gentle leaders and Blue help!!!!

Well, Sami does great on the gentle leader 0 pulling my son can even walk her. BUT Blue on the other hand I think he turns into a jack rabbit. He is everywhere with it. Last nite once again we tried, we had the leader on him and a harness.... started with the harness changed over to the leader well my god.... last all of 1 minutes he was everywhere, switched it back he is fine but they still want to pull not as bad as Sami... with Sami on her leader blue walks right beside her. We leave the leader on at home he is ok.... but when we hook him to a leash  anyone else had this problem and what can I do ... or is he one of those that will never wear one. He is only 6 months old... Sami at this age we were in the bushes(no leashes)... not now the coyotes are to bad a the moment, any hints will be helpfull.

If he's walking okay on the harness at this point, I'd just continue it and come back to the leader later on when he's a little more mature. :?
he does some pulling but he is to busy walking left to right, front to back, stops to make sure everyone is together, and of course wants to stop and smell all the pee stops, I do fine is does ok if we get him to the left of Sami, but then he walks on a slant to the right pushing into Sami and walking us off the walkway  but he does not pull when we have him there. Last nite our podle got in the middle for what ever reason that is were she wanted to walk and it looked like she had body quards. I do hope when he get older he can use this I really like to no pull. Or have Blue learn to walk besdie sami without all the zig zagging

EJ
I walk the wigglebums like this, one on either side of me, so they don't distract each other and they don't pull me. Would this work for Sami & Blue?

We have tryed Blue wants to be RIGHT beside Sami there is NO space between them, when he is there he is great, I think he is getting very excited for his walks and when he calms down will be better and I have yet to walk them alone. I swear this dog is smiling when he gets to go out the front door.. either walks or van rides. and he is hyper at first and does calm done thank god for stopping to have a smell... half way through the walk is much better.
I know it would be more time, but you really need to start walking each of them seperately. Seeing they are young, they need to learn to walk without the other one there. If you don't, this can lead to huge behavioral problems when you need or want to do something with just one of them. If they were 2 adults, it wouldn't be as big of an issue.

Plus, you can incorporate training into the walks, and that needs to be done on a one:one basis.
Nice work Tammy, that's exactly how I walk my boys too! :D

Ej, for you I have bad news. Blue will never walk nice if there is no structure in your walks. It seems they can walk and do whatever they want to and if you let them they will have their own rules and you won't like them.

Try to walk them like Tammy and please don't let him sniff around! That should be a reward for walking nice on the leash without pulling.

Dogs are really interesting creatures; if he starts to pull you turn around and start walking back where you were coming from. They HATE walking back! Try to imagine how they think - with their nose. They pull because they get rewarded.

When Blue sees a tree - that is full of pee, smells wonderful! Just like reading the local news. ;) - he pulls you there so he can "Read the news" and then write his own little article. As soon as he gets there to smell or "read" he is being rewarded.

So, next time when he starts to pull you to a tree, turn around and walk away. He will probably try to jump on you and do anything in his power to stop you! Probably yelling "Hey, you crazy human you are going the WRONG WAY!!!!!" You just carry on walking.

You can try this with him alone and then add another dog. You can try to walk him with your poodle and see how he acts then.

This is because they established their walking rules and this is what you need to do with them too. They can't just walk where ever they want to. You are their leader so you tell them how and where to go.
that is interesting, Dave was talking about taking just one out Sami is ok this way because we have done this before. Our walk are on short leashes and again Sami is doing very good. Thinking of leaving the poodle at home just so we can work with the two. Blue really has not been out to much on walks do to the cold weather(I'm the suck ) so it is very new to him when we started walking him he kept looking at the van wondering what the heck we were doing, now he has fiqured it out and gets overly excited and he did do better tonite. Last week they really did not stop to "Smell" but the last 2 nites alot, we actually walked a different way this time, the street we did go on before does have lots of dogs. I had Sami on the leader today it is a nice walk. I was ahead of Dave and Blue so Dave did more of the stop, wait working on the pulling. He does not pull as hard as Sami, but she does want to be first. We will have to walk Blue alone next to see how that goes, he may be happy, but Sami will not be  Oh ya we also walked them a little later the usual I was home a little longer they get a little crazy when I first get up stairs from working that may have helped.

This says it all. :D This is new to him so you need to teach him just as you taught Sami how to walk on leash properly. And it seems you did a great job with Sami.

As much as dogs like routines don't forget that they love to explore.

Before you take him for a walk make sure you don't ask them to if they want to go, just calmly start getting them ready. If you don't make a big deal out of it he will learn to stay calm.

I'm getting confused here. So is Sami good on the leash or not?
I wish I had pictures of my walking Abby, Mandy and Reuben.
The trick to walking all three of them was to put the most experienced/best behaved dog on the outside, the second best in the middle and the newbie on the inside next to me.
This resulted in the experinced dogs slightly pushing/keeping the newbie next to me in a great heel position.
The downside was we couldn't fit on the sidewalks, so we walked in our neighborhood streets. Traffic wasn't an issue and we never walked after dark (that was the time for separate walks on the sidewalks).
They didn't pull, they didn't stop and smell the roses, and I really didn't need the leashes once we started walking.
Sami is great with the gentle leader... pulls on other collars, not bad .... but I want loose leash when I walk and I get that with the leader. Sami like to be first as does my poodle so I think that is where the pulling is coming from, Blue does not seem to mind be back but he is keeping an eye on everyone making sure no is is left behind, he does not like it when I am behind them  So either I am in front with Sami or beside Dave and the 2 dogs together, which at the moment I have stopped.
