Nikke the rescue is home

Nikki is now home. I drove about 2 hours to get him. He is tiny. I bet he is 35-40 pounds. he is very sweet. He was on a 3 foot chain for his whole life. He loves attention. He doesn't bark. I mean he will not bark. However when I put him in the crate he cryed the whole time. He also escaped from my 6 ft high fenced in yard. He would not come when called but did eventually came back. I think due towanting attention. He is a great dog and anyone interested please let me know!!

Hi,

Ah you're an angel for taking this boy in and makes me sad about his previous life. I hope things work out for the best in his favor as he certainly now deserves a happy life. Please keep us posted on any updates.

awwwwwwwwwww..poor little guy :( why do people have to be such cruel people?Makes me just sick when I hear about any animal being abused/negelted.I would love to put whoever had him on a 3foot chain, lets put them on a 3foot chain for their life and see how it makes them feel.
Maybe when people realize animals are God's creatures they will stop the abuse.Nothing more perfect than a big furry sheepie
Have you found a furever home for Nikki yet? Keep us posted!
Sorry this is Lucy/Thumper I didn't sign in Nikki is still with us. We had a rough start but things are getting better. He is very sweet when he is alone. In fact, he will slowly slither his way into your lap if your not paying attention. It is quite comical. He is learning to sit and come. He is getting the idea of house training. I had to crate him and it seems to be working. He was looking to lift his leg on something this evening but kept looking at me like he knew he shouldn't but didn't know what else to do. So I walked him right away and he went. I wouldn't recommend him going to a house with children or other animals. At least nothing smaller than him. He has a very strong hunting instinct. He is very intense but is slowly relaxing. I've done the "work for everything" with him. It seems to be working some. I still can't believe how tiny he is. I bet he is only 35lbs. My Lucy towers over him. He has OES fur and coloring but has the eyes and ears of a Boston Terrier. He is small like a BT> Appearently, the vet who rescued him originally had to shave him due to mats so his hair will grow out. My son gets mad when I say this but when he smiles he is so ugly he is cute. He really is adorable and just loves any kind of attention. He watches lucy and is learning how to play. It is so sad. Why do people get dogs just to neglect or abuse them. I don't understand!! It is so cruel. I've only had one call on him but she had 3 young children and I just don't trust him with little ones. Hopefully, soon he will get his forever home. I hate that in 6 years our home is the first "caring" place he has ever been. I will keep you all posted! Happy holidays!
Hi,

Just wondering how things are working out for you these days? Is it getting better? Sometimes these poor rescues are on their best behavior for a while almost as if they are terrified to misbehave then all their issues come out when they become relaxed. Ironic isn't it, that this also happens with children that have been in and out of foster homes.

It's normal for this to happen and sometimes for every step forward it's two steps backwards and then suddenly.....they get it! They start to listen, become housetrained...learn to trust. I think you are wonderful for taking him on as I know it must be difficult to do. Hang in there and lets hope this boy gets the forever home in the New Year.

Nikki is still here. We haven't had any more call about him. He is doing much better. He is more comfortable in his crate at night and is more relaxed. When my son plays with Lucy he just runs to me and watches them. I think soon he will join in on the fun. Its funny because he likes to chew on wierd stuff like plastic plates or plastic cups. If you have a glass of water and leave the room you can forget it. It will be covered with bite marks by the time you come back. We gave him a bath and he did really good. I still worry about him and watch him carefully. I was curious how he would do in situations that he didn't care for (bath) but he took it in stride. He is eating better and better. I am starting to think he is going to be here for a while but I will keep you posted!

Marianne, have you had any luck finding your little puppy? I am so sorry that happened!
Hi..I do believe rescue puppers will seek out items they have played with or chewed on in their former homes....however unusual they may be  My Miss Cassie would prefer to eat her kibble off the floor...she will take her paw & flip the dish...she does not like to put her nose down in a bowl! MY vet thinks she was probably fed on the bare dirt in her backyard! Just an idea...my 2 rescues have several quirks...who REALLY knows! Glad things are going better with Nikki...LOVE does wonders :D

Hi! Just wondering how Nikki is. And how YOU are doing as his foster mom. :)

Please keep us posted.
Happy holidays. Nikki is doing well. His teeth are fine. Even though they are broken they aren't hurting him or are infected so that is a relief. Nikki is doing much better. He finally feels comfortable in our house and trusts us and has relaxed a lot. He has discovered a little corner between my bed and the dresser and wall. It makes a triangle. The blankets and pillows fall off of my bed there and he loves that spot. He just loves it. He has this thing he does. He does a body hug it is very hard to explain. He doesn't jump up on you it is a lean/wrap around you with his head against you. It is so adorable. It would melt the coldest of hearts. It is so endearing. He has really calmed down. He is doing great. Thanks for asking. Apparently, there was someone who was interested and I think theyfilled out the application but then never called me. So go figure. It is going to get harder and harder to give him up the longer we have him. My only conern in keeping him permanently would be that I don't trust him with other dogs and don't know if I could continue to foster sheepies if we had him. but of course that might change too over time. I am so glad that someone rescued him from his chain. He is so sensitive to all noises and he is so alert/nervous it makes me think that he wasn't safe on th chain. I guess in the mountians he probalby had a lot to be scared of. I know that all dogs have much better senses than humans but his are incredible. I keep thinking he would make a fantastic working dog like they have on the shows on cable. Of course, he is 6 so he is too old problably but he would be great. Hopefully, he will find his forever home where he can be spoiled rotten the last half of his life to make up for the first half!! Take care!

Hi Allison,

I'm glad to hear Nikki is doing well. I've got a special place in my heart for him 'cause Ingrid helped me get Belle.

Our paws are crossed for him.

I'm glad to hear it is getting better! I with he was better with other dogs, because I would really consider adopting, but I have Max already. They sound very much alike, Max was not a rescue, but he was very sheltered growing up due to a sickness. So he is afraid of lots of things  . I've been considering getting him a playmate, but not quite sure yet. Keep us informed.
Shelly my question to you would be what is Maxes personality like and how old is he? If he is a very frisky little puppy than I'm afraid it might not be a good match. If you are intersted I would be happy to talk to you and answer any question you might have and go over somethings to see if it would be a good combination!

Happy Holidays!

alison
Alison,

Max is very shy at first with people and dogs, but after he is around a person or dog for sometime, yes he is nuts, jumping, running etc. He is still very much a puppy. He is 18 months old. he is mainly frisky with me and my good friends. When I take him to the dog park, he won't play with the other dogs, he just watches them from atop a picnic table. but then again we don't go that often. Does that help?
