I'm so close

My FI wrote from Iraq and said: When I get back (mid Jan time frame), we should plan a trip to Oklahoma so we can look for a house.

All I read was "...look for hardwood floor house w/backyard, so we can try to get an OES."

However, he's just not aware (yet) that he said that.

I'm hoping the 2005 OES calendar I just sent to Iraq as a stocking stuffer will clue him in.

LOL!
What branch is he in?
He's Army (Captain), 1CAV artillery.

The news just said they were extended in Iraq for another 150 days and a few other websites are denying the reports from the Pentagon, so I really have no idea when he's coming home. Dec-March (most likely Jan 9-15) ......sigh.
Will yall be at Fort Sill? My brother is in the Army he is Field Artillery, but not in Iraq, he is stationed in Louisianna. I'll hope for you that he gets home soon as possible and safe.
We just went around Fort Sill just a couple of months ago. We live about an hour and a half outside of there. There is a beautiful "mountain" range....well, to some they look like big hills. LOL There are wonderful caves and trails to explore for rock hunting and such. There is also a place called Medicine park right around in there that has beautiful cobblestone cottages and a natural swimming hole with small waterfalls. A gorgeous area!

I am not sure if our newspaper serves that area or not, but you can check out www.newsok.com. It will have the weather, houses for sale and rent, and lots of other misc. It might just be for the Oklahoma City area though.

I hope he gets home to you soon. Stormi and co.
What a coincidence, when we went out to Oklahoma to pick up my brother from basic training we stayed at a house in Medicine Park. It really is beuatiful in that area. I had never saw a buffalo until then. The hills are gourgeuos too. Did yall go up on Mount Scott, the view is Awesome from there.
yes, we went up mount scott, the kids loved it! I grew up here in and around Oklahoma city for most of my life. My grandparents or parents would go to the Wichita mountains for short day trips, especially during the Fall, when colors are changing.
I have a book on the area that has different places to look for quartz, there are a lot of miner and prospector trails throught there. I can't even begin to list all of the things you can do or find in the different parts of the refuge.
Email when you plan on going again and I can give you some suggestions on places to go.
It sounds like we should plan a sheepie get together down south here for us. I wonder if we have any more southern folk that would enjoy that?
Stormi and co.
I doubt I'll be heading to Oklahoma any time soon. The drive was killer. About 14 hours. Yuck! But my other brother who is going into the Marines, will have to go to school at Fort Sill after Boot Camp, and we may go see him there. The most fun thing out there was feeding the prairie dogs. Albert would have had so much fun chasing after those critters.
A sheepie get together would be great!
this makes me so excited. yes, Ft. Sill and I'm always up for a get-together! Someone has to let me meet their OES' ;)

I appreciate the link to the newspaper there because that will help tremendously.

I was told the houses are cheap in Lawton, so that's good to know. My friend has a 4bdr 2/bth with backyard for $525 a month. I'm not used to those kind of prices.

Thanks to our hardworker administrator for fixing my first post that I accidently made as a guest. :) *hugs*
An OK get together sounds good to me Stormi! LOL
It would be a 22 hour drive for me, but the flight is only about 450 dollars, so that's not bad at all.
And the price of that house mentioned is cheap! Wow!
It sounds beautiful there Stormi, do you have any pics you could send me?
Joaheyo, sounds like sheepie searching time won't be too far off! And it's something you and your fiance can share together. :)
Wow!!! $525/month! Geez, in MN metro, you can't hardly find a single family home for under $200K, it's just killing us! Keep holding out, and keep yourself busy planning that wedding and looking at houses, and he'll be back, well, I can tell you from experience, it feels like forever, but I promise it's wonderful when they get home- and just think, ONLY 2 MONTHS TO GO!!!!! My MP hubby and I are wishing you 2 the best!

Karen :)
LOL, yes cost of living in so different here than it is in other places. My friend in Kansas City was paying almost $600 for a small one bedroom apartment, and I had a 2 bedroom house with a HUGE yard for $370. It was a 1950's house with a one car garage and beautiful hardwood floors, we would still be there, but our Joey boy came along and we needed another bedroom. My dad now rents the home from us.
Different cities and towns are all different as well. We live in a quickly growing town just next to Oklahoma City. When we bought here there wasn't much. We are getting new stores and restauraunts all the time. Which is good, because it is raising our house and property value, but not good, if you are country girl at heart. LOL
Stacey, you know I am going to hold you to that $450 flight. LOL, sure I should have some pics somewhere around here I can send. We will get Dancer, Sky, Jack, and Annabelle at the dog park to get all their energy out and then come play dog beauty shop.
Joahaeyo, have you tried www.realtor.com yet? I don't know if you were looking for renting or buying, but this is a great place to look for homes to buy.
I always see apartment guides around the town if you would like me to send any of those to you. We are also planning another trip to the Wichita mountains, when we go, I will try to get a local Lawton paper that should have homes for the area that are for sale and rent.
You can come and play with Jack and Annabelle anytime you want. They love company. There was another sheepie in our neighborhood, but I don't think they have him anymore. I am not positive, but I haven't seen him in awhile.
Anywho, if you need help finding out something around here, just let me know.
I have a few pics from when we went in my webshots album, though they have people in, you can still see some of the views. http://community.webshots.com/album/164594699ufdlOB
Great pics! thank you :)
In that picture of "Daddy with his Howitzer" All I can think is: "Gee, that's an awfully big trailer for Daddy's blue minivan to pull." ;)
Albert'smommy, those are great pics. Nice looking family!

stormi blew me away with how much her monthly rent was for a 2bedroom. I do hear all the time that military people don't like Ft. Sill b/c unless you like hunting/fishing, there's nothing to do, but I still can't wait to go!! It's not too far from Texas (our family), it will be our first year of marriage (or should we be scared? haha), I love the outdoors, and did I say OES?!

I still don't know whether we're leaving in March or 1st week of May, ...just that we'll be going early to buy a house. We don't want to rent, so your links will be useful stormi. He said he was going to call this weekend, so I'll tell him everything. He already thought "that's my crazy girl" when I said I met a friend in OK already who has OES'. He laughed his head off.

It will be hectic since we're getting married in May in TEXAS. Anyways, I appreciate everyone's warm words. :)

I have looked up every breeder possible that I could find on the internet. When I couldn't find anymore, I kept doing more searches and then more. I'm so depressed that now I only run into the same websites. I'm so addicted to the research that I'm lost now that there are no more sites to read (I've read this one as far back as the beginning ...in almost EVERY FORUM). lol
Iris, I've been meaning to ask you but couldn't find a good opportunity, but what is your picture of? haha I always hurt my eyes trying to figure it out since it's too dark/black for me to see... :)
LOL, that wasn't to rent the 2 bedroom, that was our mortgage. It is usually cheaper to buy here than to rent. We rent that same house out now ourselves.
Good luck on your house search!
Stormi and co.
stormi, your avatar is like having a smiley face over all your posts.

Every time you post, I can't help but think your smiling because of how happy your OES looks.

I hope that made sense. I just mean that I automatically read your posts in a happy tone due to your avatar.
Awwww, thanks! I am glad that Jack makes you smile. He has a charm and he knows how to use it. Annabelle does too.
Thank you, Stormi and co.

Lol!!!
Ha ha! My Avatar is of my British Blue Shorthair girl "Bell" (or "Hell's Bells" as my sister calls her on the infrequent times when she's naughty) I have some cuter (and lighter!) pics of her and my other kitty girl Iris on my digital camera, but I have to find that missing cable before I can get them onto the site. If you want to see a few better pics, there is a post in the pictures section, I thinks it is titled "kitty girls". I don't have any dogs right now, due to living in a small, no dogs allowed apartment. Hopefully, we'll be moving this spring, if we can find an affordable home within decent driving distance from the Twin Cities. :)

Karen :)
Yes, you need to post more pics once you get your camera! :)

Thanks for clearning up what I swore looked like a black block. haha I lightened it up in photoshop, so feel free to use it. Your cat is darling. I love cats and would love to have one more dog and a ragdoll.

awesome pics!!!

Being a Floridian i was shocked when I moved to Minnesota, the cost of living here is sky high!!!!I had a 3bedroom/2bath w/ fireplace corner lot home in an upscale neighborhood for 485.00 a month :D

Moved to Minnesota our 1st place we lived was a 1bedroom 1bath bungalow w/ basement in s.mpls for 500.00  Now I live in a 3bedroom/2bath split level home about 2,000sq ft fenced in yard w/ deck in upscale neighborhood for 1,365 a month. It sure is alot of money considering what I could have in Florida however the pay in Fl. is almost nothing compared to the pay here.

It is funny cuz whenever i see a collie being walked i crank my neck around to see it,i havent seen an OES yet but when and if i do I will be going up to them and telling them how awesome their puppers is :D
Tanya- I did see an OES at the renassaince festival when I went this september... I don't think it was you and Mickey, cause it looked like an adult dog for sure... I was too shy to go and say hi though. I just stared at them across the field for about 15 minutes like a complete goofball.
Looks like we got the May date to move to OK. So look for me then stormi! :)
How wonderful! I know this was something you were hoping for. I am glad everything worked out for you.

I will make sure I get the dogs really dirty, so that you get a full experience of grooming a sheepie! LOL!
Well, if you need any more info on Oklahoma, just great let me know.
Stormi and co.
Awww why can't I move to OK??? LOL
you guys are great. ((hugs))
