OK, who rescued Marbles?

Who is it that rescued this boy? He kind of looks familiar, doesn't he?

I don't know if the folks who adopted Marbles are forum members. ??

The head of the rescue that rescued Marbles is a member here.

Isn't he beautiful?!
he is BEAUTIFUL!
I don't really understand this
http://thearas.livejournal.com/9147.html
do we know this person?????????????
There are no bad dogs only bad owners
I wasn't especially impressed by her post, adopted him out two times got him back then "enrolled him" in an oes rescue?? Then she says she is doing something good with her free time???? SOunds like she was just playing pass the pooch.

Sorry, shouldn't be critical but it sounds like the poor pup has gotten the run around, if I count correctly 5 homes in 7 months: his original, this person, two failed adoptions and the oe rescue. Hope he is settled.
He looks kinda like Howie...but he had a different story.
I received a call from Gayle, a groomer who also does all-breed rescue in southeastern Indiana. She asked if we would be willing to take Marbles into rescue because she wasn't having much luck with the animals she'd placed recently. Marbles and a couple other pets had been returned after being adopted into various homes.

Marbles was born in Missouri and came to live in Cincinnati. The first owner's husband passed away and Marbles was given directly to a second home. The new owner was diagnosed with cancer and had to give him up. Gayle was the groomer she used so she left him at Gayle's shop hoping he would find a good home.

Marbles became a sort of mascot around the grooming shop but he was only about six months old and was quite a handful for them. And he HATES cats! Gayle eventually placed Marbles with a retired gentleman who had never had an OES. A few days later he brought him back saying Marbles was continuously vomiting and he couldn't keep him. A while after that is when I received the call from Gayle.

Marbles was posted on our Petfinder site and received many inquiries. A persistent animal-lover and very dog-savvy woman named Lana was the lucky woman to finally take Marbles in. She has never owned and OES but she has already made a connection with this dog that nobody else has ever had. If Marbles plays his cards right, he has truly landed in the lap of luxury. I just received a call from Lana last night and not only are they doing quite well, he's starting Obedience class tonight! As soon as it's approved, I'll post a shot of Marbles with Lana.

Please don't judge Marble's previous owners or caretakers. They either could not handle this wild child or were not familiar with the breed. Gayle is doing great things with the rescued animals in her small community and I can't thank her enough for the wonderful care and attention she gave Marbles while he lived with her and her staff at the shop. She knew such a young OES like Marbles needed a "real" home with a fenced yard and lots of attention. We just helped find what we feel will be a great home for Marbles. But most of all, thank you, Lana!

As Paul Harvey would say, thanks for the "rest of the story"!

YEP, looks like Howie, But My Howie has a fur~ever home with us .... :D
And he is never a bad boy.( Did I say never... 8O )

Anyone who blames a dog for being "bad" immediately loses all credibility as far as I'm concerned.
Here's Marbles with his new "mom":

I don't think Marbles is "bad", he's just a young sheepie boy. He hadn't been taught any manners before arriving at the shop and he is admittedly a bit of a "wild child". Typical of most OES his age but since this breed is rarely seen in this area, he did pose quite a challenge to the grooming staff. Especially when there were cats around. No cat was safe in the building when Marbles was on the loose. :excited:
Lovely!! Thanks, Nita!! :P
I hope they have a long happy life together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
awwww...

ha ha ha--the way I first saw it, it looked like with his mom's shirt above his head--looked like Marbles has Antlers!

BTW, are they keeping his name as Marbles? I think it's so cute.
They look so cute and happy together! WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I believe he will remain "Marbles".

It's a very fitting name for him and was one of the things Lana found quite endearing even before she met him. :D
Yay for Marbles. :clappurple:
I know I keep saying this but that name just makes me smile every time I read/hear it :D :D :D

The breed can be a challenging one to people who aren't accustomed to the velcro nature of many, their grooming and exercise requirements and simply the characteristics that make up this wonderful breed. But I'm preaching to the choir now aren't I...

So here's to the boy that's been in sooo many homes... we're all hoping this will be the one that sticks. I'm glad no one was willing to give up on you buddy!
looks like a match made in heaven what a happy ending
Nita,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understand that Gayle was not the person who posted the "blog" and photos of Marbles.
That's right, Nancy.

The blogger is a girl who works for the owner of the grooming shop. She was not involved in his placement but despite how it sounds, she was extremely fond of Marbles and was quite sad when we picked him up.

Again, I can't thank Gayle, Carrie and Sara for the great job they did with Marbles during his stay with them.

Lana has been invited. :-) Hoping to see her here soon!
Hi, I am the poster of the journal who started this thread, and I just feel like there are a couple of things I need to say. My name is Sara. I am a 20 year old girl who works as the kennel manager for Gayle. I am not offended by the previous remarks on my some what questionable attitude toward Mr. Marbles, I simply wanted the chance to maybe, stick up for myself a little bit. When Marbles came to us, he was almost impossible to walk on a leash, or even just be around with him jumping and acting all crazy. I personally took my time to trian Marbles to walk right on a leash and sit and wait for food and treats. How do you think Nita even got a picture of him? And as anyone who has done rescues of any kind knows, I distanced myself form him a great deal so it really wouldn't hurt so much when i never see him again. It may have come across as him "not being my problem" but really i am just happy he's not just sitting in a cage all day. See, about 9 months ago I had this lab puppy I named Buttercup who I fostered for almost 2 months. I had become very very attached to this pup and found it heartbreaking when we found a home for her. After Buttercup, I try not to get too close to the rescue dogs and cats. And really can you blame me? I just felt the need to put this in here and maybe someone won't be so quick to judge by a silly post on Live Journal.
Hi Sara,

I'm sorry some posters may have sounded a bit harsh before understanding the details of your relationship with Marbles. Some people thought you had personally adopted him and then turned him out again... and were relieved about it. Knowing that you work in a grooming shop that also takes in rescues, it makes things much clearer. YOU know what you did while Marbles was in your care went above and beyond your job description and I'm sure he'll never forget you for that kindness.

All you girls were teary-eyed when you said your goodbyes and it was obvious you loved Marbles to pieces. I think it affected you the most. Most people on this board are passionate about rescue as I know you are. Please don't be angry with any of them for things that were said before they knew the entire story. This group is very grateful to you and the rest of the shop's staff for helping a dog in need.

Sometimes things are read into blogs or parts are missing and can lead to misunderstandings such as this. Keep doing the good work that you do because dogs like Marbles need people like you!
*I* kind of figured (and hoped!) there was more to the story. Your post on Live Journal was out-of-context with your real life experience! I'm glad to learn it was just written in a little casual style and not how you *really* felt inside.

Thank you for helping Marbles in his route to a new home!

(Thanks to your boss too!!!)
Sara, I would also like to thank you for all of the time and effort you put into helping Marbles be ready for a good placement. Please also let everyone at the groomers know that we are all grateful for the care and love that Marbles received, jus as we are grateful for the efforts of Nita, and of course, that Lana found Marbles to be the dog for her.

Too many times, we read or hear about dogs in terrible situations, who are shuffled from home to home with little thought or care--or worse, left alone in cages. It makes us extra-sensitive, too. Just as you put a little emotional distance between yourself and Marbles (or tried to--it's apparent you really couldn't), some of us become extra protective and even defensive. We're really a nice bunch of people!

I'm glad you stopped by. And again, thank you for helping Marbles.
Sara,

:ghug:

I'm glad you came to the forum. In my opinion, there is absolutely no need for you to defend yourself or your words on your blog. Doing rescue and working with animals (and the general public in your job) isn't always easy and at times we all need to vent. There is nothing wrong with chosing to vent on your blog. What 20 yr old doesn't?!

Nita and I work closely in rescue and I know that you and the rest of the people at the grooming shop did a hell of a great job with Marbles. And like it or not, he took a little piece of you along with him when he went to his new home with Lana. He also has his very own space in your heart forever too. Naughtiness and all! ;)

Thank you for all you've done for Marbles and the others, past, present and future -- regardless of their breed.

Nancy
MN OES Rescue
Sara, you've done a great job. But sometimes when we "read" words here, all we see are the "words" that are written and can't tell emotions behind them.

You're really someone special to do the things you are doing. And I, personally, thank you.
:ghug:
Hi Sara-
All of us here are passionate about the breed... we've heard of pretty bad things happening to dogs but sometimes forget we don't always know the whole story. I've been guilty of it in the past too and kick myself after

It may have come across as him "not being my problem" but really i am just happy he's not just sitting in a cage all day.

I have a sheepie that was said to have spent the work day in a drying cage with her former owner. I came to understand that she had no other choice because of this sheepie's naughty behavior. She counter surfed, had destructive behavior due to separation anxiety, would potty in the house because of a bladder defect and the SA and had HD too. The owner had to work and couldn't leave this girl alone. She couldn't be crated or she'd soil her crate, drool terribly and howl. Yes, there were times I was very frustrated with her behavior. We had never experienced a dog like this in our lives 8O

Marbles sounds like one of these "extra special" dogs  I'm glad you worked with him to make him more manageable... that's what it takes with a lot of these out of control dogs... they just didn't have training beginning at a young age.

And fostering is such an important part of rescue! I've only been able to foster a cat and wild birds in my lifetime so I can appreciate the need to protect your heart. I hope & pray you'll continue to help dogs along the way.

I'm just SO glad Marbles got yet another chance to find his perfect match.
Yay for Marbles!! :cheer:
Marbles and Lana look so happy.
Thanks for understanding. Marbles really wasn't all that bad, he was just young and no one had ever taught him anything! Now that he has sitting and waiting for food mastered, everything else should come fairly easy. I am not overly a sheepdog nut myself, but i do appriciate the breed. (I'm a boston terrier girl) Thank you all for all your help with Marbles I don't know what would've happened to him if it wasn't for Nita.
Okay, I thought Ron would have said it already, but...

I'm glad Lana found her Marbles.

 It had to be said.
   Good one!
Mister Marbles And I LOVE each other. He has tons of toys I found he would eat the stuffed toys so we went ti several kinds of balls and tug toys. he rides in the car very good and loves to go for rides with me he behaves and has learned to sit and shake. We will be starting obedience school, but I think he is half way ther. Well you know every parent thinks their kid is the smartest. He sleeps with me every night, and if we fall asleep watchig tv in the family room he sleeps on the couch and I get the loveseat. He 's not real happy with the ducks and swans behind the house most have moved to the other pond. I can't wait to see if he jumps in the pool this summer. He and my 3yr old grandaughter Hannah play all the time. See wants to stay at grandma's all the time to play with Marbles. The vet said he looks like Kramer frim Seinfield. We love him and look forward to many years together. Thanks for allowing me this great opportunity to have a great new friend. Lana
Thanks for the update, Lana! Please consider joining us so we can have regular access to pictures and stories about Marbles' new life. :D You'll like here.
Say what you will... Marbels and any other ANIMAL who is homeless and comes across SARA and her sister CAREY's path are some of the very lucky ones. My daughters are the heart and soul of these animals and NO homeless pet they have handled has been put down or put out!!!
They have found homes for every pet they have rescued ! Now I don't know about you but in my book thats a HERO !!! The one who goes to the shop 2X on Sunday's and most wed's after working two jobs. She writes her time in as one hour paid time and stays for 3 working with the ones that need 'MANNERS" so they have a better chance of finding good homes! The girl (SHE IS ONLY 20 YRS OLD) digging into the bottom of her purse to pay for med's or ointment or food or flea stuff or whatever she has to do to make this wonderful homeless animal more comfortable. The girl who makes sure not once but twice that the animals are ALL happy, clean and cared for. She's the real HERO here. Take time to look at the whole picture BEFORE judging oh but then WHAT WOULD YOU DO ??? Thanks to all who understand, those who don't can put it in your Sheepdog and SMOKE IT !!![/quote]
Hi Guest's mom
You are right to be proud of your girl! I would be if she were mine
Well done everyone involved in this rescue! :clappurple:
