My Good Deed - Lost Dog Found Home

Late Xmas day, we headed out to my inlaws house in the western suburbs of Chicago. We were only there for about 1/2 hour when my inlaws' Cocker Spaniel storms the patio door. There outside checking us out is a cute large mix dog of sorts. He trots off, I put my shoes on and run outside. This doggie came right up to me and gave me a kiss, but he didn't have any tags on :(

Steve and I followed the dog down the street and rang several doorbells. Noone knew who he was. I got the dog to follow me back to our car. I opened the car door and this guy jumped right on in as if he belonged with me 8O I drove around the neighborhood without any identification on me and this sweet doggie's head hanging out my windows just enjoying the breeze and this little car trip. I couldn't seem to find anyone wandering around looking for their dog. I encountered several very nice people and even met Steve's 6th grade teacher. Oh gosh, what would I do.

I drove back to inlaws house. There's no way my MIL would allow this dog to be in her home and they don't have a fence. I went in the house to get some treats and water and she said, "Just leave the dog, he will be fine. There are lakes for him to get a drink." 8O   While, I was out with the dog, she apparently was spazing out that her day wasn't going according to planned. However, she did help us locate a bigger collar in the home so Steve could hook the dog up outside. Steve also called the non-emergency number to report that we had a lost dog.

While all this was going on, I also called my Mom to tell her what was going on. I needed some support and knew she'd give it to me. My Mom used to pick up strays when I was a kid hoping they would play with our sheepdog. It was obvious to me that this was someone's pet that had gotten out of his home and I was responsible for him at this time.

So, we had dinner with a lost dog outside in the backyard. MIL kept saying stop worrying about him  He didn't even bark out there. I gave him some food and water. Then, the call came in :D Someone who had just moved back to the neighborhood had called to report their dog missing!!!!! It was the owner! They literally had moved back in within the past couple days and couldn't locate his collar and tags right away. He previously had a contraption for an underground fence in his old home. Also he has epilepsy and had an episode the day before. Thank goodness he didn't have another episode with us. Yea, Jackson went back home to his family for Christmas!! :D Phew!

Wow, that is awesome! What a great story!
:clappurple: Good work, Detective Stacy! You sure made one family's Christmas very happy!
Good work Stacy and Steve!! That is wonderful - I bet his family was just sick with worry.

And your story makes me glad I was raised in a dog loving family - and married into one too!! 8O

Well, Annie turned Steve into a dog lover, but he still isn't like me. His parents have 1 cat and 1 dog. My FIL takes care of the pets as my MIL doesn't lift a finger for them. She's always talking about getting rid of Cubby like he's disposable. Poor guy is about 8 years old and is the sweetest calmest Cocker I've ever met. Makes me sad :( I don't quite understand how she says she loves all G-d's creatures when it is quite obvious that she doesn't. Here I am knowing what I'm doing is right, and there she is criticizing me. She was snapping at us for taking care of this lost dog and the next thing I know she is praying for him before we eat dinner. So sick of her hypocritical ways...I will stop now or I could go on forever. I'm just happy with myself for doing a good thing and so happy that Jackson went home. He was obviously well taken care of. He even shook paws with me, didn't snap while eating, kisses...Mom was already planning that he was coming home with me and was figuring out how it would work. She knew there was no way I'd be leaving him behind at a shelter.
What an angel you are for helping him and I think Jackson must have sensed that he would find help with you. You did what we all hope someone would do if one of our furkids got lost - thanks for stepping up and helping out Jackson and his people. I'm sure you made their holidays bright.

:high5: What a nice Cinderella story.
I am very happy that you got the Jackson dog safely back home. :D :D
Stacy that is so nice! I love to find dogs and see them and their owners reunite! I think it's so amazing to see how much they love each other and how much the owners were worried about their dogs. I had a family who offered us $500 reward but I couldn't take it. I think seeing happy tears in their eyes and dogs jumping up on them licking their faces is priceless.

Oh, Stacy you are bringing back memories... but all had happy endings. :D
Thank you Stacy, for getting Jackson back to his owners!!!
You did a wonderful thing.
WOW!! Stacy...

because of your Jackson and his family were reunited and had alot to be thankful for on Christmas...

Just thinking of one of my furkids lost on Christmas, brings a tear to my eye...thank God you were there to help!!!!

Special Christmas blessings on you for being so kind.............
Way to go Stacy . :clappurple:

I love a good story and especially on such a special day ,'Christmas' . :D

She is not a very nice woman, but she thinks she is
You may not look like Santa, but you made a very good one.
Oh my, can you imagine what would have happened if Jackson had a seizure? You would have gone into even higher anxiety, your MIL would have freaked out!! But you had calm vibes, kept Jackson calm (and well fed, took him for a ride (!), he had a great day

Bless you for caring and doing something! Shame on owners for not taking extreme precautions with new house and dog prone to seizures. No comment on MIL..........
Bravo Stacy! You did the right thing. :P Your MIL should be ashamed of herself.
Great Job, and dispite the interference you had, Jackson, I'm sure made your Christmas even more memorable, and you reunited a family. ( BTW: do we have the same MIL? )

You are now the second person who thinks we may share a MIL. Our MILs actually live one town away from one another. I wonder if they'd get along
:D Sorry to shift the emphasis, but my DIL sounds a lot like your MIL!
