RIP Nut Nut

We had to put our ultra-cool, orange tabby cat to sleep today. Our hearts are heavy, as his demise was very quick and unexpected. The root of the cause seems to be LymphoSarcoma of the stomach. (Not quite clear on this diagnosis as this type of cancer is associated with Feline Leukemia and he got vaccinated for that.)

Not sure exactly how old he was officially, as he was a found standing by the side of the road and brought into a shelter. We think he was between 13-15 years old. We got him in 1998 and shared 10 great years with him.

Nut Nut really should have been a dog because he had the greatest hide & seek chase games with both Frank & Haggis. He would hide under a piece of furniture and ambush them. It was great to watch.

He would sit a top a piece of furniture and paw at the sheepdogs as they walked beneath them. He would use his claws and always get a piece of fur with his little hooks. I don't know if the dogs ever even knew he was doing it.

He was an indoor/outdoor cat who would regularly greet us at our cars as we pulled up in front of the house. He would run the railings on our wrap around porch, while the dogs would be running around the yard. It was like he wanted to join the fun. He also had a blast running around when it snowed.

Dog-walking strangers would comment to us how this orange cat would fly out of the bushes, all puffed up & hissing, while they were walking their dogs down our sidewalks. I never witnessed this personally, so I believe he was protecting our propery while we were out.

The last couple of years Nut Nut would spend his days hanging out on our porch furniture as was captured in this photo. We will miss him dearly, especially as the leading role on our printed holiday cards. Rest in peace sweet Nutty.

p.s. I am really starting to HATE the month of February as we had to put our first OES, Newman, down this month as well. He was gone in 24 hours, just like Nut Nut.

Oh Deb! :(

Take some time and grieve for Nut-Nut, but I know you'll feel better soon and He'd want you to join in on the fun around the house with lil Haggis and big ol Frank.

I'll tell Joanie in the morning.

My heart hurts thinking of sweet Nut Nut. What a beautiful boy and beloved cat. If he loved being outside and running around here, just imagine the joy he is having now running around on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge: the weather is always perfect and the friends are always plentiful.
I am so sorry you lost Nut Nut. :( He sounds like such a cool cat - and quite handsome too.

I loved seeing him on the Christmas card, reminded me of our cat with pesonality plus also.
Thankfully he had a good long life, and knew all the love from you and your family. Lucky cat!
Dear Deb, (and Chris, Frank and Haggis),

My heart goes out to you all, but especially to your two Sheepies. Frank & Haggis must be wondering where is their crazy feline brother.

You wrote a touching and yet animated memorial of Nut Nut.

Hugs to you all,

Joan
Deb,

I know what you mean about this month...Sweet Nut Nut (I love orange cats) he sounded like my kind of cat. I know how much you and your dogs will miss him. I laughed at the story about him coming out of the bushes hissing. I bet that was a sight to see!! We had to have my moms cat put down with the same thing (many years ago). My thoughts are with you.

Cindy

Thanks everyone. His participation in our little dopey routines make us miss him the most. He definitely had a personality similar to Garfield, and all of the dogs were his Odie's.
Oh No! I'm crying as I read of Nut Nut's passing. Although I never met this little character in person, he was a part of my life for years through your stories and I came to love him. He touched my heart. Your tribute to him was touching and I know he will be dearly missed by his family.
