Certified in Canine first aid!

I'v become certifiable!! Okay that wouldn't suprise a lot of you ..ha ha.

However, this is the canine first aid course I took last Sunday.

I'm forever taking workshops, classes or other things but this had to be one of the most well run class, I've ever had the pleasure of signing up for.

The course was put on by a former 10 year dogsquad member of the police dept. She was enthusiastic and I was really impressed the material she had available for us. The class was 8 hours and most impressive was they had ANNIE DOG DOLLS for us to use!! One for each member of the class and you know those things are expensive!

I'm the first aid person at work so am familiar with people vitals but this was to obtain a canine first aid certificate. Whooo I passed!

Learned how to perform CPR on canines (you seal the mouth and blow in their nose), plus 10 pumps to the left side of the body (for our guys- less for smaller dogs) Please note this is the same way you would perform CPR for all animals if needed but would adjust the pressure to their size - cats, bunnies, ect. Two fingers pressure is all that is needed for tiny animals just as you would do for human baby.
Learn how to check for pulse (Upper portion of the rear leg, closest to the body)
Learned how to care for protuding eyeballs, intestines or anything else that protrudes from the body in accidents - keep damp , do not attempt to put in the body, cover with plastic bag then bandage to keep plastic in place but not squish the object that is protruding.

Plus many more things which I'll post sometime in medical.

There is a three hour follow up course in 3 wks with either Blue, Merlin or Panda.

Dunno which I'll bring as gotta try the temp in the butt...and I'm sure none will volunteer to be with mom for this assignment.

Very cool!!! Congrats to you Marianne!!! :cheer: :cheer:

Sounds like a good class. I know they offer them through the Red Cross here in the US for animals. The nearest ones to me have been nearly 2 hrs away. I should really try to get to one. They sound very worthwhile.
How cool I would love to take a class like that  Congrats on passing
