How much butter

have you used for baking so far? I was shocked at the amount I used just last night 8O
Fudge-2 sticks
Carrot cake/cream cheese frosting-2.5 sticks
Sticky buns-2 sticks
Blueberry sour cream muffins-1 stick
Danish raspberry ribbons-4 sticks
3 6" chocolate cakes-3.5 sticks
Chocolate/peppermint cookies-2 sticks

I started out with Horizon organic but at $6.79 a pound it got too pricey so I switched to LOL. Yikes, maybe I should buy a cow and make my own :D

So far with cooking and baking --- 12 pounds. And I'm still goin...
Go to Sams - $1.79/lb. Fine for baking.
I've probably used the same amount as you bestdogs... and funny you made this post b/c I had totally noticed the amount I had been going through yesterday. When it comes to baking, I'm very particular and will only use one kind and brand, so it makes it hard to find during the Christmas season. The store was out of vanilla, semi-sweet chocolate, baking soda, original french onions for green bean casserole, and onion powder when we went! 8O
Well, I bet I have used the most. In the last 3 weeks I have
bought at least 12 pounds of butter, and I have use all but
3 sticks! Between the cookies I have made for everyone and
the meals and other goodies I have given, it's a lot of butter.
I did happen to get most of it on sale, thank goodness.
Funny how the butter seems to be more in quantity than any
other ingredient I have been using though. I did use about
one and a half 5lb sugar bags too.

Speaking of butter, one of my pet peeves is taking the paper
wrapper off the butter sticks. I don't know why that bugs me, but
I hate it. When the butter is cold I always tear it, and when it's
soft it's just a dang mess!

DITTO!!! ^^^

I hate unwrapping them too.
Wow. That's a lot of butter. If I use 2 sticks in a year it's a big year for me!
Keep in mind though I 've probably done a dozen or more
batches of cookies. Not to mention peanut brittle,
a couple cakes, pies and so on.

My Mom was a good SOUTHERN GIRL, she always said no recipe was complete without a sitck of "butta"
the cows of the world thank you! Actually I'm not baking this year...no I did do one batch of poinsettia cookies and that's it!! Hubby did his sugar cookies.....so there was a dab there. Maybe two pounds this whole season 8O Wow! That's unusual.

Poinsettia cookies:

Basic sugar cookie recipe but add red food coloring. While you are at it, put sugar into a ZipLock big bag and add red food coloring and shake to make red sugar.

OK, take a dollop of dough, roll into ball, drop into red sugar and shake. Put onto cookie sheet, score the top 5 times and carefully pull back the "petals". Put a yellow M&M in the middle and bake. (Eat all the other colored M&Ms while you work on this)

Same here. And that's with sharing the butter with guests who come over!

Oh, and for some weird reason, I like unwrapping the butter. I think it's fun. I don't like to eat the butter or use it in recipes, but I like to remove the wrapper!

Exactly. When I do use butter, it's usually in things that I'm sharing with other people. If it's for me, I always use I Can't Believe it's not Butter spray or skip the butter entirely. The taste of the butter doesn't bother me as much as how I feel after I eat it. It feels like lead in my stomach!
I'm glad you mentioned I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray--I was too scared that people would hate me! I love the stuff. And I agree. I just don't like the butter/lead feeling...

Everyone makes fun of me for my insane use of the spray, lol. I'll put it in or on anything. Whenever James hears me spraying anything (cleaning products, hair spray), he'll yell out "What are you buttering?" He's simply hilarious.

When James and I first met, he told me later that I had a crazy person's refrigerator. I hadn't been to the store in weeks so all that was in the whole thing was a jar of pickles, 3 gallons of ice cream and 6 bottles of ICBINB spray (I had a bought a bunch when it was on sale). Now I never have more than 3.

Hey--we always have at least 2 on hand. Of course you need to buy it on sale!

Oh, and when my mom came to town a few days ago, the condiments definitely outnumbered the real food in my fridge...
That's funny, Jill! I never have much real food in my fridge either. Robbie told me the other day if we had a storm and got stuck at home, I'd starve.

I only used a single pound of butter, but I didn't do much baking this year. But, every good southern girl knows that butter goes in everything.
