Honey is saved from certain death

I realize this is an OES forum, and that Honey does not remotely resemble an OES. However, I need to vent, and I thought if anybody would understand, it would be my newfound friends at this forum. While on a drive today with two of my dogs, I saw this pitiful creature on the side of a busy highway. With tears in my eyes, I took my dogs home and immediately turned around to go back and feed this little dog who looked as if she wouldn't last very much longer without some nutrition. When I got back to the site where I had seen her, she came right to me, wagging her stubby little tail. I gave her water, put out food for her and hugged her gently, trying to convey to her that I cared and not everyone is as cruel as the jerk who left her there to die. I went back to my car to get my phone, and she followed me, as if to say, "Please take me with you". I opened the back door, and she timidly tried to climb in. I had to give her a boost because one of her back legs is injured. She also has some skin issues and has been starved to near death. I can count every rib and most of the vertabrae in her back. But even with the experience she has been through with humans, she still has the most loving and sweet disposition I've ever seen in an animal. She appears to be a rottweiler and is very young, probably six to eight months at most, which makes me think that her owner started thinking about the expense of puppies and/or spaying, and thought that dumping her was an easy way out. I was so furious and hurt just thinking what she's been through, I've spent much of the afternoon just hugging her and crying. How can people be so heartless? I live in a rural area that has no shelter, and few laws governing the treatment of animals. Personally, I can't think of any punishment that would be good enough for those who perpertrate such callous abuse. Honey is safe now, on my deck with food, water, a warm bed and lots of love. I put photos of her in my album with Missy and Molly, if you want to see her. Did I need another mouth to feed? Certainly not, but as I told my mom, if God brought her to me, He surely will guide me in her care. I just pray for all the other Honey's out there who won't be so lucky.

Thanks for being that one special person who saw this poor
dog today and actually took time to show her compassion.

Thanks for saving her... I look forward to seeing pictures of Honey :)
Yes.... Thanks for helping her. I agree that when there is a will HE will show us the way.... No matter what happens Honey will always be thankful for someone like you to have come along!!

Can't wait to see pics!
Be prepared for the pics. These first ones are not pretty. I hope to nurse her back to health and take more of her when she gains some weight and gets the shine back to her coat. But no matter how pitiful she looks, she's already a beauty in my eyes because she's so humble and loving.
Thank you for rescuing her! :ghug:
 the poor baby thanks for saving her

That is my sentiments too. I hope Honey is OK in spite of her obvious neglect.
How lucky Honey is to have found you! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Ditto both these sentiments! What a godsend you are for Honey! :ghug:
There are Rottweiler rescues in your area. Don't be afraid to call them, even if you think you might keep honey. They can be helpful in getting her medical help or to a new home if you decide you can't keep her.

I have a friend who has a dog named Honey. He too, rescued her on the side of the road. I'm sure this beauty is grateful and you are a Godsend to her. Thank You and God bless You!!!
And we had a basset foster named Honey. She was also found along a road, with 2 other female bassets. One had been hit and was having seizures when found (and she has since recovered!) All 3 are suspected of being dumped by a mill, as they were very obviously bred and bred. Honey was the one who's female parts dragged on the ground, as some of you may remember. 8O She has a wonderful new home in WI.
I just got back from the vet this afternoon with Honey. It seems her injury is a broken leg, but it is healed to the point that nothing else is to be done. She is beginning to put some of her weight on it already. The vet says she will most likely always have a limp, maybe better in warmer weather and worse in cold. Her skin problems are not mange (thank goodness), but the result of a secondary staph infection due to flea infestation, although I haven't seen any on her since I've had her. She is now on a regimen of puppy chow, cod liver oil, antibiotics and dip for her skin condition. The vet says she is a little over a year old, and she has had a litter of puppies that I know nothing about, except my neighbor called a couple of weeks ago saying that four black and tan puppies had been set off at his door. Now I'm wondering if those could have been Honey's babies, and maybe whoever dumped them took her back to the highway before dropping her. At any rate, she is thriving in all the love and attention she's getting now. She's gaining weight daily, and beginning to get some of her spirit back. She didn't make a sound for several days, but today she barked at everything she saw, from dogs to people! And she LOVES to ride! Long story short, she is safe and happy, probably for the first time in her life. Guess I'm the proud mama of another baby girl!
Congratulations and Thank you proud mama! What a sweet new addition to your family and even a "bobtail" She's lucky to have you! She looks to be a real honey indeed.
I'm glad to hear she's thriving under your care. What a shame about her leg. That makes me both sad and angry. Stupid people.

Thank you, again, for being such an angel and taking this girl in and giving her the life she deserves. :cheer:
I think anyone with a heart would feel horrible to hear those stories, but what a relief it is to know that there are so many people out there who will turn around and help.

A rescue I had last winter also had a broken leg that healed without benefit of being set and she is fine - her leg is a little "bent" but she rarely limps and never complains about it or is in any pain. BUT, i cannot imagine the pain she endured while it was broken and not tended to. Thanks for taking this poor soul in - what a comfort you are to her.
I not only can imagine, but I also know without a doubt what pain she has endured. I had a broken leg myself a few years ago, and the pain was indescribable. I just want to cry every time I think about all Honey has gone through. I am surprised that she has as much faith in any human as she does; maybe she just has a way of knowing that she is safe now. She had her first bath this afternoon, followed by the dip the vet recommended. I only meant to keep her inside until she dried off, but guess what! She took to the house like a duck to water and is now running around snatching the other dogs' toys, wagging her stubby tail, happy just to be noticed. Yep, I've got a keeper!
I just luv you!!!

People like you make the world a better place!

Thank you for caring and stepping up to the plate and making a difference in Honey's life.

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul and you can see from your pics ..her eyes have a story to tell. I have no doubt we'll soon be seeing happy smiling pics from Honey soon.

Marianne

The boys are sending her sloppy kisses! :hearts:
I have just uploaded photos of Honey one week after we rescued her. She has changed so much in just a week. Her coat is shinier, her spirit is renewed, and she's gone from being shy and suspicious to being attached to me at the hip! She is so happy, in one of the photos she actually looks as if she is laughing! And, as you can probably tell, she quickly became an "inside" dog!
What a sweet girl :D . And lucky as well, to have such a great mom :clappurple:
Honey sure is a beauty! The change in her is amazing in such a short time...thank you for rescuing this beautiful girl.
Oh you can definitely see a marked improvement in her already. What a difference a little TLC makes. Bravo!!
:D Just caugth up on this thread: so glad you found and rescued Honey! :ghug: to you both!
It's been four months now since I found Honey on the roadside. She has come so far, it's almost like living with a different dog. She has her spirit back; she's playful, feisty and loving to a fault. She has defied every stereotype I have ever read or heard about Rottweilers. She has absolutely none of the aggressive traits feared by so many who shun the breed. She was recently spayed, and at that time, she weighed almost 90#, which is almost twice what she weighed when I found her. Her coat is shiny and she is a picture of health. Most of all, she is happy with us and tries in every way she can to show her gratitude for having a warm, safe and loving home. Little does she know it is we who should be grateful for having the privilege of sharing our lives with her and the rest of our wonderful four legged children, including our beautiful OES, Molly. Will post new photos of Honey and the gang tomorrow.
What a great update! :D I'm looking forward to seeing pictures.
That is good news. :D I can't wait to see her pictures - thanks!
Thank you so much for saving Honey!
She is a beauty!
Glad you were there to save her!!
There is nothing more rewarding than the loyalty this lovely girl will give you. Blessings to both of you .
