dog needs expensive surgery in NJ and its not affordable...

To anyone reading,
Hi all, my seven year old shepard recently lost the ability to move his back legs. He is completely healthy otherwise but cannot walk. We took him to our local animal hospital not expecting the outcome that came about. He digressed very quickly but seemed to be doing better after he was put on steroids. Sunce then, he has not gotten any worse but is still not better. The neurologist told us that he has some kind of blockage in his spinal cord that is not sending messages to his back legs. This obstruction is probably a disk herniation that neeeds surgery for which we do not have the money. This past summer, my stepdad had back surgery himself and has been out of work for eight months. Since then, we have incurred much debt. I hate to "air out my dirty laundry" but we currently have about only one thousand dollars left. For a family of four plus two dogs, we don't have much hope. With the costs for hospital stays and medicine already added, we owe the hospital over 4,000 dollars. If my dog needs surgery to be able to walk again, that will be another 6,000 dollars. With myself in college and no money in my family, we need major help. i know that this is a forum for sheep dogs but I read on this website that there is an organization that helps families pay for surgery. I am not ready to lose my dog and if he needs surgery we can't provide the money for it. After passing up surgery he will eventually lose complete loss of hind leg function and will be paralized. We will not even be able to provide the 24 hour care that he will need. If anybody knows someone who can help us PLEASE do not hesitate to let me know. Any help would be greately appreciated and if I could help anybody in any way, I would not hesitate either. If you can, please email me at macstual@shu.edu I would be forever indebted to anybody that can help. My dog is my best friend and I can't picture my life without him. Thank you for your time.

This is indeed a wonderful forum but there is a GSD forum (yes Ron I belong because I have a german shepherd) Go to GSDS.COM There is a link about how to obtain help for dogs in need or just ask. , just to list a couple. I am sorry you are faced with this problem, my beloved Savannah that went to the bridge this month had a disk problem about 8 years ago and it cost us 6,000 . Have you tried the U of PA vet school in Philly ?? My thoughts are with you.
Thank you very much for your help. I pulled up the GSDS website but it ended up being a toy train website. Would be be able to post the actual link. Thank you very much again.

Wishing you the best of luck with your search
O ok thank you very much...
I don't know if this would work for you but try this: www.eddieswheels.com. They make carts for dogs with mobility problems, in fact a german shepard is shown on their homepage. Good luck to you, I hope you find a solution.
This forum looks huge:
