Hello, I'm new here.

Fernie and I would like to say "Hi" to you all. :D I am a first time OES owner but can truely say I am totally converted. I have owned other breeds but I am besotted with these big hairy cushions. Fernie loves his weekend dog shows, watching TV and the camera. You can't take a pic without him getting in on the action. As with most OES he is a real character.
Hope to get to know you all soon.

Clipper I love your avatar! That's a TAIL isn't it?!!! Cool!
LOL
Welcome to the forum! :)
This must be a big weekend for new sheepie owners! We brought Bentley home yesterday. He is a 17 month old rescue dog. His story is very calm compared to other rescue dogs and we feel very lucky that his baggage isn't any bigger. My husband and I also have a 4 year old son and an 8 year old daughter. I'm looking forward to chatting with all of you and learning a lot! :)
Thank you for the welcome. My boy has just turned 2yrs old and is such a joy to own. He just bumbles his way through life. Loves meeting new people, visiting folks houses and believe it or not, he loves going to the vets. He has to get up on the table, which makes him taller than either the vet or myself. His favourite thing is to get right inside your ear and huffle at you. It really tickles. We hope to be adding to our OES family sometime next year and this new puppy will also be undocked. So there may soon be two OES with tails on the Scottish show curcuit.
Thanks again for the welcome........... I think we are going to love it here.

Welcome, Clipper! I'm fairly new to the forum myself, although we've been owned by various sheepies for 25 years. Believe me, there's ALWAYS something to learn about these furbabies. This forum is a wonderful place to get to know people and share their experiences with the most regal of breeds. No question is ever out of bounds, or too small. Glad you found us, and I'm sure you will be glad, too!
Chris
Welcome Fernie and Clipper!!

I'm Marianne from Canada and mom to Merlin, Panda and Blue. Merlin and Panda are OES and Blue is a Blue Heeler/Lab.

You'll really enjoy visiting this place and sharing ideas or suggestions and you'll find so many friendly people offering to help.

Glad you decided to visit and can't wait to hear Clipper stories.

Marianne

Fernie is beautiful! I will watch out for him in Crufts one of these years!

Congrat's, and I am happy to see a dog with a tail. I'd love to know more about that, how annoying or how easy the grooming is. Does it knock everything down? Could you imagine him without one? I'm very curious about OES with tails, I guess it comes from wondering what it's like on the other side of the fence.

Remy has no tail, we have no problems with that. I am neither for nor against tail docking by the way just curious.
Wow what a friendly bunch you all are!! Thanks to you all for taking the time to make Fernie and I feel so welcome.

Daisie, Fernies' tail is very easy to groom, just adds a wee bit longer to the grooming time. We haven't had any problems with his tail, other than swiping the odd ornament off the side tables and you have to keep a firm grip on your coffee cups. LOL But seriously he is cleaner around the rear end than some docked dogs, and has never had any trouble with his tail. We can be unfairly judged at times, if the judge is a pro-docker but that is their problem not mine. I actively sought out an undocked OES and would never own a docked specimen of any breed. I have no problem with anyone else owning them but it's just not for me. I could never imagine Fernie without his tail, this is how he was born and it just seems un-natural to chop bits of them off for no reason.

Kirsten, Fernie qualified for Crufts 2004 and went along to strut his stuff there. We didn't get a place but the fact that he was there was all that mattered. Unfortunately he didn't manage to qualify for 2005 but even if he had, I am not sure I would have taken him. The OES judge for Crufts is a member of the council for docked breeds and with the best will in the world, I don't see how she will be unbiased about a dog with a tail. That and the cost of showing him there really wouldn't have made it a viable project.
Thanks again for all your welcomes, I truely appreciate them,
Clipper and Fernie
Some of you have mentioned adding in some pics of Fernie. Can you let me know where I can do this.......... is there a special board within the forum for this??? Also, are our OES stories on their own board too??
Sorry to sound a bit dim but I don't want to make the place untidy by leaving stuff laying around in the wrong place. LOL
Please add anything else that you think will help keep me on the straight and narrow.

Dear Clipper and Fernie,

Please allow me to add my welcome as well!

Pirate, my 11 month old sheepie boy, and I live in Chicago with a Jack Russell Terrorist known lovingly as, mean ol' Molly.

Molly, who is 8, is convinced she gave birth to Pirate and bosses him around all the time.

You will love it here! The people are very warm, well informed and caring.

Glad to have you with us!
Deborah
Hi Fernie and Clipper

Love the tail .
I'm adding to my family next year and i am thinking of asking my breeder to leave the tail on.
Don't know if the household could withstand the extra breakages though

Look ast the very top of the "Pictures" forum, there's an "Announcement" there called "Posting information". It will explain how to post pictures and avatars.
Well those judges don't kno what they are missing......he is a beautiful dog. I've too considered our next dog to be one with a tail, the problem is they have to make that decision when the dog is 2 days old. They have no way of knowing which dog is the right match, and around here...they dock tails. So requesting one with doesn't give me a choice.

Anyways we all look forward to seeing more pictures.
Thank you so much for the beautiful pics of your dogs with tails. I use to have Newfoundlands and plan on getting an OES in the near future. I am partial to big, bushy tails. I live in the U.S., does anyone know of a reputable breeder who is willing to sell a puppy undocked? I realize this conflicts with the breed standard in this country. Thank you so much for any tips, I met a few Sheepies in the past few years and have become absolutely smitten with the breed.
Thank you,

Erica

Welcome to the forum and the breed! No, no reputable OES breeder in the United States or Canada would leave the tails on. But, if it's super important to you, you could always import a dog from Europe where they have already had no docking legislation forced on them. It's not something most breed people want in the United States so you'll find it becomes a pretty "hot topic" quickly!
