The heart of a Lab

We helped my beloved girl Savannah across the bridge Friday night around 10:30. We had her at the U of PA to be worked up for her arthritis and she was fine. She did have her spleen removed last year for a mass . I started her on her deramaxx wed and thur am she had no appetite, I made her scrambled eggs and gave her her meds. She was fine. When I returned later she had vomited her breakfast. I called the orthopedic vet and he said to discontinue the medication. Thur night she was fine. Friday at 4 am my daughter woke me to tell me Savannah was breathing heavy. I thought she might be in pain from the ortho exam on tue so I gave her her pain med and stayed with her, by 8 am she could not lift her head. I took her to the emergency vet center and they thought it might be a bleed from hemangiosarcoma, xrays did not show this so we thought it was a gastro infection and thought with antibiotics and fluids she would be OK, She had a temp of 103. We received a that night that she was having a hard time breathing and unresponsive. My family went and said our final goodbyes. She went peacefully cradled in my arms. She was a gentle spirit that taught many a foster dog that the world was indeed a kinder place. She will be missed. She is the yellow lab in my pictures. I took her to the U of Pa for a necropsy this morning.

Sail on silver girl you will be missed..................

Sorry for your loss.
I don't come to this area often, because I get so saddened by the sorrow expressed when a dear friend's time come up.

Savannah had you to love her and she had a wonderful life.

Think of the good times and smile...time will heal the pain.

Hugs
Cindy, I can't express how sad I was to hear of Savannah's sudden illness and rapid decline. You truly have my sympathy. Don't hesitate to call if you need a shoulder to get through this.

Not only did you give Savannah the gift of going peacefully in your arms, you r selfless act of allowing a necropsy may prevent others from going through this. She's still making a difference.

I am very sorry for your loss. :(
I'm deeply sorry for the loss of Savannah.

Your post topic touched my heart too as you got it so right. The heart of a lab is so special. While sheepies make us laugh, labs teach us about loyalty. Savannah was indeed a very special girl and that makes her loss hard. I'm sorry you are grieving for her and no doubt her time spent with you were happy ones where she knew she was loved.

May she now be playing and running pain free at the bridge.

Hugs to you

Marianne
Oh Cindy,

I am so sorry you lost her. What a sweet face and expression she has.

Big HUGS!

Roland
Your kind words mean so much at this time. I have had some peace in the fact that she is still making a difference. The necropsy will hopefully help others and the vets at the University of PA. I donated all her medications(some were new supplements in the box and some were new prescription medications) so that if a family came in and could not afford these expensive drugs they could have them. I also donated money in honor of the vet that treated her so that a family in need could get treatment. She showed my GSD that not all dogs wanted to fight and showed my other lab that all hands were not out to harm him. She comforted many an unsure foster. She was the gentleness of my pack. Her German shepherd misses her the most and seems lost without her. Her bed is still next to my computer(she preferred the sofa:)) and none of the dogs have gotten on it, I just cannot move it at this time.

Hugs
