Blue marking

Blue had been cocking his leg and took a pee on my garbage that I had hanging on a door handle. very little but there (marking) not hitting the floor. Caught him once and got after him and put him out side, he never came to me for the whole nite. Blue is our suck and it does not take a lot to get after him. Now these garbage bags are different then the ones I usually used. White stretchy ones. Nothing good in these bags house cleaning. They were not in the can. Usually is, so I am hoping by not hanging the bag he will stop and BUY different bags :D He is 7 months and was to be fixed on JAN 30 but weather was to bad for vet to come to town. So now end of March. THIS is our first male and marking was my fear..... so what do I do any help I also noticed this morning when our poodle peed he went were she was and peed in the sdame spot, does thast mean anything?

To me, it seems Blue is marking so first I would recommend you to read and practice the Leadership Exercise with him.

Do you walk him? What is your feeding routine?

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to email me at kata@cavecanis.com :D
Walking has not happened in 2 weeks.... -32 to -45 ... Blue/Sami does go outside in yard for the romp. Blue sleeps on the floor never on the bed or couch. Food does not seem to be a problem.... treats are not givin freely... he does not share his chew bones..none of them do. BUT he is the only male and very mellow not a leader at all. I would say my poodle is the leader maybe testing her?? I put the bags away and we have no problems it is weird the he picked there? I have walked the house to see if any other marking just in case Iand I can not find a thing. how do you stop or teach them not to is it the same a potty training? Walks are normally in the evening and we do leave the poodle at home and things are better... now I have jinx myself weather is to get better soon. My daughter almost got frost bite on ears... sore for a few days very close. Just walking to work in five minutes. Just to damm cold dogs go and run come in very fast but out lots. Just to burn enegy.
Hm... :lmt: very interesting. Do you have the scented bags? If possible tether him to you for a couple of days so if it happens you can catch him in the act. By tethering himself to you, you can always keep your eyes on him. Do you know if your poodle does it too? Have you actually seen Blue do it?
no to the poodle. Blue I caught once, 2nd time first time I was not sure so I just cleaned with the kids cleaning their rooms you never know what is going into the garbage. Later that day David caught him when he was doing the dishes, different bag. That was two days ago and he did this morning bag only out for minutes and I thought I would put it up and to late. I just went to look at the bags and IT DOES have a scent... odor sheild fresh clean scent, so maybe that is it. Beacuase I have hung regualer bags before and never had this problem usually garbage day when we are runing around cleaning the rooms from the smaller garbages. I bought new bags today I am going to hang one just to see if he doespee again... I'm wondering now if it is the smell. Smells like bounce sheets.

 We had those bags and I loved that it smells so nice. My boys didn't care about it though. Anyway, let me know how it goes with the regular bag.
Yup he is marking, My Merlin did the same thing to plastic bags, it also started when he was 7 months old. then ihe started marking the doorways for the room I was in.....neutering only deterred the behavior but didnt stop it. We learned to not leave plastic bags where Merlin could pee on them. Same goes for friends shoes that come to the house, they had to be put in the closet, or Merlin would pee on them or on the spot where the shoes were once the friends had left. The vet suggested a behaviourist to help but he said no guarantees...I decided it was just easier to not leave stuff on the floor and when friends were over to have Merlin tethered to me so he couldnt go off and pee on their shoes or coat  I am not sure how often he does it now as I dont live with him any more. But when I go to visit, I have to put my shoes and coat in the closet so he doesnt pee on my things. He smells the other dogs that I now live with and has to 'protect' his house against their scent.
So far no more problems.... no bags down. I do know some one that has a dog that will pee on shoes all the time you can not leave them down when you are there. David has a grocey bag hanging by the desk for papers I left it to see if anything will happen and Blue has no interest in that one? I just have to watch. I remeber rescueing a little pom over a year ago who was lost (found his home in morning) But I had to hold him the whole night and made sure he slept at nite that little fellow wanted to mark everywhere. I only had my poodle at the time.... but WOW he was a lot of work.

I am going through this right now, with a little Yorkie.... His crate is coming in very handy...
Well it was not the white bags DARN. I had a dark bag out last nite turned around for a sec, he took a pee and I caught him, he is that fast. And I went to put out a bag today (how can you tell I am spring cleaning  ) Put it down to tie it up and he was ABOUT to pee and I caught/and stopped him. The cocky little bugger(no pun intended) So no bag out of the can. Even when I am cleaning I have to be clean 8O

Maybe he thinks you are being really messy (and dirty) for leaving the bag out.
Well I am getting there. Blue only marked 2 other times. Once again I did not catch him. next time I did. That was 2 days ago. I know he is thinking about it, just have to watch very carefully and say NO BLUE he looks at me and does not bother So I think I am winning. Knock on wood.....
He is just terretorial and marking his pee spot. Make sure that no other dog pees there or he might attack. :o
I am lucky that way it has been garbage bages and they go out, The monkey was even going to lift his leg when I was going to tie one up and take it out... THEN he seen my face and decided not to
Marking needs to be treated like a housebreaking issue. The neuter should help but before that happens you do not want it to become an established habit. If this becomes frequent you need to go back to housebreaking 101, confinement, praise and reprimand for the marking behavior.
thats what I have been doing I think the weird part is he is great for 2 to 3 days then usually mrning or late evening he will try about twice then thats it again  He is getting fixed end of March. Had appt Jan 30 they had to cancel duw to bad weather, next day he started marking go fiqure. 8O
