Anyone Feed SPORTSMAN????Update TIGER!!!Food Intake Concern

Does anyone here feed his/her OES puppy SPORTSMAN???

I got it from a dog supply store and the people working there told mi it's better than the common brands i can find at grocery stores.....

according to them, it's supposed to be denser and more protein and fat in them than others......

My Tiger seems like he can finish one bowl of dat within 5 mins.....(about 1.5 coffee mug size per meal and twice a day)
He loves it........

But since he's 8.5 month old now and just weigh 40+ lbs .....I am worrying about his weight and bone growth.......

Does anyone know whether dat's too much for too little for my Tiger???

And thanks to those replies from my last posting.....

Thank you for all ur concern......and I think Tiger is just small......but not Underweight/overweight.....cos i can kinda feel his rib cage but i know he's not overly thin or anything............

I think I do want him to be bigger................

And maybe due to the fact dat we are living in edmonton Canada, the winter was too cold for us to take him out to run every day......so he's not getting enough excerise.....but wat else u can do in minus 30 celus degree weather.........

I'll start taking him out from now on since the weather is turning warmer a lil........

I hope it's not too late to get him growing a little now......

From his shoulder to ground....I would say he's about 17-20 inch........
So i think it's not too petite......is it???
His weight seems to be very light tho............

I'll soon post up his picture to share with everyone who loves OES!!!

THANKS!
Much Love

You really need to talk to your Vet about all these issues. He can best determine if your dog is an appropriate weight for his height.

You cannot "make" him bigger by feeding him more, only fatter. His size to some extent is determined genetically. If he is eating what you feed him in a short amount of time it may be that you need to increase the amount you are feeding but I really think you should have him evaluated by the Vet to determine if he needs more food.

As far as what type of food to feed, you will get as many different opinions on that as there are people on the forum. My Vet advises that you not feed any food greater than 24% protein after 6 months. His theory is that a diet that is too hig in protein causes the bone growth to exceed muscle developement and can actually cause problems.

What ever you feed you want to read the label, the protein content should be around 24%, the FIRST ingredient should be meat of some kind (chicken, beef, lamb, salmon etc). There should not be alot of fillers; cereal etc.

The amount you feed has alot to do with what is in the feed. A food that has cereal or grain as it's first ingredient will require a larger amount to meet nutritional needs. You will then have a dog that poops more because of the filler.

Neither do you have to spend a huge amount of money to get good food. People who feed "designer" dog foods are spending alot of money they don't need to. I use Purina One Sensitive Systems, it's a good quality medium proced dog food that has salmon as it's main ingredient.
Thanks Tasker's Mom for ur reply.....
Well ur vet's suggestion on the protein intake does make sense.....
and I checked the sportsman I'm feeding Tiger is relatively higher in protein with 31%.....and higher fat.....higher fibre and higher moisture...now u really got mi thinking if it's actually good for my son....
Visited the vet a couple of times......she told mi tiger looks fine and happy.....and she told mi not to worry about it too much.....but u know how moms are......we over worry.....especially after comparing ur own dogs to others................
But I also realised after reading all the forum posting....some dogs actually have problem with growing too fast.....
Afterall....I guess I just want a ""Healthy"" dog instead of a "big" dog...

Tiger is a very happy dog......just dat he's the most stubborn dog i've ever seen....................
He is probably just going to be a small boy. My 9 month old is around 67 lbs. He doesn't even eat his food every day because he is picky. I feed him Canidae and would give him 4 cups a day if he would eat it. He only eats 3, and my adult girl will eat anything in sight. She is a bit overweight. Healthy is the best weight...whatever is right for his frame and age.
With you living in Edmonton, I live about 4 hours away... I buy Ancana which is made just outside of Edmonton. There are a few places that sale it in Edmonton, just google it. My dogs love it and there is lots of different types. I buy Large breed puppy it has the right break down and I think I pay $47.00 for 33lbs bag. I have also used the salmon one as a treat I mix a bit. THEY really like it. Google Acana read up on it. I A few people I know got their dogs on it because of allergys and are also doing great. The Orijn they also make more $$$ but I think it is to high in protein.
