Bad weather

I am on my iPhone in the basement closet with all 4 dogs and 2 cats and 1 bird. This is the most scared I have been in a long time. The last I seen the storm and tornados are going through Ingrids parts.
I am praying for this to end.

OH NO! Be careful. Thinking of you guys!
Hang in there!
Hang in there, Antoinette and animals.
It looked pretty hairy your way on the TV - weather channel.
2am and the tornado alarm is sounding again . Sitting in the closet typing this. This is the longest night ever.

Antoinette
I'm right here with you.
Looks like Franklin has made it through the worst of it...

Thanks Ron . The tornado watch was just lifted. Thank God!!!
The news said a plane went down somewhere near us and there are
a lot of homes in my county that were destroyed by the tornados.I guess we will know more in the morning.

:ghug:
I didn't know about the weather til this morning, sound terrible. Hope all are safe!
I can't believe the weather. I hope everyone here remained safe as well as their families. News reported over 31 dead (it's 3 a.m. my time) so far. :(
Antoinette, what a long lonely night that must have been for you and the animals but happy you are all ok :ghug:
Oh, how scary! I'm glad you made it through. Wow--tornadoes in February...I'm glad you have a basement though.
Bless your heart, Antoinette! I have been thinking about y'all. I've got lots of family in the Memphis area and I knew y'all were right in the cross hairs for this awful weather. Hope you & your family are all okay.

It's headed our way now. Expecting it any time.
We're under a tornado watch this morning. I actually wondered how we would fit in my husband's closet (the only room with interior walls) if all the kids were home...because now we have a sheepie to add to the list. My kids complained when they were little and were awakened in the middle of the night because nervous mom knew we were under a "watch". Later they just drug themselves into the closet, settled down, and slept. We had a tornado come through our neighborhood a couple of yrs ago and after the kids saw the destruction they understood my fear. Now...back to my original thought...if we have a watch, with the kids here, will we survive the wait with Abi, our puppy, licking our faces the whole time?

I really need to get my basement set up. Kids' breeder's is and she and I have spent many an evening down there...Crates for the kids. Pillows and comforters tossed on top of them. I'm sure they thought we were weird, but overall they tend to pick up on your fear and if you can remain calm (haha), they're OK. Least favorite moments: tornado warnings while I'm alone babysitting a young litter of hers and I have to get everyone in the basement, yet make sure the pups stay warm and so on. I hate it when they hit at night most of all - and it's not like we're in tornado alley - staring out into the dark, wondering what's out there. Brrr!

Woke up to the news from TN and so on this morning. Awful.

Kristine
Thankfully you all are safe!

I had numerous commitments yesterday and except for rushing home for a few mins I didn't return last night until late. This morning I saw the awful news regarding the Tornados and my first thought was of the OES forum members.

Antoinette - glad you are safe, as well as everyone else living in the areas that were under Tornado watch.

Marianne
Glad everyone is safe. I watched the news and thought of everyone in its path.
Glad you are safe Antoinette. I sent Ingrid and e-mail and she is okay also.
Well again thank you guys for being there when I needed ya .
As of now my I-phone is worth every penny. I watched the local news on the phone in the closet and when I felt like I needed to talk to someone I logged on to the forum. :D

As of a few minutes ago the local news said that the highest death toll was in Tennessee .Out of the 49 so far confirmed dead 29 were in Tennessee.
I live in Williamson county and here alone 26 homes were destroyed.

I have been through 5 hurricanes in Fl . 3 of them were direct hits and I have got to say this was worse than any of them !

The sound outside is just unreal. The house feels like it is moving up and down ( I have a 3 story home ) and it was moving. My basement is not really a basement but only the front half in underground, if it makes sense.
Our lot is called a Billy- goat lot .The front of the house is 2 story's and the back is 3.
Anyway I am thankful the 1 big closet downstairs is part underground since that is where we go . :phew:

I was very impressed with the dogs. Junior stayed on my lap, Harley laid by my side ,Claudia slept ( deaf and cataracts ) she thought it was a big slumber party  , and last but not least Howie. He was good in the beginning but once he fell asleep he may have been startled when he opened his eyes and Jr's face was there and he did a little snap.I can see he felt bad after he did it but Jr's is a little on edge
with him right now but I'm sure he we be fine .
Then both cats were stacked up in carriers with the bird in a small carrier cage on top of them and covered with a big blanket . Opps ~ don't forget 4 of us uprights. 8O
Did I say it is a big closet ...

And yes I took pictures....
I just have to see how to download them from my iphone

PS.. Darcy is Lisa ok? I did not get to call her last night due to the storm.

Antoinette
boy oh boy am I glad you are all ok. I was working this morning when a client told me about this... First thought was here and wondering if everyone ok. I think I will take the cold weather.... I would have heart failure if I had to go through that. How do the dogs do when you have them in a closet like that?
REALLY GLAD to hear from you Antoinette!! Sounds like it was pretty awful out there. So far, all we've had is rain. We were spared the worst of it this time.

Happy that everyone made it through the night in the closet.
I'm glad you had the iphone too. I'm going to keep my cell on me... good idea. We just had a truck blown off the road from the associated winds and so far 45 deaths from the storm headed my way...It will be hilarious in my husband's closet with my daughter (in a wheelchair), my son and his girlfriend, my Akita and Terrier, and the "I want to play all the time, and lick your face because everyone loves me" puppy..Abi. If his closet wasn't so cluttered I'd take a picture of all of us. Gotta laugh about it I suppose.

It's pretty darn funny and if we are there a while... pretty irritating since most of the time it's in the middle of the night and everyone is grumpy. The young, human and canine, get inpatient, especially if they couldn't go potty first. But you know, we've been fortunate and if the closet were bigger we wouldn't have as many funny memories
I empathize.
We had an experience like that a few years back.
I live on the Gulf Coast. Hurricane Rita was heading for us. We packed up our two dogs (OES and Chesapeake Bay Retriever) our hard drives (photos and stuff on them), food, water, some extra blankets, lights, first aid and the away we went to grandmother's house. And so did over 3 million other people.

We were stranded on the road overnight. No toilet, not enough food, and no gas.
The dogs slept right next to us in the van. We walked across 6 lanes of highway to use the bathroom, standing in line for over an hour. The restaurant had no food left. Buses of heat exhausted families were sprawled all over the parking lot that afternoon. We watched as an older lady was being given CPR on the parking lot drive.
And we made it with the dogs, parakeet, hamsters, 2 newts, and my beta. We turned around and went home the moment they got us all gas and opened the other side of the highway.
The hurricane hit further north, sucking all the water out of our area and making the clouds go in a weird direction. We all stayed in the master closet downstairs that night, with the door opened. The dogs and the 3 girls seemed rather content. My husband slept on the bed ... guess he knew it would be ok; or maybe he was just exhausted form the night before.
Next time you will find us all in the same closet from the get go. Rather die together in our closet than out there on the road any day.
We installed a ventilation fan to the side of the house from the closet just in case.... I even have some water and dry food in there. I back up the hard drives on this neat usb drive and keep it in there too, as well as backups in our bank deposit box every 3 months or so.
You would be surprise how many can fit into a space when need be. Not surprising, no one complained.
Hopefully you will never need to find out though. Glad it turned out alright, if a bit scary. Sounds like one of you did ....
Here's to better weather for the rest of the year.
Thanks Tammy. I am glad you guys were spared this part of the storm. :phew:

ej , the dogs actually did good in the closet. My boys have been trained when we go downstairs and I have my emergency bag in hand
( You know Treats ,leashes, meds etc..) we are going in the closet.

I tell them to get in the closet ,they go right in. Howie has learned to just follow the pack. Claudia on the other hand is like a mule  ! We have to push her rump in the closet but once they are all in there they settle down fast.
They can sense there is something not right and they never think it is play time.
We have a lot of storms here in Franklin-Nashville so sadly we get a lot of practice. :(

Antoinette
Wow Carol... that's quite a story!

Antoinette, have you heard from Ingrid?
Ron, Betsy said she heard from Ingrid & they're all okay.

Ron I did talk with her early this morning .They are ok but she does have some damage and she said her 11 year old sheepie girl had a hard time last night. :(
The worst was she contacted me again about 10 am and said the weather was getting bad again.

When I seen her area getting a direct hit last night I was so worried.

The news just said the big tornado that went over 27 miles on the ground was headed straight to the heart of Nashville and the Predators(Hockey) game was just getting over. They showed the tape of them telling thousands of people that the Tornado sirens was going off and that there was a big tornado coming right at them , It broke my heart to watch the faces of those people and here them screaming . :(
The Arena has a underground tunnel ,so the officials were going to open it and start getting the people underground when the tornado lifted up and jumped right over Nashville the sad part is it landed on Sumner county TN and 10 people died.

Antoinette
:( I was just watching the national weather. How terrible it looks. We are just having bitter cold weather. I hope everyone is ok, dry and warm, and of course unhurt. :ghug:
OMG how scary! Glad you are safe!! :ghug:
I'm glad you are okay.

We have our tornado plan and supplies. I remember several tornado warnings that happened while my parents were at work - huddling in our safe room with my brothers and sister, talking to mom to keep us calm. A neighbor's house was flatten and the family dogs killed. An apt complex two blocks away was flattened. Things you remember as a child.

Eight years ago, Fort Worth was hit by a tornado during rush hour. It was very scary and could have been much worse (5 dead, 100 injured). I'm glad Nashville is okay, though I worry about some distant family in Sumner county.

I can't imagine why they didn't move the people there right away...?

I didn't see any footage of that... I guess I'm glad too.

Glad everyone you know is ok.
So glad everyone is OK. It's also a good reminder to have extra supplies on hand in case of emergency.
