Holiday observation, not complaint

I work in the car business. Every year we get tons of stuff from vendors, customers, banks, insurance compies. We get lunches brought in, candy, wine, a couple years ago our insurance broker sent me live lobsters! We used to get all sorts of things.

But this year is very different. We've received very few gifts. And the ones we've gotten are pretty skimpy compared to the past.

This is fine with me, I was dreading all the delicious food being brought it, but I was wondering if this is tread across the country.

Was your (business) haul much less than usual?

It was the insurance company that (at the time) did all of the dealerships business insurance, and inventory insurance. It was the coolest business holiday gift I'd ever gotten! But! They came in a styroform container, that I put on the kitchen counter, and you could hear the littles guys scratching in there! EEK! It was very freaky, and it was driving our cats crazy! But...mmmmmmmmmm......after they were cooked, it was marvelous! Geez, I miss that agent!
We never get any stuff like that - not allowed at the hospital. They even cracked down on free pens from the drug reps several years ago.

The doctors ususlly get a box of fruit for us in our breakroom - that's about it.
My Husband Being a home builder normally get lots of goodies from all the subcontractors he uses, this year if they did give something it was very little compared to the last 2 years.

For example one sub gave him a $100 gift card to a restaurant called 'Stony Rivers' last year (very expensive place).
This year they gave him a box of chocolate .....

(I didn't mind though ..I like the chocolate better anyway...lol) :D

yep--- it has been a really skimpy year! No Cheryl's cookies- no Godiva chocolate - no fruit / nuts- Nothin'
I know I scaled down what I am giving to clients this year. I'm not sure why I am feeling this way but I am. The ones that spend over $1,000 with me each year get at least a box of candy. If they spend over $10,000 I send a giant gift basket. Am I being cheap? I know it's not reciprocal with my vendors so I kind of feel justified.

On the flip side, I've gotten some nice gifts from clients over the years. This toy company once gave me 2 front row tix to see "Rent" on Broadway and 2 nights stay at "W" hotel. That was so very nice of them, but I spent many "all nighters" to get things done for them.
