Sheepiepalooza 2008

What is all the excitement about? Sheepiepalooza is coming!

Image

The St. Louis Old English Sheepdog Club wants everyone to mark their calendars for May 24-25 (Memorial Day Weekend).

The club had our first planning meeting and the committees are already enthusiastically at work.

This year in addition to the welcome gathering on Friday night for Forum Members we will be offering "dog sitting" services on Monday to any out of towners who would like to use the opportunity to visit other sites in St. Louis. A donation will be collected for the sitting services and given to our designated OES Rescue.

Brochures with details and reservation information will go out around Mid-March. If you would like to be added to the mailing list please reply to this thread (you can pm your address to me). This will give us an idea on how many to plan for.

We hope to see you in St. Louis.

OH! I will so be there even if I have to drag my husband with broken knees!!!! I am so glad you are doing this again!!!!!!
I will be there, LeAnne may not.

Work/vacation issues again this year, but I will make it work!
I am definitely going to try to make it again this year.
I really, really WANT to go again...especially since I've had my sheepie for more than 24 hrs this time (picked Lucy up the day before Sheepiepalooza last year). However, I'm due May 5th (have I mentioned I'm pregnant?) so I have no idea how feasible it will be to attend. I'm not going to completely rule it out though!!!

Tasha
Hi Judi,

Sorry to say but I don't think SamSun, Britni and myself will be able to attend this year. It really breaks my heart not to be able to go. :(

Anyone new who is going this year: YOU AND YOUR SHEEPIES ARE IN FOR A REAL TREAT!!! Judi and George did some awesome planning to make things work the way they did. Have fun you all!
I'll PM you with my address; I'd like to get some more info, and if the dates work out, would love to come!
I'm told we are coming.

Sybil told me.

I fear it relates to some machiavellian plot of hers involving Harry...

Kristine
I will definatley be there. I sent my address in a pm.

Mad Dog (Kristine) I look forward to meeting you and everyone else. I love these things.
I'd like to say that I'm going to come but I'm afraid to commit due to my fear of a lifetime of smack talk from Judi if I can't.

 You are so right Jill!

Maybe you should ask Clyde if he would like to see Harry again?

Patch wants to attend this year, please send us a brochure. Looks like a lot of fun. :D
Ok I promised Obe last year that we would go. So I will pm you with address. I would ask him to make sure, but he is sleeping at the moment.

I know he does. They had a great time together. Bear always enjoys attention, too. Everything is contingent on Lucy's health since I really can't leave her right now. No one else will give her the care she needs to my standards and she's too fragile for boarding. We may not even go on our anniversary trip if she doesn't start improving soon. :(
I wish it wasn't 17 hours away!!! :(
We always want to come to that, but is always right when we get home from Key West.

Have a great time! Know we wish we could be with you! Maybe one day!
YAHOOOO!!!!!! :clappurple: :cheer:  :yay: :excited:

School is out, it is only an 8 hour drive! We'll be there!!! Maybe seeing Ralph with so many other sheepies will convince Karen that another one in is order.

We'll be there.

Ann, Karen, and Ralph
Please add Oliver and I to the mailing list. It was so much fun last year!
It looks like we will not be able to make it this year. My oldest son is bringing his "really serious" girlfriend down from Michigan to visit and introduce her to Mom. Oh boy - I am so not ready for this. Would much rather be playing with the sheepies.
:( Sorry you won't make it. Too bad it all had to fall on the same weekend.

It does sound exciting - have you met her at all yet??? Phoned, emailed?
Time to move onto the next stage of motherhood Wyn - the mother-in-law!
I haven't met her. I haven't even seen pictures of her. I only know her name and occupation. Oh yeah - she is a couple of years older than my son. And NOOOOOOOOOOOOO I am so not ready to be a mother-in-law. Why do I think I will make a terrible one? (Because noone will be good enough for my son - that's why.)
Barkley, hubby, Dolan (now 15 months) and I will be there pending any major disasters. We cannot wait. We will probably try to find a home/cottage rental instead of cramming into a hotel room. Any suggestions of pet friendly lodging in the area would be appreciated?
Doreen
OMG... I think I just convinced Adam that we should go :yay: ... I didn't even have to try that hard! I should know in the next few days for sure! And I'm with Doreen; any doggie-friendly hotels that folks can recommend?
We're on the maybe list. I'll need to find lodging for Annie while we are gone :(

Anybody with a motor home we could tag along with? I've always wanted to rent one :D Maybe this would be a good time.
Things are looking good that we'll be able to make it. I just have to talk to James tonight.
We are planning to be there. :cheer:
I will try to update hotel information in the next two days on this thread and I will send people who have inquired a private message as well.

We are trying to finalize a few details so the brochure probably will not go out until about the third weekend of March. But people can start making their hotel reservations now.

I cannot wait to see all of you.

P.S. Clyde -
Harry is getting into "shape" so that he can play with you!
Clyde says to keep it fat so they'll have the same endurance level.
But do they have enough energy to keep up with the Foz Man? I really do think we will attend this year. Steve drives and I sleep :D I'll just need to request 1 or 2 vacation days to recuperate. I'M SO EXCITED!
I am so excited too! Oliver is (hopefully) old enough this year that I won't have to carry him during the final parade!
jcc9797 wrote:

LOL - I hope not!!!

We will start to call you Wyn......
I can't believe I missed this!!!! I have been sooo looking forward to this!!!

WAHOOOEY....SHEEPIEPLAOOZA

Ok I will calm down..a little..maybe.

It looks like some new faces and some not so new will be there. Wyn, you have to come, it wouldn't be the same without you. Pack the son and gf and bring them along. Don't you think it would be nice if the gf finds out what her MIL is like
I will be there, dh optional and Simon and Garfunkel.

Oh by the way, WAHOOOEY!!!
I am very much looking forward to sheepiepalooza!!! I just need to decide which two doggies I will be bringing. I will have more fun than the dogs, for sure!!

 Last year I brought 4 sheepies with me. 1 was a foster and I met up with her new parents there. Just got a pm from them and they are planning on going to Sheepiepalooza again this year. Will see if I can arrange my schedule to attend.

Does anyone have a brochure from Sheepiepalooza or know what hotels everyone is planning to stay at this year?
Color me bummed..Doreen(Barkley's Mom) came up with a great idea. There is a newer KOA about a mile from Six Flags and they have Kamping Kabins for $57 a night. This sounded great! Just bring a sleeping bag. I called and asked about it and all was going great, even pet friendly. BUT all dogs in the Kabins MUST be kept in a carrier or crate. WHAM, not going to happen here. I have one crate that might fit Simon. The other crate we have is large enough for a great dane(dh thought that Simon, now Gar needed a bigger crate). The thought of lugging two crates, the dogs and their food and our stuff...well that just makes me tired thinking about it. I thought about tenting it but the weather is too unpredictable. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Are we all staying at Motel6 again???

C'mon Wyn, Friday evening won't be the same without you.

I Believe Judi said she would be posting the hotels in this thread shortly.
George
Speaking of Campgrounds, besides the KOA, there is also a Jellystone CG behind the Holiday Inn:

Jellystone Park Campground
Next to Holiday Inn
1-800-861-3020
eurekajellystone.com
50 cabins with kitchen/bath
Pets accepted
10 miles east of Purina Farms

Check with them about the crate situation.

Regarding reservations, you might want to make them soon; there are 3 other events at Purina the same weekend.

Uh, no.

Last year, I believe 4dognight found a LaQuinta for a decent price. (then she backed out on the trip! :-( )Think we'll step up to something like that. :-)

Motel 6 was okay but I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a few amenities, like having a lounge where we could gather in the evening.... :go: :ghug: :go:

Maybe Judi's house??? :lmt:

There's a long list of dog friendly hotels near St. Louis. Did everyone stay at the Motel 6 in Fenton last year? If that's the area, the TownePlace Suites owned by Marriott sounds very nice to me :D

http://www.dogfriendly.com/server/trave ... ouis.shtml
i don't see it listed, but quite a few Westins are dog-friendly. They'll even provide your room with a "westin doggie dream bed"

http://www.westin-hotelsathome.com/dog/dogmain.aspx
It's the 7th one down on the list, but here's direct link to the Marriott owned place.
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/s ... is-fenton/

Westins have the most comfy beds ever!
Here is the data on Pet Friendly Lodging.

Please note the following information:

Some hotels have a limited number of rooms designated as pet-friendly
Some hotels limit the number of pets per room
All hotels have an additional fee for pets - usually per dog per night

All of Saturdays events will be in the downtown St. Louis Area
Sunday will be held at Purina Farms (Gray Summit)

Most of the hotels listed are in Eureka (about 30 minutes west of downtown and 15 minutes east of Purina Farms)

Please verify all information when calling for reservations and keep us posted if you find out any information that is different.

The brochure that will go out at the end of this month will list only the Saturday and Sunday events.

However, there will be a Friday Night Party like last year for our Forum Guests hosted by the St. Louis OES Club members.

Also, several club members have also agreed to a Monday "dogsitting service" at their individual homes for anyone wanting to stay an extra day to catch some sights that do not allow dogs. A small donation will be collected to be given to our designated rescue.

I haven't seen any of them except from the outside.

But I figured that you second-timers would be the best testament as to where to stay. Although I personally think it would be pretty cool if the majority of you all stayed in the same hotel. 8)
Well, get in gear (yeah, with ALL your spare time) and check them out! :D

Definitely we want one with a meeting inside area where we can hang out. It might rain, you know!

I would count on that - we used up all our good luck last year.

Didn't we get rained on at Nationals - just us not the dogs - at the Top 20?

Woohooo - way to go Erica and Josh!!!!!!
I think it would be great if we all stayed in one place also. If anyone has info on any of the places here, SPEAK UP! Good/bad experiences with the chain. Personally I have never(and I tried again and again) had a good experience with Best Western, but am willing to try again. As George said we need to make reservations soon. I am SOOOO EXCITED!!!!
this was just posted on another forum I frequent (ironically, it's a forum that has nothing to do with pets):

http://www.petswelcome.com/
As I recal, many of those attending last year stayed at the Super 8. Some stayed at the Holiday Inn, a nice full service hotel. With the exception of the Diamond Inn, which is about a mile from Purina Farms, the others are all clustered around Six Flags (including the campgrounds).

In a questionaire we circulated last year, we asked whether members were happy with the accommodations, there were no complaints. Maybe some of you from last year may have input here.

George
The best western is 1 mile from purina farms and is lovely That is where I booked before I had to back out because my husband blew his knee out  He is on his own this year!! I am booking this place Who will be with me It has a pool etc. 1 mile from purina farms!!!!!
I just booked. Since I am comming a little distance I am making a week of it the 22 thru the 28 10 a night per dog but JUDY if you put us in as a group we get a discount and it will be 25 for the entire stay!!!!! Pool breakfast 1 mile from purina farms. who is with me?? Looks very nice on the web page
It is now a travel lodge They have a grooming room where you can bath and brush for FREE!! and dog walking areas......................
I am getting soooo excited just reading all the posts...

I can't wait to meet all of you!!!

I am one of the newbies and this is MY first Sheepiepalooza!!!

Heart and Pearl are so excited too...(I can tell, you know.)

I am working on getting the group rate and WAITING for the woman to get back to me. I told her a half hour! Doesn't she know who she is dealing with!!!! Sheesh!

The website is pretty crappy - but here it is:

http://www.thediamondinn.com/

I would wait to make a reservation until I hear back from the hotel. Just for the record "minutes from downtown" is about 35-40 minutes. But it is just off Hwy 44 and just up the road from Purina Farms.
I'm going to see what I can work out thanks to SheepieMommy pointing out that it's not as far as I thought!

I've got a herd of kids and a herd of dogs, so I have to figure out logistics, but I'll see what I can do! :D

We found the Super 8 was fine but after Sheepiepalooza, we realized how many people we didn't get to spend time with in the evenings. It's not easy to get lodging that accepts big, hairy dogs. Had the weather cooperated, we would have been able to gather around the outdoor pool. The lobby was the only indoor commons-area and it was small and very busy.

It would be great to spend as much time visiting as possible, now that many of us have become friends on and off the forum. You guys did such a great job that most of us were exhausted by the time each day's activities were over . :go: :go: :go:

Ditto the above. My room was fine, we just would have liked a place to get together and visit.
Also, we should have made a list to hand out to each other with our room numbers listed. Then we could of at least known what door to knock on to go visit in the evening!
Ok someone tell me what hotel we are choosing to stay at - please remember it needs to be a hotel that allows me up to 4 dogs. The Mafia + foster dog and I will go ahead and make reservations. I am trying to talk my son & his "serious" girlfriend about meeting up with me in St Louis.

P.S. The "serious" girlfriend grew up with sheepies. 8O Uh oh - this could be reallyyyyyyyyyyy serious.

Prepare for another exhausting day on Saturday. We are starting at the Forest Park Boathouse (they are opening early for us :go: ). There you can rent paddle boats and take the dogs out in the boat basin. They only have 25 boats but I figured some people can share if needed.

Image

We are considering making the Sheepie "parade" afterwards in Forest Park - it is beautiful there and lots of people will be out and about to see the dogs. So you might be a little tired after paddling to walk BUT then we are heading to the nearby Central West End where you can have a leisurely lunch at an outdoor cafe. Or take a nap .......

Image

Afterwards you can walk around at a relaxed pace shopping in the stores (many are pet friendly) and walking up and down the residential streets with the gorgeous historic homes.

Image

Then the intention is to head to Soulard for the early evening to romp at the dog park (I am still waiting for a reply on renting it) to be followed by dining and drinking at the outdoor cafes. Margaritas anyone?

Here is the hotel information for the Travel Lodge (formerly Best Western) Diamond Inn that 4dognight was talking about.

I have secured a group rate but I need to sign a contract and so if you book before she gets that to me before tomorrow then it can get confusing. So please give it one more day. The group rate would be $64/night (vs $79) and they would charge a flat $25 dog fee for the stay (vs. $10 night). They limit it to 4 dogs per room.

There is a grooming area and an unfenced walking area. They also have a picnic area where you could gather with the dogs or an indoor lounge area without the dogs. There is a complimentary continental breakfast available each morning.

Here is the contact information:

Diamond Inn (Gray Summit)
I-44 and Hwy. 100
1-800-782-8487
(636) 742-3501

My contact person is Vanessa.
This just sounds like SO much FUN!! :yay: I'm going to have to make the trip this year.
Judi - that all sounds and looks fantastic, but I have one concern: how many OES can fit on a boat and do you need to bring dog lifejackets so you can tow the excess ones behind you?

I suppose it is a four man boat so I would not attempt to put more than 2 people and 3 sheepdogs on one boat. And that would be "trustworthy" sheepdogs that you can expect to stay on the boat. But with Sybil .... :lmt: well I am not sure her behavior can be termed "predictable" :sidestep:

All kidding aside - how many dogs will you be bringing Kristine?

I would offer to ride with you but you would have to have Harry on the boat with Sybil since he will not leave my side the whole weekend.
He is totally a Mama's boy.
Yikes - I really do need a life jacket for Simon. Basset hounds do NOT swim, or even float. They sink like rocks!!!
Luckily, Simon loves boat rides. Hope Chewie doesn't rock the boat.....

The motel info sounds good Judi - thanks! :D

Kristine - any extra family members can join Chewie and I if needed. Of course his 1st choice would be Aunt Bebe...
OMG! I can't contain myself. Can we come TODAY??? I'm so excited that I had difficulty falling asleep last night. So...I count sheepdogs...zzzzzzzzzzzz
Haha - very funny, Judi!

I don't have a final count. I'm thinking five. I will make an appointment to have myself committed upon returning home as I suspect a year in a sanitorium will be necessary to recuperate, though I took five dogs to the nationals last year and survived. Sort of.

Let me think about it, but, Dawn, yes, I was going to ask you if a relative can stay with you in a pinch. It won't be auntie Bebe as she is most likely otherwise occupied. Belle might appreciate a weekend free of terrorists and might enjoy seeing her boy dog as well. I don't let Sybil out of my sight, Che is a whiner and Mace won't be happy till she's gnawed her bro's coat down to bald. Liz, like Harry, is a mama's girl. Mad may or may not join us, depending on if aunt Amy comes or not.

Have no idea how any of them would do on a boat, but I'm an excellent swimmer, so how bad could it be? (Don't answer that! 8O )

We've never travelled for strictly social purposes before. I'm just glad Dawn isn't trying to convince me to try camping!!!

This really does sound like an obscene amount of fun.

Water dog training...like the newfs. Sure, why not? That's probably next on Chewie's schedule, anyway.

Dawn, hint: don't do this with Chew till he's finished and you can shave him down because if he has too much hair he won't necessarily float so well...(in all seriousness, they can get pretty waterlogged)

The algae does a job on their whites, too...<ask his mom, one week before a specialty, me with my grey and green sheepdog   )

Oh that's RIGHT...<snicker>

All the more reason to wish you were coming. Hope you make it to the national at least. A friend of mine is toying with the idea (and he'd only be coming from MI, but it's still a haul). He enjoyed the performance events so much last year (he doesn't do any of the events, but he taped them for the fun of it) and really wants to see herding.

To further entice him to come, I have suggested he can probably finance his trip by taping the performance events again this year and we would probably PAY him not to put any clips online

Speaking of performance I'm waiting to hear if Judi perhaps has any other performance related events scheduled for 'palooza in addition to boat-towing...? 8)

Harry is used to being beaten up by girls. I may have to leave him in Guinness' room with all the naughty girls - he would love it.

I can hear Cindy now to hotel management: "Last time I looked it was only four sheepdogs"

Besides Sybil needs to work off some of Harry's love handles and I am pretty sure that Sybil can put management in it's place.
makes me wonder if the hotel management has any idea what they are REALLY in for? *chuckle*
Woohoo! This will be a party. Calling Grandma tonight to ask if Annie can come stay with her. We can't bring her otherwise noone will have have any fur left on their bodies

I'm sure housekeeping will have some frowns, but the management and other guests will probably love it!
Please keep us updated on the hotel too, we'd like to stay at the hotel where the group is staying.

:D
Hello all, we did call the KOA campground and were going to rent a cabin until we were informed that the dog must be kept in a carrier at "all" times while in the cabin. I thought I misheard the gentlemen on the phone, as I could understand that they would need to be crated if we left them alone but he confirmed that the dog would have to be in the carrier at all times in the cabin. This didn't sound right to me but just wanted everyone to know that is their policy.

Well Chewie may like that... I was planning on bringing his harnesses with. But, more like for show and tell. Chewie is getting too much coat - no swimming for my boy.
But, I did get Simon in for his life jacket - maybe HE will pull the boat!
We tested it out at the rehab pool at the new training center this afternoon. He was not too impressed!

OOPs -Just waiting approval of my pictures, I guess. I loaded them before my therapy dog visit....more later. :D

Yeah, they'll love it when Clyde gets "the crazies" like he does every night at about 11. It usually involves a lot of manic barking, jumping on and off the bed and general obnoxiousness. It's always over in under 3 minutes but it can seem like an eternity...
We'll just have to make sure "Crazy Clyde" is sandwiched in between our group's rooms!

Chewie would love to get the dirt on the relatives...

Here are the poor Simon pictures:

Checking out the pool - ok so far!
Image
(please ignore the hideous picture of me! I didn't want to bring in my bag, so I stuffed all my pockets full... yikes)

Then he realized he was in WATER, and couldn't get his stubby legs up on the side... poor guy. But, he did float and stayed right side up!!

The after picture - Simon the Survivor!

Hey simon, just wanted you to know that you swim better than panda!!
:clappurple: WTG Simon!! :high5: Good job, buddy!! :high5:

Not sure what the wigglebums would do in a pool. They don't mind wading into the water, but they've never really attempted to swim. :?
Way to go, Simon! I couldn't sleep last night as I'm so excited thinking about all the fun we will have! Mom has agreed to take care of Annie Memorial Day weekend :D We will be in St. Louis from Friday to Tuesday :D :D :D
Tammy, are you really going to go?
Yes, I'm really planning to come. I haven't broken this news to Robbie yet. I don't know if he'll be joining me or not. Will James come with you?
Has anyone made reservations yet? Diamond Inn? We want to stay where everyone else is at......
We haven't yet.
I think most of us are waiting on the OK on the group rate from Judi about the Travel Lodge/ Best Western/ Diamond Inn?

Judi or Erica or anyone else there - have you checked this one out in person?? Just curious. It sounds like a nice mix of basic amenities and affordability. Especially when you add in multiple dogs and family members for several in our group.

That is wierd about the KOA campground and the cabins. Stay in a crate the whole time?? I have stayed in MN state park camper cabins, and they are pretty basic and indestructible.
I made reservations but they will honor the group rate after Judy signs the agreement. I made them before all this was decided I wanted to make sure I had a room because there are a lot of events going on that weekend. It is a long trip for me I am breaking it up into two day travel so I still need to book my half way hotels. I can't wait to see what gas prices are by then 8O
I am waiting for Judi to tell us she has the signed contract and then I will call and get my reservations.

And yes it is confirmed, schedule has been rearranged and I am going to be able to attend. The final push was Lucky looking at the picture of Simon in his lifejacket  . Dawn - warn Simon, Lucky will be there worshiping at Simon's little feet.

A co-worker has a malti-poo and a standard poodle and is as dog crazy as we are. She and her husband are going to be in MO on vacation the week prior to Sheepiepalooza and would like to join us on Saturday. She wanted me to make sure it was ok for her to hang out with us since she didn't own a sheepdog.
OF COURSE!!!

Cousin Herc came with me last year, he is an Airedale Terrior. Trust me he sure stood out amongst all of the sheepies, but no one beat him up...
Simon the basset was there and will be this year, as well as Pam and Randy's golden retriever Taylor (RIP). We all love dogs, so I don't see it being a problem! :D
We can always put the other breeds in a grey and white t-shirt, right? ;)

Growing up we had a pool and at one point, 4 sheepdogs at one time. Not only did they all swim, but they even learned to use all our water toys:

and we would take our dogs to the Jersey Shore where they'd also swim in the ocean!
LMAO :D :D :D
That is a great picture!!! LOL
I couldn't wait another minute...I made reservations at the Best Western. The girl I talked to had no idea what I was talking about.."Sheepiepalooza, what's that" so I explained it all about the $69 a night and $25 flat fee for the dogs and she said she put all that in my reservation.

Wyn, YEA YEA YEA, I'm so glad you are coming!!!

Judi, if you dare, what is the count so far??

That would be real handy, and save getting some non-dog loving guests
peeved.
are there a certain number of rooms being held at the "convention rate"? I mean, if I don't act right away, will I lose out?

I'm tryign to get a postiive commitment from Adam
I think we're supposed to wait for Judi to let us know that she's signed the contract. I asked her to start another thread as soon as she's ready for us to start booking.
i have a couple of good friends that are Luna and Tonks' favorite people (aside from Adam and I) that are contemplating adopting a Wiemaraner that is the same age as my girls. I've told them that if they adopt, I'll make it a sheepdog costume for Sheepiepalooza!
I'm not sure I'll be physically able to paddle the boats, but it looks like a blast. I'm hoping there's an extra person or kid that would help Steve paddle, and I could hold Foz :D Here's hoping Foz doesn't jump in and look this again. Judi, any groomers volunteering for dog sitting on Monday? :D

Stacy;

Adam and I might be going, and we might have a couple of dogless freinds with us. If it all works out, we can help!
Please help me; I need some brutally honest opinions here from more experienced Sheepie owners than myself.

I want to come to Sheepiepalooza with my 5 month old puppies Luna and Tonks. However, our "travel season" is about to begin. My partner and I travel quite a bit during the summer months with work, and even though I cut our regular travel schedule in half, its still more than I'm comfortable with, what with the puppies and all.

So; here's the scenario. We will be out of the country for a week in April; the Sheepie girls will be boarded at a pretty nice kennel that has all-day play groups. Then come May we are away again, for another week. We will return on the 21st. We'd need to drive out for Sheepiepalooza on the wee hours of the morning of the 23rd if we are to come. So here's my question:

What is best for my pups? Coming home and settling back into our normal routine? We'd have almost 4 weeks until our next trip, which is only for 4 days. OR would a puppy focused weekend like Sheepiepalooza be good for them? Make them feel like the center of attention? Or will it just confuse the hell out of them if we get home and a day later bundle them into the car for a long cross country drive? Should I plan a quiet weekend at home doting on them, getting back to our regular schedule? HEEEEEEEELP! I really want to go to Sheepiepalooza, but more importantly I want to do right by my girls.

JMHO: By 5 months, and given the fact that the pups have already frequently experienced separation and travelling, they are comfortable with flexible routines and easily adaptable to different surroundings. They are learning what you expect of them and the various environments will give them the opportunity to accept responsibility for their behavior regardless of the circumstances. Everything is a learning (training) experience.

Based on last years experience, the mix of OES of all ages got along like family; there was plenty of play and no fights. Other forum members and club members will give you and the pups plenty of support. I think the trip will be good for them and reinforce bonding (and relieve you of the worry about how they are doing if left at a kennel). They are part of the family, take them with you.
If they are good travellers, I would bring them.
I have a couple who don't travel well, and the trip would be stressful to them. However, Simon and Chewie would live 24/7 in a vehicle, if it meant they were spending time with me!!

We are about in the same boat. We are all (Whole family - including grown kids and their spouses/SO) driving out to daughter Lisa's graduation in NY the week before Sheepiepalooza. All the dogs are staying home (boarded and going to various friends homes) for the week we are gone.
We get home Thursday. Friday morning we are loading up and driving down to St Louis. :D

You will know me by being the one with the flat seat from all that driving!!
Of course they must come to meet Fozzie :D

Well, if they love car rides and they will be with you, I don't see a problem. Dogs adjust just like kids, throw them in and they do great. PLUS...we want to see the pups!!!(and you of course)

I know, but I really think they'll be okay since they'll be with you guys. It sounds like they enjoy a lot of activity. Best to get them accustomed when they're young :D
okay! I sent off my registration, and booked the hotel! We're IN!!!!

Woo HOO!!!!
I am so looking forward to SheepiePalooza!!! This is our first time ever doing something like this and I can hardly wait to meet everyone and their four legged friends!! See you there!!!!

And that's why god created crates! I need to give my guys down time at any event, I don't think its good to overstress any dog. depending on the weather one or the other can be at the hotel, or in the car. Besides siblings need a break from each other once in a while too.

A Sheepie Convoy would ROCK! We are heading out Friday too. If I remember - you are about an hour and a half away - correct? We are in the St Cloud area. I will sweetly ask Winston's Dad tonight what he thinks about leaving early enough to meet you --- he will be the one driving while Winston and I sleep :)

Ummm, no unfortunately it's more like 3 hrs north of us. (You are by St Cloud, right??)
Nance and I are flexible with the start time. We just wanted to get there at a decent time Friday evening. It is about 8-9 hrs from my house, just outside of Mankato.
I would love a convoy . :D
When & Where are we meeting on Friday evening? :? I need to plan an early start time, too, so we can freshen up a bit after the long drive. I think we've got about 12 hours drive time, not factoring in potty breaks. :)
I believe George is hosting us again?
Either way, I need directions. I was a passenger going over there, and blindly following Val and her GPS's lead!

Friday night at George's 4pm til??? (Actually you're welcome anytime, but if you come much earlier you might be put to work)

Directions for those staying at Diamond Inn which is at the junction of I-44 and Hwy 100. Go east on Highway 100 (left turn from the Inn) about 15 miles to Ellisville. You will come to a stop light with a QT gas station on the right and Walgreen's on the left. Make a left turn at the light on to Hutchinson. Proceed 3 blocks to Froesel. Make a left on Froesel 1 block to 1530 - ranch on the left with pine forest in the front. Watch for the Sheepiepalooza sign in front of the house. If parking gets too congested at the house, there is a side street (Vega) on the right just before the house that has plenty of room for additional parking. Bring your appetite with you.

If you are staying at the six flags area. Continue east on I-44 service road to Hwy 109. Go left on 109 about 3 miles to Hwy 100. Turn right on 100 about 3 miles and follow the above directions to Ellisville and the house.

If your coming from some other direction, PM or email me or call me at 636-227-0169 for directions.

Pray for good weather!!!

George
^^^^^

We will be handing out maps at the hotel so you do not need to write down directions if you are staying at the Diamond Inn.

We will be providing food so just bring your sheepie and meet everyone.

I will be sending out more detail as it gets closer.
will the maps be available if we arrive after 4pm? its a 10 hour drive for us, which should be fine, but I don't know if it will be longer with the sheepies in the car...
Hey George,

Can I bring you anything from south Louisiana? Hot sauce, grits, crawfish or maybe a sheepie or two to leave with you for training?
I am sooo excited :excited:
Its a 16 hour trip for us so I doubt we will get in before late friday night.

Ohhhh I love crawfish. Many years ago I was in New Orleans for a convention; stayed with a Jesuit who was good friends with the owner of Antoines. We were invited to their house for dinner one evening -- all the crawfish and soft shelled crabs you could eat!
Does anyone know how many people (more importantly-sheepies) are coming?
I asked Judi and she said her calculator doesn't go that high. You may remember the story about the medieval scholastic philosophers that contemplated how many angels will fit on the head of a pin? Well my modern version is "how many sheepies will fit into a 12000sf lot?"
OMG!!! I just confirmed the rental car (I can't fit 4 adults and 2 sheepies into my Maxima)... it was th last thing I needed to do to be ready for Sheepie Palooza! I'm so excited!!!!!
WHOOO!!! HOOO!!!! Sheepiepalooza....sheepiepalooza...Sheepiepalooza!!!!!!!!

WOOHOO!!
Hey everyone!! I don't know where people are going to be "socializing" at the Hotel on Friday, but I wanted to send off my last wave before the gang and I leave.....I will see you there....

We are leaving tomorrow early evening to get there by Friday afternoon (hopefully).....

For those of you attending the events both saturday and sunday, I look forward to meeting all of you fellow forum members!!

For those of you that are traveling through a few states....be safe!!

Off we go on a 16 1/2 hour journey!!!!

Drive Safe! We leave Friday before dawn for our 11 hour drive!

See everyone soon!!!!
We are leaving around 3 or 4 a.m. Friday morning in order to make it to St Louis by 4 or 5 that evening. So Michelina if you are going up I-55 and you see a mini van (rental vehicle) with 4 sheepies hanging their heads out the windows blow your horn!

HA! We are leaving about the same time! We'll be the rental SUV with 2 sheepies and 4 uprights! Maybe I'll put a sign in one of the back windows! We all should; that way we'll know who we are on the road!!!!
I was thinking of getting one of those white markers that allows you to write on the windows. Sheepiepalooza bound or 4 Sheepies On Board!
I think its a GREAT idea! I'll be working on my sign tomorrow night, after i get our packing done!

SO EXCITED!!! Drive safely! Foz will be going to see the vet tech at 8AM tomorrow (needs ears plucked) and then we're hitting the road. We'll be stopping in Peoria around lunch time and then back on the road. We should be at the hotel around 3 or 4 pm if all goes well.

ugh! off to a rough start and we aren't even on the road!

The cat (obviously jealous that we aren't going to Fat Cat Palooza) pee'd in the bag I wanted to pack. Thankfully it was empty. BUT THEN, Luna, still damp from her bath, decided to rub her face in it. 4 washings later, and her snout still smells like a litter box!

And now Adam's editor needs work from him by first thing Wednesday morning, and he might have to stay home and work through the weekend!!!!
