Shaving A Sheepie

Hola Everyone.

Is there a "how to shave a sheepdog" guide? If so, could someone direct me toward it. My 15 month old sheepie has become a 15 month old Komondor.
I would like to try shaving him myself.

Thanks for reading.

Actually if you go up to the search near the top of the page and type in the search box for OES.org something like "shave a sheepdog" there are many posts from here on how to and experiences. Don't know if this will help or not:

Oh, Lord. Good luck with that. I tried to do mine once and they both looked like they had be run over with a lawnmower.
Mine does too but once it starts to grow out he looks fine :D
Yeah, it depends on the blade you use. The higher the number the shorter the cut. Don't use anything above 10 and even thn 7 or 5 is better.

If you are patient, you could scissor cut but if the mats go to the skin, that's too dangerous. Maybe shave the close mats, cut the hair longer where possible and even up as best you can.

I love the just shaved look (if it isn't too close). We have lots of rubbies and the sheepies just wiggle up a storm enjoying the new look.

Glacier adores getting shaved. Wish I had known that earlier, I would have started earlier. She just prances around......pretty good for a dog that is at least 11 years old now.
Me to just once 8O next time to the groomers, funny thing I'm a hairstylist, but people sit still when I tell them..... most of them. People/ dogs way different :D
I love shaving Boni!!! :D I had so much fun and the best part is that he couldn't care less how he looks so I don't worry if I don't make him perfect. I left some hair on his butt so he looks as if he had a little bunny tail. This is how he looked in June right after I shaved him.

and by December he looked like this...

I have the Oster A5 2 speed clippers - was recommended by the forum.
When I shave I use a #5 blade all over.
That ways when it grows back all the hair is even. 8)

In the summer I use a #10 because it leaves less hair, so more time between haircuts.

My advice is don't use a 7. I hate them. There the most problematic blade of them all. They clog easy, they cut easy they dull easy... they just aren't worth the trouble for an extra 1/4 an inch. A 5 or 10 is nice though.

You wouldn't belive how many people come in with thier dogs and say they tried to groom them and want us to fix it. It's quite funny. But hey it will save you a ton of time in the long run and it's good bonding time. Good luck.
