You can try petfinders.com

A lot of the rescues put their pups up there.

This is something that I have been thinking about starting. Just need some time to get going.
I think it is a great idea...all the rescues could have a common site. It's the ones outside OES rescue that fall through the cracks...those may be tough.
That's pretty much petfinders at the moment.

I'd be willing to host such independent of this one or as a section of oes.org, but I would be completely flabbergasted if you could get most (never mind ALL) rescues to participate, especially the largest.
What I was thinking would be relatively simple. Just a page with a listing of names and locations that link to the individual rescue sites. It would take some time to populate the list but once it is up it is a just a matter of maintaining it.

I bought a domain name for it a few weeks ago, but have been so busy at work I haven't had time to get started.
Even if Ron were to host a list of rescue dogs available is it not going to be a complete listing of OES across the country. As it would not include all the dogs is shelters and rescue groups that are not specifically OES rescues.
That is one of the reason I am a fan of petfinders.
Just do a search and all the OES that are available through various agencies are listed. Of course this is not a totally complete list as not all shelters or rescues use petfinders.
I know that a lot of the individual SPCA Shelters utlize Pet Harbor's website.
I believe with pet harbor you have to search by specific shelters and do not have the option to search all shelters in the US.
They only list the shelters in the area you request.
A search by breed nationwide would be a good option for them to add... Instead of having to look through every shelter listing, which would take FOREVER.

Sounds like a great idea.
Petfinder has been an absolute godsend but you must be a rescue or shelter to post a dog in need of a home (except for the classifieds). I had sent this to Grannie Annie the other day. An idea for a site that deals strictly with sheepies in trouble or need of assistance... ONE central location.

A page where people could submit OESs in trouble that uses a form something like this-
http://www.untilyoufindme.com/oes-assis ... ested.html

Shelters, A/C, rescues and even owners can be bombarded with emails and calls about the same dog. While everyone has good intentions, it takes time to discuss or reply to all the inquiries... shelters have other deserving dogs in need of their attention. All the calls can be a nuisance and there can be a lot of confusion if too many people are involved. The person receiving the info would direct dog's info to the appropriate rescue.

The rescue would submit a form with a quick follow-up about the dog reported. Something like this...
http://untilyoufindme.com/rescue-reply.html

Finally, an update page were all the OESs that are being looked into are posted so everyone would know. I think this can be one of the most important pages because it would prevent the same dog from being reported/called about numerous times.
http://untilyoufindme.com/OES-Already-Reported.htm

Just an idea for what it's worth... kinks to work out and whoever did it would have to be 110% reliable and quick in directing dogs in trouble to the right rescue.
Those are great Jaci...if only we could find people to handle all the info.
Many rescues are very territorial. They have their own rules and their own area they cover. To centralize this would mean the rescue would relinquish control over the dog..........and one of their biggest points is the dog's placement, that it must go to an approved home: one where the future owners have been interviewed and the home inspected. It is this dedication to controlling the dog that keeps the animals from ending up in research labs, dog fight training facilities as bait, abusive home, neglectful homes.

There are not enough volunteers doing the work now, how would you get volunteers to do home inspections throughout the country? Transport the dogs?, Check backs? Control the website? Ron is spoken for here

Petfinder is doing a good job. Those rescues and shelters that have the time and knowledge to use it, have surely resulted in adoptions....hopefully to approved homes.

NEOESR.org does allow posting from other rescues if the rescues are willing. Not all of them are.
Gads... NOT centralizing the rescues. That would NEVER work in a million years. 8O

Centralizing the INFORMATION of what OESs are available, where and how to report dogs in trouble, what dogs rescues already know about, etc.

There already are a few lists out there with OES rescues listed along with links to their websites.

That would be a godsend, Jaci. Prevent the mess we keep seeing on OES-L where either 15 people jump on it, or nobody.

Loved your sample submissions.

Didn't someone already volunteer to do coordinate this nationally?

WI would participate if it was set up along the lines of what you're proposing. Smooth, easy, smart!!

Nice

I remember reading some talk about it a while back but I'm not sure who is actually in the group. I was asked over the weekend for some input on how to channel the energy and passion and wondered if this might help.

It seems all it would take is maybe 2 volunteers (one and a backup) with basic website building knowledge, a domain name/hosting company, internet access and an email account. Along with the forms, pop in a link to the OES on Petfinder. They could keep it basic or make it as detailed as they wanted.

If the volunteer emailed info on a dog to the appropriate rescue, the volunteer could "request a read receipt" to ensure it was delivered. All it takes is a second for the rescue to click the button before it's read. It would acknowledge that the rescue received/saw the info. Then the rescue could follow up with an update in whatever time frame rescues feel is reasonable/prudent.

It just seems that it might help to cut down on unnecessary calls/emails... and help to reduce the frustration rescues, shelters, A/C and even private owners who advertise a dog are now experiencing. But it would also keep the concerned public in the loop about specific dogs in trouble.
It's a start...
