. 8)
Yeah, that cyst needs to be cleaned out well. It's dangerous is broke, don't want blood poisoning. Clean teeth!
Good luck to Bella!! :D :D

We had one burst years ago on our Basset Daisy. It was quite a scar, but it healed perfect and we never had any more trouble with them. I hope the same for Bella girl.
I trust my vet...been with him for 20+ years. I am sure she will be ok...just got to keep Nigel from bugging her.

I am also thinking of switching to Blue Buffalo food. They have it at Petsmart and it meets all my criteria...no glutens, corn, soy, wheat. I will have to get light and regular. Anyone out there using it?
hope bella is doing ok keep us posted
Any news?
I am leaving in 5 minutes to go and get her. They only call me if there is a problem...and no calls. I will let you know how she is when we get back and settled...groggy I will bet.
Big hugs and kisses to Bella!
OK. We are back. She is groggy and Nigel wants to play with her. She is trying to melt into me. They showed me the cyst...it was as big as small apricot. I don't know why he saved it, except my vet is funny that way sometimes. I guess he thought I would want to see it. Yuck.

Anyway...she is ok. She is wearing one of Phil's Raiders shirts so Nigel won't lick the incision. Thanks for all the concern. This is a great place to be. :hearts:
Wow.....that's a big cyst! 8O

I'm so glad she did ok and is home with her mom so that she can get some extra special belly rubs tonight. :P

YAY Bella.....you did good!!! :cheer:

Thanks for the update Wendy.

T.
That is good news. I laugh about the shirt and Nigel. Same thing here. Chewie was always trying to lick foster Bubba boy's incisions too.
Can you post a picture of the cyst? Did you take one?
Eww...no. I left it at the vets office. It was all encapsulated, just bust open at the skin. It was gross enough just to see it...let alone take a picture.

There is no way to keep her from scratching at it though. I put socks on her back feet and she is wearing the t-shirt. I am worried she will tear out a staple. She did make it bleed a little. I know a collar wouldn't work because it is on her shoulder. My vet uses a laser.

Nigel sure missed his big sister while she was gone today...doesn't get why she doesn't want to play. :D
So glad Bella is home getting alot of TLC from you and Nigel...Poor baby!!
Bella is feeling better today. She really didn't act herself yesterday and I suspect it was from the anesthesia. She ate her meals, but lie down in strange places for her. Last night/this morning I woke to the sounds of her barfing. There I am at 3:30 in the morning cleaning that up. She gave me this look like "I know I am not supposed to do THAT in the house".

I was getting a little concerned...and Nigel was worried about her too. When she was laying down he came over and gave her his "baby"...his grunty sheep from pet edge that he sleeps with. It was so sweet!!

She seems better today...even starting to play. I just gave her a half a meal this morning. I am sure she will feel even better when she doesn't have to wear the Raiders t-shirt...lol...even she is embarassed.

Thanks guys...you are the best!!! :D
Ok, being from Denver, I just can't resist. Bella doesn't feel well because she's in a Raider's shirt!!!!! Even the Chiefs would be better than that!!

Hope she's doing much better today. We may disagree on football, but we'll agree on dogs.

Hugs from us. :ghug:
Hey...it's my husband's shirt! I don't even like football much...but I pick the Colts! Didn't want to get my jersey bloody though.

Because she likes disgusting things

Glad Bella's on the mend :)
I do have a cyst and cyst popping obsession. We all like different things. Remember, we're all neighbors drinking tea here and I'm just making conversation. :)
True, but what's in your tea besides tea :?:
My poor girl is so uncomfortable...I had to take her back and get some pain meds. She is obviously in pain and when I try to check the incision under her shirt she lays down on it. She is also getting a little mouthy when I try to check. I know this isn't typical for her so I am warning every family member to be careful around her. Still doesn't miss a meal or a cookie though.

I am sure it will ease up in a few days...I just hate seeing her like this. I wish I could take it away. She was sure glad when I took her back with me from the vets...I think she thought I would leave her again.

Maybe it's just wearing my husband's Raiders t-shirts that is making her so mad.
Awwww....poor girl!! I hope the pain med's help her.
:ghug: I hope she feels better really soon.
Ohhh...bless her heart. I hate she's still feeling so uncomfortable. Give her hugs & kisses from me & the wigglebums.
Bella is still working on healing. She feels fine, but I think she may have scratched out a few staples. She is going to the vet tomorrow to have him look at it. The staples are supposed to come out Friday...but it still looks pretty gross to me. I have included a picture of her in the preventative t-shirt. I just think this shirt is funny on her.

This is my misfit!!!
 Love the shirt!! Hope she's healing okay.
Hope Bella is feeling better soon. Cute t-shirt!
Love her t-shirt.....she's the cutest misfit I've ever seen!! I like the length of her hair.

Hope she gets a good report at the vets on Firday too.

Unfortunately she will need to be shaved after this...the t-shirt has matted her fur beyond my ability to comb it through. I can leave her head fluffy though. She feels fine...I am just concerned the the wound is still wet and not totally scabbed over.
Ok. The vet had to resuture the incision. I didn't want to put her under again, so I talked him into just sedating her and cleaning and restitching it.

Now we have another 10 days before the stitches come out. I need to get her shaved maybe even before as she is so matted from the t-shirt. I am going to call my groomer and ask about it.

He even gave me sedatives in case she starts to scratch at it again, and antibiotics this time. She was a really good girl while he restiched it though...I knew she would be.
Thats sucks that she needs the stitches for another 10 days. :(
Also about the shaving, but I am sure she'll enjoy a nice short cut with the warm weather.
Hoping she heals very quickly!!
Ok miss Bella.......you better leave those stitch's alone this time!!

It should heal alot quicker now with the antibiotic's. Keeping my fingers crossed.

T.
Hi Wendy.....just checking to see how Bella's stitches are holding up this time around? I hope she's leaving them alone.

I have had her sedated for the past 3 days...they are fine. I am getting her shaved tomorrow without a bath because the t-shirt has her so matted. If we can bathe her without wetting the incision...then we will. These are thread sutures...so they seem to be holding up much better than the staples. She is also on antibiotics now too. I am sure she will be fine now.
:D
The only thing I might add to help....is a Steeler's shirt :D
Seriously, shaving her down will help. Hair can be a good medium for bacterial growth, esp. when we're trying to keep it dry for wound care.

OR....a Denver Bronco's jersey!! :)
The reason she is wearing my husbands Raiders shirts is I don't care if they get yucky. :D I think the wound looks and feels so much better the second stitching.
Yaaaayyyy....that's good news!!

T.
:lmt: Nope, nope, definitely needs a Steeler's jersey
huggs from home here to Bella. I like sutures instead of staples...... and i think its a good thing the antibiotics.

As far as her weight....... ahem she can blame that on her father..... Dunk went in today to 'have his pipes cleaned' and a count done and he weighed in at 101! I was SHOCKED! Even the vet was too....... but he doesn't look it! in fact he told me his is right where he needs to be! I don't think so........... we have switched to Royal Canine large breed here from Iams (we're boycotting and they changed the formula and that was why all the poops were ....... soft poopy) I find we are feeding less and have less stools too.......

Anyways, give her huugs and kisses from us here and oh yes........ the reason for this GET HER A DENVER BRONCO SHIRT! Good grief she was born in Colorado!!!

momma Ali
It's ok Ali...she is shirtless now. :D I had my groomer shave her except for her head. We have to wait to finish her up until she can be bathed. The sutures are healing much nicer than the staples were. It looks 100% better already...they come out on Friday. I won't be posting any pictures until we get her head trimmed though...it might embarass her more.

T-shirt is a good idea for shaved/clipped dogs...bad idea on her coat. She doesn't really look that big though...maybe 10 lbs off what she should be. She really is a big girl...not so much fat. I can't wait to start her in herding...that will take it off!!!

She should have had a Denver Rockies shirt...
