Speech on OES

The Rotary(sp) Club meets every Thursday at the restaurant. On Feb 7th they are doing a thing on dogs. The person who is in charge asked if I would be interested in showing Obe and telling about the breed. Just so happens that he is getting groomed on the 4th. I am not sure how much time will be alloted for each person. I think there is going to be 4 people talking about their dogs. I now one other is a lab, and the other two people have little dogs. Not bragging, but I'm sure Obe will steal the show. I have some ideas as to what I should say,but I would like to get ideas from you all as well.

When we do a demo with our therapy dog chapter, Chewie is always one of the favorites.
We each explain a bit of the history of our breed - where from, what is their job or purpose for being developed as a breed, and such. Then we explain unique thinks that make our breed different - the coat change, non-shedding, why no tail, etc. Lastly some personal info about our particular dog - what hobbies they do (herding, carting, compete in rally, dog shows), weird foods they like or anything personal about that dog.

Then lots of visiting and 1:1 where people can be close to the dogs -touch, hug and ask questions.

Also an obedience demo and tricks are included if time allows and the audience is receptive.

It sounds fun and I'm sure Obe will be a hit!
I will be intrested to see how it goes. Be sure to let us know!
Sounds like fun!! I'm sure you will steal the show...or rather Obe will.

I'm debating whether you should mention "counter surfing" as other dog owners don't usually use that terminology with their breeds. :excited:

Good luck to you!

Counter surfing is a basset hound term also. Short legs, but really long bodies!!! I was surprised to hear it associated with OES too. Luckily, my only counter surfer is not my basset or my OES - it is Maggie! (And, she is Todd's dog!! )
Obe is not a counter surfer, "yet" knock on wood. I never leave anything to make him want to attempt counter surfing. I left a cheeseburger the other day on the coffee table and went to use the restroom, and he didn't eat it so... I'm lucky. Maybe he just wasn't hungry??? Yeah right, mention treats and he will do back flips if asked. He did jump up on the handrail (front paws) to get a treat I set up there. No big deal... other than he took down the x- mas lights when he returned to all fours.
Shon you and Obe will do great :D So proud of you two. :D
