The last day is my birthday!!! Somebody get their cake pans out and prepare to bake!!!!
Minnesota is almost next door to Illinois! And I've never been to the Nationals. :lmt: I'm sure Dawn will be more than willing to bake you a cake Mandy. HA!!!!! We'll just buy you a piece when we go out to dinner.

LOL - I was thinking more of volunteering LeAnne.....

Yes Mandy, You will have a birthday cake!! :D :D
WooHoo!!!!
Do you like chocolate, Mandy? LeAnne has this really good recipe.... super chocolatey though!! :D

(See, I wasn't totally evil in volunteering her. She must have got the cooking/baking gene from Todd)
Do I like chocolate? What is wrong with you? I totally love chocolate!! Why else would I live 5 minutes from Hershey?
If LeAnne bakes me a cake, I'll let her borrow the shoes!
Ok, that answers that question.
We have the absolute perfect recipe!!!! Totally sinful gooey chocolate filled....better stop now!
:)

Woohoo - even the shoes!!
Please note that the Twin Cities specialty will ALSO be offering obedience and rally trials, so there will be two shots at those events. SE Wisconsin did that with obedience in conjunction with the '01 national and they also had two obedience trials at the Centennial - a very nice touch.

One set of trials may be inside and one outside, though that's not finalized yet. Should that matter to anyone

Dawn, how long did it take you to get to Frankenmuth? I live just over an hour south of there so it will give me some idea how far MN is. I'm sure Jill will be up for the trip with me :)

I have a feeling I won't have a choice if you take both boys, lol.
Holly and Jill -
It took us about 11-12 hours of actual driving. We did it each way in 2 days though.

We went from home to near Manistique in the UP the 1st day, then over the Mackinac Bridge and down the next day. We had to drop off a rescue basset at her new home in WI, and be tourists along the way! Also, LeAnne was in the sleepy, pukey preganancy stages, so we took it easy. This way was closer to 12 hrs of driving.

On the way home we went south around Chicago, and stayed overnight at Kristine's. Then drove up to vet Amy's and let all the dogs play, then drove home later that day. This route is closer to 11 hrs., without the play date detour.
It is 6-7 hrs from our house to Milwaukee.
The show is north of us, but we are more west. So, by highway it really comes out fairly similar.

Dawn
So Maxmm, are we flying or driving? Maybe I can get Frank in a crash course obedience class and we can do rally?

(( Mad Dog, are my expectations too high? ))
I believe we are flying. 9 hours straight last time was about my limit.

Gotcha, plus 4 days in a car is a bit too long...I wonder if it will be cheaper to fly out of Harrisburg than Philly?

I have a few cousins in Minneapolis. I wonder how much room they have?
It's probably cheaper to fly out of Baltimore. (At least that's what I've found so far!) We'll stay at Susanne's house and then go for crabcakes before the flight.

Only if she goes too!! That should be a fun flight! :D

Honey - if you are really serious and find a class in the next few weeks or so, you could have him ready for Novice obedience by then, and not in a crash course kind of way either (OK, you have to actually PRACTICE outside of class, but you get used to it  )

Sybil and I are working on, well, she could probably do novice obed, but there's that little issue of her interesting interpretation of the long down when another sheepdog walks by - she tries to crawl under the ring-gating ("but I never got up, Mom!") So perhaps a national specialty is not the place for her debut OFF-LEAD.

Sure as heck she and Frank both can do pre-novice obedience (it's all on lead) and novice rally, which is also on lead. They're even talking about adding some of the new rally non-regular classes. And there's herding, which, being AHBA, I'm guessing they plan on offering instinct testing. It is going to be a fun filled performance week, for sure. Minnesotan's are the most gracious hosts you can imagine and they have some really great performance people (right, Dawn? )

My plan is to bring a wagon full of wild-children and party all week long. Having hidden behind Belle, I haven't been humiliated in some time now :-) It's time...

Kristine
Maybe Sybil and Chewie should try brace. It would be interesting to see if she could drag him on the down.
When he is down, it's like he has become one with the floor. Those 2 must have the most opposite genes as possible in siblings! (or maybe Chewie modeled himself after Simon??  ) Not many OES have a basset for an obedience roll model.

VerveUp - of course you should show Frank. Go for pre-novice obed and Rally Novice for sure. They were fun last year!

She could. Pulling is a gene they share

Belle always excelled at the stationary exercises - I think it was a relief to her to do something so black and white that she didn't have to think about it. And lord knows grandma Coco isn't going anywhere in a hurry.

Mad never really enjoyed stationary anything either. With her I "discovered" the "dynamic" (as opposed to static) stay. That's my approach with Sybil too. It's necessary for dogs who have to be "doing" as opposed to just "staying". Same net result though. Very useful for agility dogs and can be transferred to obedience -- KB
Sadly it looks like Luca and I will not be available without a lot of craziness for performance events, the way the schedule looks but I'm not ruling it out completely....although I should probably get our cold frozen butts into training mode again... the winter in addition to this whole relocating thing sucks almost all of the energy out of me....ugh. But I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again in September! Lake Elmo is only a 4hr drive from Green Bay I think...which is where I WILL be driving from by then!!!!

Note to all considering a crash course in any performance event...the only crashing sure to take place is dog crashing into handler that or handler crashing into inanimate objects...either way not good
She's alive!!

Yes, I know - there are a lot of conflicts built into the schedule. Bound to be that way when you squeeze in a regional specialty as well. Performance chicks and Che and I will wave at you in passing. I hope to be between having to show anyone in breed by then, so no pressure. If you have time, just dart over to performance and take one of the kids in the ring for me - get your humilation fix that way.

Che will never come close to emulating Uncle Luca's - hm - boundless enthusiams for tunnels  But I'm sure he can come up with his own creative way of embarrassing you

You will be missed.
