![]() But anyway ![]() ![]() I really want an old Cape Codish , nautical, seaboard kind of look. Living in Ohio, we don't get too much exposure to that feel, so anyone with any ideas-- bring 'em on! We have overstuffed camel furniture, and blue and camel tweed carpet that has to stay. The tones are subtle, and drab... I also have an old creamy white painted cabinet that I would like to use. It has a light pine top, and an area for dishes or glassware. I also have quilt racks and some pieces I could paint. I want to avoid stripping at all costs. ![]() There is plenty of wall space, and the TV is built in under the stairs, so floor space is plentiful as well. We have a black cast iron stove that I am afraid will look out of place, but it has to stay too. What kind of things / colors should I bring in for the real cozy Eastern Seaboard look??? We can start with a fresh palette for the walls. Woodwork is medium oak. I could paint the woodwork if I have to- but- that will be a fight I am sure. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I love that look too!! I suggest you to look through LL Bean Home catalog for some color scheming ideas. I also love the Pottery Barn home book- some of their rooms have a "nautical" look without looking too literal. |

i'm a great lover of blue i feel it does not have to make a room feel cold if you use the right soft furnishings.
i the uk i have a new england style to my kitchen with blues oh how i loved that color. i'm stuck with greens at the mo. (not a fav) but the carpet goes all throught he house and as we are looking to sell it i can't be bothered to change it so i worked with it. can you sew? maybe some throw pillows a few quilted ones. a couple of plain ones a coulpe with some nautical knots on as the closings. this the sort of project i love. i would paint the walls a suttle shade of blue (be careful it can look grey if you don't get the right one) and use whites, deeper blue and the tan/camel color as your accents. you could even throw in some red in the form of flags on your soft furnishings if there are any windows light blinds with a draping of fabric maybe a striped one with all the colors in held back with large knoted tie backs .(rope is easily found and you could make then yourself) that way i don't think you will have to change any of your furniture just place them well get a few canvases for the walls (or even paint them your self) and a few themed bits and pieces for your selves and your all set. sorry for the ramble hope any of the ideas help zoe and einy |
A soft sea spray blue with white half wall wainscotting. Can't get more "cape cod" than that. If you don't want to spend the $'s on wainscotting, use a chair rail, painting a darker color on the bottom. If you want to get crazy, install crown molding.
Can't wait to do this in my master bath. |
that what i had in my kitchem white on the bottom panneling and a blue call "cloudless' on the top i hd some gingham accents and pale blue acessories it was wonderful even if it never got finish
as soon as i get the next house i'm recreating it in my kitchen zoe and einy |
