Druby's Neutered

Druby was neutered today and is home with the "lampshade" attached to his collar. If I didn't feel sorry for him, it would be funny. He can't judge distance at all and continually gets it hooked on furniture, etc... If he would hold his head up, at least it wouldn't have to get hooked on the carpet . It took him forever to get the courage to go ahead and lay his head down.

I don't think he would have ever gone to urinate if his collar and the "shade" had not come off as I was trying to show him "his" stump so that he could come back in the house. He must have been holding it it since this AM. The vet removed extra skin so the surgery cost extra $30.

He doesn't really seem sore and he can do whatever he wants with the lampshade. He wears the cone a week and get the stitches out Jan. 10.

Poor Druby having to wear a cone! I hope he's feeling better really soon.
The only dog that I ever had that had to wear a cone was my German Shepherd, due to chewing his hot spots. He broke 3 cones in three days by trying to fit through areas that he couldn't with the cone.
I finally gave up with it, it was getting expensive replacing them and he was just miserable.
None of my dogs ever seemed affected at all by neutering after their surgeries....except being a bit dopey the first night. They were running, jumping etc... so much for keeping them calm.
Here's to fast healing for Druby!!! You can take the cone off to take him off. I always did. I would also take it off for a little while everyday (while supervised) just because I don't think it's comfortable.
Poor Druby! 8O

Jessica our Jack Russel had to wear a cone after damaging her tail, she was about a year old and very small, she couldn't keep the thing up sufficiently to clear the ground and kept scooping up the soft earth in front of her - either that or coming to an abrupt stop on rough ground. After a day we took it off and only put it back on when we could not supervise her 100%. I am sure I have a photo somewhere..
Best wishes for a quick recovery for Druby!
I hope he heals quickly ........I know there is a big size differance but when our Westie Boy was Castrated we put him in a pair of baby pants to wear when we were there to supervise , it stopped him licking the stitches and wasn't as traumatic as the lampshade .......we just took them off when he needed to go ! :D
