Where did my GOOD puppy go????

Tucker is now exactly 10 months and one day old. He used to always sit, down, come, crate - whenever we asked. A little treat went a long way. *Sigh*, oh those days were lovely, weren't they?

But what happened? Where did THAT dog go? He certainly isn't here anymore. Of course, Tucker is just as loving and intelligent as before. He still sits, and does down, and comes, and goes into his crate. But only when HE wants to. I have tried...
- to show him the delicious peanut butter kong first (favourite treat)
- to make it all seem fun and exciting to do what I am asking
- to be firm and authoritative - Cesar Millan style alpha kind of thing
- to make eye contact
- to not make eye contact
- we exercise a lot
- we play a lot
- to trick him

And NOTHING works! When we give a command, especially "crate" or "come inside", he usually runs away. Oh yes, this is great fun for him. But when I am late to leave, or standing in my underwear at the door and it's cold outside (really, really cold), it is not so fun for me. Yesterday I ended up chasing him all around the family room and into the basement where I finally cornered him, gently took his collar and led him up to his crate. As soon as he is in the room with the crate he runs right in, but OY the challenge of getting there!!!!

Anything I can do? Please oh please let you all have wonderful ideas!!!

BAH!

(I think) these are the teenage, rebellious times for us...Heart is 7 months and I see the beginnings of this as we speak..She will not come in when I call her....BUT when my husband just whistles, very softly, she comes barrelling into the house, runs straight for him and immediately sits at his feet!!!!! I feed her....I brush her....I love on her..I give her baths AND take her to training...but she is crazy in love with him!!!!!

(what's a mother to do!!!!!)
Oh how I feel your pain.

Lets hope this is a phase that will go away?? :|

I think it is the Y chromosome  Guinness was lovely till he hit two and then he would look at me when I said "come!" as if to say who the heck are you?? I will come when I am ready not when you are!!!! He really needs to go back to training... I had him signed up for an advanced obedience but I am too embarresed to let my trainer see how bad he is now 8O But when we visit a facility he is right on cue The little brat!!! I did put him on an extended lead and work with him the other day but he did not pay attention and I was freezing!! I hope this passes for you. I have a big doofus sheepie that listens when he wants to. He really needs work,
Bree is almost a year and we've been dealing with the stubborn teenaged rebellion stuff for a couple of months now. I keep hoping my good puppy will be back soon. LOL She is SO BAD. LOL
Biggest issues are barking and jumping. The jumping seems slightly better lately.... but she's mouthy.
WOW...I thought I was the only one....glad to hear I am not in this boat alone...Chief is 9 months and he is awful........he was such a good puppy
now he is the monster......cupbard surfs....won't come in...gets into things that have been there since he came.....it is like he is testing the waters
yes that does bring back memories of raiseing teenagers
Frank was like that too, especially when he hit age 2 he was really challenging us. If it makes you feel any better, Frank is now 4 (his birthday's today!) and he is starting to be pretty obedient again.
Thanks for all the comforting words - it's good to know I'm not alone! And by the sounds of it, I just have to wait about 3 years and the phase will be over.
8O
I saw the kong on your list, but one thing I didn't see on it was a handful of little training treats.

He obeys a command, he gets a little piece of kibble or whatever treat. If he goes for it, do it again and again and again. If he doesn't, turn your back, walk away.

Not sure if it will help, but hey.
derby is almost 2 and he his doing the same thing!! i guess back to square one basic training for both of us
We start basic obedience tonight if it doesn't rain. Nigel is 8 months old now, and I feel your pain. He barks at every noise I make, sneeze, singing (it's really not that bad). He never comes when I call him unless he sees I have treats. He digs in the dog run every day looking for where the neighbor's kitty left him a present. YUCK!

I have to train Bella, so I hope my 12 yr old gets him to behave for her. I don't really expect good behavior again until 3...then again...maybe longer. It is a fun thing that they are so silly, but they are SLOW to mature. :D
I love this website!!!!! It is fantastic to know that other people are going through the same things...sometimes I think it is just our Dusty!!
She is 8 months now and has just started getting cheeky!
We go back to training next Friday, but we are going away this weekend for a weekend in a country pub, and they allow dogs, I am praying she behaves xxxxx
:P
