Potty question-

Does anyone have any advice about the best way to get a dog to let you know that they have to go out to go potty? Gogi Bear is doing great about not going in the house as long as we take her out ever two hours or so, but about once a week she will just go in the middle of the floor. She doesn't let us know at all that she has to go potty and sometimes it will be only an hour since she last went. Like I said all in all she's great about it, but we really need her to start letting us know....especially because she will be staying with our friends for 2 weeks in May while we are on our honeymoon and we don't want any accidents!

Any suggestions? I've thought about the bell thing- has anyone had any experience with that? She starts her training classes on 3/11 and she is about 10 months old. Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bell they may ring just to go out ALL THE time, not jusdt for pee breaks. Mine are very quite about wanting out. We have a doggy door for when the weather is good free range. When it was cold Blue did paw at the door to go out. Sami will just stare at you. All I have to say does anyone have to go PEEEEEE and they run to the door if they want out. David does not say it right and they do nothing for him
I have trained the bell with Pearl my 10 year old, but I can't get Heart, the 8 month old, to do it.

Heart is fully house trained and goes "on command" with the words "potty, puppy"...I must have said potty puppy at least 300,00 times before it clicked with her. She holds it all day while I'm at work and sometimes does not go immediatly when I get home....

Just a couple of thoughts.......

Have you made sure Gogi has no medical problems such as UTI that prevents her from holding it? In theory, at 10 months, she should be able to hold it at least 6-8 hours. Is she getting enough exercise? Is Gogi high energy?

I am sure you will get some excellent suggestions and advice from other forum members.....

Good Luck and keep us posted...
